IDENTIFICATION

THROUGH-HARDENED STEEL

We roll mark our name into the surface of every lug bolt. This is your assurance that you are getting genuine McGard quality and safety.

Every lug bolt is through-hardened and tempered, reaching the depth of hardness needed for its unsurpassed level of safety (unlike case hardening which is only a surface treatment).

PRECISE BEARING SURFACE

PRECISION COATED THREADS

McGard’s floating seat design allows for precision concentricity of the bearing surface to the pitch diameter. This ensures even distribution of the clamp load and uniform seating of the lug bolt to the wheel hub assembly.

Core integrity provides the highest strength in the industry. McGard lug bolts exceed the highest O.E.M. proof load and tensile load standards. The unique process of applying multiple proprietary coatings helps prevent seized or difficult to remove lug bolts.

FLOATING SEAT The floating seat design provides precision control of the torque tension characteristics between the fastener and wheel hub assembly.

OUR LUG NUTS IDENTIFICATION In addition to the thread size and part number, we roll mark our name into the surface of every Tough Nut. This is your assurance that you are getting McGard quality and safety.

THROUGH-HARDENED STEEL We use only restricted chemistry steel made specifically for McGard. These special standards ensure the structural integrity of each and every fully machined McGard wheel lock and lug nut.

LUG BOLTS

OEM design, security, aesthetics, precision, and long life. Our lug bolts are fitted with a separate washer and present the optimal fit for precision functioning. The lug bolts surpass even the high quality safety and durability requirements of the automotive industry. Available in chrome or black finish coating, the lug bolts upgrade the visual appeal of every rim, and therefore your vehicle.

When choosing the proper lug bolt check for: Correct thread size

Cone or Radius style seating surface

Shank length is not too short or too long Detailed technical information please see page 14-15.

NOTE: During wheel installation, bolt shank length must be checked for proper fit.

Too short of a shank will result in lack of engagement and an unsafe condition.

Too long of a shank can extend beyond the hub assembly and possibly cause damage to other vehicle parts.

Spline Drive lug nuts offer a closed-end design, maximum gripping power, more stud engagement and a greater surface than socket style lug nuts. In addition they are 30 % lighter. Choosing The Correct Lug Bolt In many cases McGard lug bolts are designed to be a direct replacement for OEM lug bolts. In our app guide on page 18-19, you can find the correct lug bolts for the particular vehicle with OEM alloy wheels.

3. Install one McGard lug or lock bolt on each wheel from step one. Tighten to normal installation torque.

Minimum thread engagement into hub assembly must be 5½ complete 360º revolutions. Too short of a shank will result in lack of engagement and an unsafe condition (see illustration #1). Too long of a shank can extend beyond the hub assembly and possibly cause damage to other vehicle parts (see illustration #2).

WARNING: Lug Bolts are critical wheel fasteners.

Read the following guidelines to ensure that you choose and install the correct lug bolt. Failure to comply with guidelines & warnings could cause an unsafe condition and result in serious injury or death.

1. Remove one lug bolt from both a front wheel and rear wheel.

2. Visually verify that the seating surface of your current fasteners match the McGard fasteners. Verify that the thread size and shank measurement of your current fasteners match the McGard fasteners.

4. Upon verification of proper application, complete installation per McGard’s installation instructions.

Note: If your spare tire is a steel wheel and your road wheels are aluminum, you must also verify the application for your spare tire/wheel. If you do not wish to verify the application now, you should keep enough of your original fasteners in your vehicle for use with the spare tire/wheel.

resting on the stud, while the bottom of the nut fails to fully contact the wheel. Check for space or gaps between wheel and lock or lug nut. This means the McGard set is not the proper one for your vehicle.

1. Remove one lug nut from both a front wheel and rear wheel.

2. Visually verify that the seating surface of your lug nut matches the McGard lug nut/lock nut.

3. Install one McGard lug nut or lock nut on bolt wheels from step one. Tighten to normal installation torque.

Note: If your spare tire is on a steel wheel and your road wheels are aluminum, you must also verify the application for your spare tire/wheel.

If you do not wish to verify the application now, keep your original lug nuts in your vehicle for use with the spare tire/wheel.

4. Remove both McGard lug nuts or lock nuts.

5. Look at the seating surface of each McGard lug nut or lock nut (see illustration #1). If the seating surface is not marked by the wheel, the lug nut or lock nut may be bottomed on the stud (see illustration #2).

Bottomed out refers to the closed end of the nut

6. Minimum thread engagement must be equal to the thread diameter of the wheel stud.

while the bottom of the nut fails to fully contact the wheel, or the shank is too long and is resting on the hub assembly which will not allow the washer to tighten to the wheel. This means the McGard set is not the proper one for your vehicle.

1. Remove one lug nut from both a front wheel and a rear wheel.

2. Visually verify that the McGard lock nut or lug nut shank length matches your lug nut.

3. Verify the McGard lock nut or lug nut shank diameter matches your lug nut. In all lug nut applications, the McGard lug nut must not have a loose or sloppy fit to the wheel hole diameter.

Note: If your spare tire is on a steel wheel and your road wheels are aluminum you must also verify the application for your spare tire/wheel.

If you do not wish to verify the application now, or your spare tire/wheel has a different seating surface, keep your original lug nuts in your vehicle for use with the spare tire/wheel.

4. Install one McGard lug nut or lock nut on each wheel from step one. Tighten to normal installation torque.

5. Verify that the washer is tight on the wheel. Check for space or gaps between wheel, washer and lock/ lug nut. If there are gaps and the washer is loose the lug nut or lock nut may be bottomed on the stud, or the shank has bottomed on the hub assembly (see illustration #3). Bottomed out refers to the closed end of the nut resting on the stud,

6. Minimum thread engagement must be equal to the thread diameter of the wheel stud.

7. Upon verification of proper application, complete installation per McGard’s installation instructions.

NOTE: When installing wheel lock bolts and lug bolts, verify that it is the correct thread size, seating surface type (cone seat, radius seat, shank) and style as recommended by the wheel manufacturer. Minimum thread engagement must be equal to the thread diameter of the wheel stud. Example: M12x1.5 nut requires a minimum of 12mm of thread engagement.
