We were all reminded what a special place this is in the aftermath of September’s Hurricane Irma. Thanks to the hard work of numerous government agencies, first responders and special people who went out of their way to help others after the storm, the Golden Isles community has quickly rallied from the second serious storm to visit this area in the last two years. It’s because of the tireless efforts of so many that we are able to host some of the world’s most elite professional golfers this week for the 8th playing of The RSM Classic. The RSM Classic is also made possible through our outstanding tournament partners, dedicated volunteers and faithful fans. Welcome to Sea Island! As the RSM Classic marks its eighth year, it is again an honor for me to welcome you to the tournament and to Sea Island. As always, this week’s success comes from the efforts of many people, from the volunteers, sponsors, patrons, RSM, and of course our own Davis Love III, Mark Love, and the entire tournament staff. They have again assembled a week of outstanding competition and entertainment. We especially appreciate the team at RSM as the tournament sponsor and valued Sea Island partner. Their energy and support have spawned the active involvement of other sponsors and patrons, hundreds of volunteers, my fellow team members at Sea Island, and the entire Golden Isles area. Those projects are expected to be finished next fall, during our 90th anniversary year. This long par four is set up by the drive. Players must play far enough left to avoid the large oak trees that can inhibit the second shot on this hole, while avoiding the marsh to the left. Set upon the Atlantic, wind is always a factor here and while there are no bunkers guarding the green, marsh runs the entire left side making the swales right of the green a common place to play third shots.

For those unable to carry the bunker, they must play right on the tee shot and lay up for a short third shot. At 470 yards, players have to negotiate fairway bunkers both right and left to have a second shot into the green protected by bunkers both left and front right. A great finishing hole that can provide great shots for a dramatic finish.

Through Birdies Fore Love, RSM offices commit to raising funds for a local charity that aligns with the missions of the RSM US Foundation and Davis Love Foundation. In 2016, the program raised almost $1.5 million for 72 charities in the local communities where RSM’s employees live and work. The strong fundraising through Birdies Fore Love coupled with proceeds from the tournament brought the 2016 total donation to over $2 million and the program total to more than $7 million.
Friends of the Davis Love Foundation In the program’s first two years, almost $350,000 was raised for local charities established to help children and families. Participating charities raise money by selling raffle tickets for the chance to win a brand new car! 100% of raffle ticket sales are distributed back to participating charities. In addition, the Davis Love Foundation funds a $50,000 bonus pool divided among participating charities based upon the percentage of total money each charity raises.
Primary Beneficiaries Boys & Girls Club of Southeast Georgia The Boys & Girls Club of Southeast Georgia provide guidance and support for over 4,500 youth annually. The mission of the Club is to enable young people to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens. Charity Putting Challenge Wednesday, November 15 4pm Sea Island Golf Performance Center Putting Green A group of 12 PGA TOUR professionals each team up with a Special Olympics athlete and a Boys and Girls Club participant for this exciting putting competition. Representatives from RSM serve as official scorekeepers for each of the teams.
Folds of Honor Million Dollar Challenge Presented by Bridgestone Golf Saturday, November 18 Qualifying - 9am - 2pm #1 - Plantation Finals - immediately following completion of 3rd round #18 - Seaside This is a fun event to test golf skills and possibly win $1 Million Dollars – all while raising valuable funds for The Folds of Honor Foundation. Participants will compete in a “Closest to the Pin” contest with 13 finalists qualifying for a one-shot Challenge Round. The finalist who hits their shot closest to the pin will win a two-night stay at the Sea Island Resort plus a round of golf. A Hole-in-One is worth $1 Million! $20 donation to enter. Established in 2005 by professional golfer Davis Love III and his wife, Robin, the Davis Love Foundation contributes to the well-being and progress of society by supporting both national and community-based programs that focus on children and their families. In 2010, the Davis Love Foundation partnered with the PGA TOUR to become the Host Organization of The RSM Classic, the organization’s largest fundraiser. The inaugural event occurred in October 2010 and currently holds a title sponsor contract with RSM, the nation’s leading provider of assurance, tax and consulting services focused on the middle market, through 2020. After seven years, The RSM Classic has raised more than $7 million to support charities focused on children and families. The funds benefit many organizations including Special Olympics (National, State and Local) and the Boys & Girls Club of Southeast Georgia.
