CAMPUS RESEARCH DAY ANNOUNCES RESEARCH SCHOLARSHIP COMPETITION Deadline for to participate in the competition is February 15, 2019. Campus Research Day has been a long-standing tradition on Southern’s campus. The event began over a decade ago when the School of Nursing set aside a day to showcase student research within its department. After the event grew to encompass nearly every academic department on campus, McKee Library took on the massive task of organizing and coordinating the event. Katie McGrath serves as Campus Research Day Chair, and Andrew Cuevas serves as executive assistant. Format Changes This year, Campus Research Day is taking on a new form. The event, coming Thursday, April 11, 2019, will now feature a research competition, with scholarship money awarded to the winners. The overall winner will be awarded $1000 in scholarship money, each of the three category winners will receive $500, and the winner of the poster session will receive $100. The competition will take place in the morning, with winners announced on social media by 5:00 pm. The winners will be recognized and receive their prizes at the awards convocation on April 25, 2019. In addition, the event is moving to a “present only with professor approval”
model. This means that professors are on the lookout for high quality papers and will recommend these for inclusion in Campus Research Day. All students who get professor approval will be included in the program, provided they register by the deadline, February 15, 2019. Convocation Credit Convocation credit will be awarded for attendance at any one of the oral presentation sessions, as well as for attendance at the 11:00 am Origins Convocation, to be held in the church sanctuary. At this convocation, Professor Marcus Ross will discuss his experience as director of creation studies at Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia.
