esign agency Studio Pardon has made home their office, and their office home. The space has been carefully curated to fit living and working equally, and suits their philosophies to both life and work to a tee. Lise and Ben, the couple behind Studio Pardon, tell us how and why this arrangement works so well.

“The approach to the design of our home/studio is immersion. Just like learning a language, it is easier to create whilst amongst it. Art is really important to our work. To have it all in one spot could have been tricky but actually works like a charm. Our approach to living is about being surrounded by pieces that have a story to tell. Virtually every object and piece of furnishing has a past that we can talk about. We maintain our space as a constant, evolving work in progress. We blur the lines between creative projects and home life and live amongst our own art and design. We are fortunate enough to love what we do for a living. To live and work in the same space allows us to fully submerge ourselves into our projects. From week to week the look of

our space changes depending on what we are working on. Paintings shift from the studio to hang in the living space on constant rotation. With one of us being quite conservative, it helps to be working in a creative environment, which is more adventurous. We both bring a great balance to our work, our space and our relationship with others. The space where you spend most of your time should be invigorating!” Lise’s favourite piece in the home would be the ‘Dead Rabbit’ work on paper. “It’s one of my earlier pieces, a very modest drawing that I never get tired of looking at. I like the composition, the subject matter, the frame. I have moved home many times and it always found its spot. It fits any space, any wall, any style. Also I like our Jean Prouvé potence wall lamp. I fell for it straight away. I find it so ingenious!” For Ben it’s the “Timber skateboard. It came from Lise’s parents house in the countryside in France. The old steel school lockers are just so damn functional. We also scribble childish comments about each other inside the doors, it never gets old. Also our coffee table. We had been dreaming about an oversized timber coffee table. We had something very specific in mind and spent months looking everywhere. In the end we had one made to our exact specifications.” Studio Pardon studiopardon.com
