lthough it’s deep into winter, Sydney always warms up in mid-August for Sydney Indesign. Now in its 12th year, the unique showroom-based format is a comprehensive creative festival where you can get all the design inspiration you’ll need for the next year. Not only do visitors get to see the latest products and brands, but to do so in the charismatic environments of the designer showrooms, rather than a standard exhibition hall. A fleet of free hop-on, hop-off buses are on service to take visitors from one designer location to the next. In short, it’s a backstage pass to the world of interior design – and there’s a lot to offer for design-conscious punters.

Guests will experience product launches from over 300 brands, creative installations, talks, workshops and of course the hospitality of the design community – not to mention mingling with creative types from architects and designers to decorators and international guests. The designer showrooms are located within designated precincts – Alexandria, Chippendale, Redfern/Waterloo, Surry Hills and Darlinghurst. These suburbs are hotbeds of creative culture, from design to restaurants, galleries, bars and cafes – both old favourites and new discoveries waiting to be explored.
In addition, a program of talks relating to residential, commercial and product design will take place, including the Launch Pad emerging designer program, where you can see the next generation of Australian design – and perhaps meet the designers or pick up one of their very first pieces! Taking place from Thursday 13 August to Saturday 15 August, Sydney Indesign is free to attend – simply pre-register at sydneyindesign. com.au. There is over $30,000 worth of prizes to be won so make sure you come along and be in the running – you may just find that perfect piece for your new place.
Complementing the showroom experience is the newest element of the event: Galleria. A highly curated multi-brand space at the Australian Technology Park will house 70+ brands in a way that will leave the senses stimulated and your design cup overflowing.
