MEMORIAL DRIVE
Highways act as physical barriers, and in the case of downtown Atlanta, they divided neighborhoods and disrupted the traditional street grid. This led to changes in the layout of the downtown area by isolating pockets of development and altering the pedestrian experience. While the introduction of highways had both positive and negative effects, the subsequent development of commercial, cultural, and transportational institutions played a crucial role in positioning Atlanta as a global city.
