People. Purpose. Place.

In 2022 there were 35 grants totaling $775,065 • Since The Foundation’s inception

All Faith’s Pantry is a nonprofit organization dedicated to delivering groceries to low-income seniors with mobility issues at no cost to the recipients. All Faith’s Pantry prides itself on being volunteer run; almost 100 volunteers unload a truck, pack bags, and deliver the groceries directly to the seniors’ homes. The organization provides a three-day supply of non-perishables to around 400 households per month.

All Faith’s Pantry is a partner agency of the Cleveland Food Bank, who they receive food from. The organization also receives support in the form of grants from The McGregor Foundation, which helps purchase items the Cleveland Food Bank doesn’t supply, such as cleaning products, flashlights, first aid kits, and paper products. In 2022, All Faith’s Pantry received a $15,000 grant from The McGregor Foundation to assist in paying the overall operating budget.

Asian Services in Action Inc. (ASIA) serves the Asian American/Pacific Islander (AAPI) community by providing comprehensive wrap-around services. This organization aims to provide quality, culturally, and linguistically appropriate information, health, and social services in Northeast Ohio. ASIA aligns with McGregor’s mission because they believe seniors need supportive and social environments where they are assisted while leading fulfilled and meaningful lives. In 2022, ASIA received a $20,000 grant from The McGregor Foundation to help support their mental health programs.

The Community Partnership on Aging (CPA) is a collaborative consortium of six cities: Lyndhurst, South Euclid, Richmond Heights, Mayfield Heights, Mayfield Village and Highland Heights. It offers a wide range of services to older adults such as social work, food distribution, and transportation. These services help seniors become more independent in their homes as their needs change. The grant of $24,600 from The McGregor Foundation helped to create information material, distribute products used in the cooking classes, and hire personnel for the 360 Nutrition classes.

The East Cleveland Public Library offers a variety of programs and resources for all ages, which include but aren’t limited to the following: notary and passport services, access to books, computers, and cultural classes. It opened in 1916 with the long-term vision to “cultivate and embolden” the literacy of patrons and community members alike. In 2021, the library was given a $20,000 grant from The McGregor Foundation, and part of these funds paid for the NorthStar literacy software training, which contains literacy assessment tests, as well as supplemental videos that teach basic computer and software skills.

Internships

The McGregor Summer Internship Program provides college students exposure to the many facets of aging services and the multitude of careers that support the delivery of care to older adults, from health administration to marketing, from social work to human resources, and everything in between.

Throughout summer 2022, McGregor employed four interns to learn, explore their areas of interest, and bring new ideas to the table within their respective teams.

Funded by the McGregor Foundation, our interns have developed and executed tasks and projects critical to dayto-day operations, ensuring the safety and well-being of McGregor’s residents and participants. They also promoted and celebrated the many contributions of our staff, which aligns with McGregor’s mission of Supporting Seniors.

Roshani Heer –Health Administration Intern

Roshani assisted our Executive Director as our Health Administration Intern this summer.

Roshani is a Junior at Cleveland State University where she studies Health Sciences and Healthcare Management. After graduation, Roshani plans on working on the nonclinical side of healthcare with the goal of eventually becoming an Administrator.

I was able to gain hands-on experience and work with different departments to see what I am passionate about, and I was able to see how crucial the administrative side is to effective healthcare. This internship has shown me that the business side is just as important as the patient care side.”

Karen Sanders – Human Resources Intern

Karen assisted our Human Resources Director as our Human Resources Intern this summer.

Karen recently graduated from Indiana Wesleyan University with a Master’s Degree in Human Resources. Following her internship at McGregor, Karen plans on furthering her education and joining an HR team at an organization where she can inspire and motivate others.

This internship helped me to gain valuable handson work experience which I will be able to use in my future career. Through observing the day-today duties of a Human Resource Generalist and Director, this internship has prepared me to enter the workforce with confidence that I can get the job done.”

Grace Meyer – Marketing & Communications Intern

Grace assisted our Chief Marketing Officer and our Director of Philanthropy as one of our Marketing & Communications Interns this summer.

As a rising senior at Elon University, Grace studies Strategic Communications and Psychology. Following graduation, Grace plans on working in the communications industry, ideally at a nonprofit organization.

My internship at McGregor has given me a network of individuals that I can continue to reach out to in the future for guidance. Also, having diverse experiences has helped me to explore my strengths that will be valuable to know when applying for my next job.”

Ryan Eisenhuth – Marketing and Communications Intern

Ryan assisted our Chief Marketing Officer and our Director of Philanthropy as one of our Marketing & Communications Interns this summer.

As a rising senior at Geneva College, Ryan studies Integrated Media Production and Public Relations. Following graduation, Ryan plans to further his education and begin a career in marketing or public relations.

