We were all reminded what a special place this is in the aftermath of last month’s Hurricane Matthew. Thanks to the hard work of numerous government agencies, first responders, and everyday people that went out of their way to help others after the storm, the Golden Isles community has quickly rallied from one of the worst storms to visit this area in many years. It’s because of the tireless efforts of so many that we are able to host the world’s top professional golfers this week for the 7th playing of The RSM Classic.

The RSM Classic is also made possible through our outstanding tournament partners, dedicated volunteers, and faithful fans. I wish I could thank each one of you individually, but please know you are helping make a difference in people’s lives through the numerous charities that benefit from The RSM Classic each year. 2016 marks the 90th anniversary of RSM US LLP (“RSM”), sponsor of the tournament, and the seventh anniversary of this exciting PGA TOUR event.

The first six tournaments were huge successes, with tens-of-thousands of golf enthusiasts joining us in person, and billions tuning in via The Golf Channel and following the tournament online. Perhaps most importantly, the tournament has raised $4.8 million to date for deserving local and national nonprofit organizations.

A difficult driving hole with marsh and bunker left and water on the right. The second shot to this green can be made very difficult depending on pin position as a bunker and water protects the right side and a peninsula green provides a difficult back pin placement.

Players have to negotiate the marsh running the entire left side of the hole while paying attention to three large fairway bunkers protecting the right side. This long par four is set up by the drive. Players must play far enough left to avoid the large oak trees that can inhibit the second shot on this hole, while avoiding the marsh to the left. Set upon the Atlantic, wind is always a factor here and while there are no bunkers guarding the green, marsh runs the entire left side making the swales right of the green a common place to play third shots.

For those unable to carry the bunker, they must play right on the tee shot and lay up for a short third shot. This signature hole requires thinking on the tee. With a tidal creek running the entire left side of the driving area, players will hit their tee shots out to the right, but the farther right you play, the longer the second shot to the well protected green. A bunker protects the green on the front, right side while a false front runs the entire left side.

A great finishing hole that requires both length and accuracy off the tee. At 470 yards, players have to negotiate fairway bunkers both right and left to have a second shot into the green protected by bunkers both left and front right. A great finishing hole that can provide great shots for a dramatic finish.

Charity Initiatives Birdies For Love Now in its third year, RSM’s Birdies Fore Love program is a giving platform tied to the RSM Classic. Each year, RSM makes a difference for at-risk youth through Birdies Fore Love thanks to stellar participation from its partners, principals and employees, gifts from clients and friends of the firm, and a generous match provided by the RSM US Foundation.

Through Birdies Fore Love, RSM offices commit to raising funds for a local charity that aligns with the missions of the RSM US Foundation and Davis Love Foundation. In 2015, the program more than doubled the prior year’s giving, raising almost $1.3 million for 65 charities in the local communities where RSM’s employees live and work.

Friends of the Davis Love Foundation In the program’s first year, over $140,000 was raised for local charities established to help children and families in need.

Participating charities raise money by selling raffle tickets for the chance to win a brand new car! 100% of raffle ticket sales are distributed back to participating charities. In addition, the Davis Love Foundation funds a $50,000 bonus pool divided among participating charities based upon the percentage of total money each charity raises.

Primary Beneficiaries Boys & Girls Clubs of Southeast Georgia The Boys & Girls Clubs of Southeast Georgia provide guidance and support for over 4,500 youth annually. The mission of the Club is to enable young people to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens. Established in 2005 by professional golfer Davis Love, III, the Davis Love Foundation contributes to the well-being and progress of society by supporting both national and community-based programs that focus on children and their families.

In 2010, the Davis Love Foundation partnered with the PGA TOUR to become the Host Organization of The RSM Classic. The inaugural event occurred in October 2010 and currently holds a title sponsor contract with RSM, the nation’s leading provider of assurance, tax and consulting services focused on the middle market, through 2020.