“By working so closely with the marketing team at McGregor on a variety of projects, I have not only learned how to complete the tasks of a marketer, but how to think like a marketer. No matter where I end up, the lessons I have learned at McGregor have prepared me for a meaningful and impactful career in marketing and communication.”

Over a period of five months, our Chief Marketing Officer worked with stakeholders to create a messaging platform for our residential areas to clarify messaging that amplifies trust, consistency of ownership and “living” the best life possible –all of which are critical touch points in decision-making. From their experiences, they shared that personal interaction, knowing our customer and their family, and having a comprehensive group of resources contributed to insights for our focus group. From this, the collective team crafted brand mission and vision, key messaging, audience profile, and brand story and voice. This combined with other Marketing initiatives, which help families and decision-makers, has led to significant improvement in traffic to McGregor Assisted & Independent Living services.

McGregor Helps Advocate for PACE Expansion in 2023

Updated news…..as of December 15

We are pleased to report that the Ohio Senate passed the PACE expansion language with the full $50 million federal ARPA appropriation, followed by Ohio House concurrence on the language. The next and final step will be for Governor DeWine to sign the bill. McGregor worked with ten providers to expand PACE to 3,000 seniors is Ohio, 80% of whom will have access to PACE.

Our PACE language was folded into a broader package of items in Substitute House Bill 45. Amazingly, this was literally the very last bill of the entire General Assembly before they adjourned for the year. Rep. Bill Roemer and Sen. Matt Dolan, among others, proved to be excellent champions for our efforts and were instrumental in this language passing. The PACE programs will be launched in Lorain, Toledo, Dayton, Cincinnati, Columbus, and Akron by the end of 2024.

Your Goal. Our Priority!

COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT FOR PACE

Here is where McGregor stands out. We are the only senior living community in Ohio that is in partnership with PACE which can assist qualifying residents with healthcare finances when they need it.

PACE, which allows nursing home-eligible individuals to instead receive care while living at home, is currently only available in one county in Ohio — Cuyahoga County. Program advocates are seeking legislation to require the Ohio

Department of Aging (ODA) to expand PACE into Franklin, Hamilton, Montgomery, Lorain, Lucas, and Summit counties. McGregor PACE in Cleveland is currently the only provider of such services in the state of Ohio. According to statistics provided by the Expand PACE Ohio Coalition, only 16.2 percent of the state’s PACE eligible population lives within the service area. The coalition is made up of care providers that cover a total of 110,000 Ohio seniors, as well as state and federal advocates of the program.

A COMPELLING CASE FOR PACE IN LORAIN COUNTY

Local leaders in the aging network of Lorain County would welcome and support a PACE expansion into Lorain County. Lauren Ksiazek, Director of the Lorain County Office on Aging, says she “would be over the moon” if the PACE program could come to Lorain County. Adding “I love the PACE model”. She has visited the McGregor PACE program in Cuyahoga County and talked with its leaders and staff.

Many older adults have concerns about accessing services to support them as they age, including those that live in Lorain County. Over half of residents indicate they do not want to be placed in a long-term care facility and more than a third worry that people will not think they can take care of themselves. Just under thirty percent are worried about losing control of their lives. All of these concerns speak to the worries and anxieties that many feel as their health and mobility decline and are unsure of how their care will be coordinated. The very design of PACE eases those anxieties through the patient centered care coordination teams.

Lorain County is well suited for an expansion of the PACE program

Currently, over a quarter of the residents, approximately 76,000 individuals, are aged 60 and older and that number is expected to grow by twenty percent over the next five years. Lorain County Office on Aging conducted a needs assessment in 2021 to gain a better understanding of the needs and desires of those 76,000 older adults. The needs assessment utilized both secondary data from sources including the U.S. Census Bureau’s American Community Survey and primary sources including a randomized survey and focus groups. The needs assessment results indicate both a strong desire of older adults to stay within the county as they age and a high need for additional aging services, particularly those that serve the dual eligible population. In the randomized survey, eighty percent of residents indicated that it is important for them to remain in the county even if they did not remain in their current homes.

– John C. Maxwell

Over the last several months, we can hear the sounds of progress from our open windows at McGregor! It has been exciting to watch as the construction crews work diligently to get the roof on our new affordable independent living building before a chill is in the air. Growth of our organization is about being progressive and adding new life to our campus! We are excited to share that the building should be open by July 2023. “It is a wonderful sight to see the building taking shape,” shared Ann Conn, CEO, McGregor.

November 3rd ~ With more than 120 guests in attendance, we hosted a community open house for our neighbors and colleagues to capture a sneak peek of the newly renovated market rate apartments. The sentiment shared was that it’s a remarkable value!
