All about that magic: Magic Fest boasts global education

The Magic Fest was on October 24th, at 5:00. Did you go?

If you didn’t know, the theme of Magic Fest this year is “Magic Fest Goes Global!”

Students carried around passports, and every time you entered ‘another country,’ you would get a stamp. There is one activity at each country.

Mr. Albritton made rain sticks, like in Africa.

According to Madeline Schultz, her favorite activity was using the toys from China.

Sixth graders ran booths at the event. They gave out food from different cultures. The food they gave out was from China, Thailand, Greece and Mexico.

The Magic Fest also had a musical petting zoo. You could go up and play instruments from all around the world. They had didgeridoos from Australia.

Didgeridoos is an Australian wind instrument.

The Magic Fest had some games like sudoku and a marble game. If you don’t know what sudoku is, sudoku is a number problem game. It is sort of like a number puzzle. There is only 1-9 numbers in the game. You have to use those 9 numbers in the game.

Magic Fest was the place to be this year.

M a n y students had a great time and look forward to next year’s event.

Get to know some student teachers: TMSE helps young professionals learn

By Evey Alley Hannah Gregory is a student teacher at TMSE. Gregory was born on October 20, 1993. Her favorite food is crab legs. Her favorite animal is a dog. She has a pet it is a dog. Her favorite color is purple. And her favorite holiday is Christmas. She likes being a student teacher because it is very fun and she has a great group of students.

Linlee Karn is also a student teacher at TMSE. She was born on December 28, 1993. Her favorite food is sweet potatoes. Her favorite animal is also a dog. And

she also has a pet and it is a dog too. Her favorite color is light blue. And her favorite holiday is Christmas. She likes being a student teacher because she likes learning from her students and learning from the teacher.

Tray Gilbert is also a student teacher for TMSE. His favorite food is pizza. His favorite color is purple. His favorite animal is a lion. He has a pet he has two dogs.

He likes being a student teacher because he has an opportunity to work with students.

Kathleen Habon is also a student teacher a t TMSE. She likes being a student teacher because she is getting to teach well.

More than just coaches Dr. Laura Prior enjoys being creative

Rust brings a lot to TMSE

Dr. Laura Frances Prior was born on November 25th. She is from Opp, Alabama.

A little fun fact is that she got her doctorate from the University of Alabama! Speaking of ’Bama did you know she is like a huge Alabama fan?

Prior is also a talented artist, who works at Sips ‘n’ Strokes. Her favorite color is blue, just plain old blue.

Prior has a dog named Belle and she absolutely adores. One of her favorite foods is fried crab claws.

Her favorite sports are softball, cheerleading and football. Prior said she likes to watch Alabama football at her or her parents’ house.

Here are what some of the students think about her at TMSE: Saxon Skinner said that Prior mainly teaches sixth through eighth grade because she says, “Middle school is way cooler than elementary!”

Saxon also mentioned that Prior enjoys yoga.

Kenley Myers said she is nice and funny. But all of the students agree that she is an awesome P.E. coach, at TMSE! One of Prior’s favorite quotes is by John Widder. Prior said she tries to keep the quote and motivate her students.

“Successful leaders are more concerned with their characters than with their reputation because character is what you really are while reputation is what others think you are.” – John Widder.

Ryan Anthony Rust was born on October 13, 1977. Rust is from New York City.

His favorite sport to play is lacrosse because he played lacrosse in high school. But his favorite sport to play at school is touch ball.

Rust enjoys working out, his favorite workout is lifting weights. Some of his nicknames are Rusty, Country.

Rust’s father was a P.E. coach as well so that is what interested him to be a P.E coach.

Here is some personal life: You probably already know that, he has a son. His name is Rett, he is in 4th grade in Mrs. Craddocks class. Here is something you probably don’t know: Rust has a sister.

Rust’s enjoys teaching fourth and sixth grades. He has taught at TMSE for seven years, joining the school in 2009.

PTA helps school succeed

Barkey says organization promotes partnerships

By Madeline Schultz According to Tammy Barkey the next fundraiser is the Citrus Fundraiser. The citrus sale money goes toward all items budgeted by Parent Teacher Association. For example this pays for: Partnership and program expenses – extra activities like Magic Fest and Field

Day. These are just a few things that the PTA does for our school.

All field day snacks and different supplies are paid for by the PTA. This includes, watermelon, face paint and water. The PTA helps TMSE a lot.

Barkey’s favorite part of PTA is the partnership program.

“We do a lot fun things in partnership like games, crafts,

music, working on the computer and learning,” Barkey said.

University of Alabama students teach partnership classes. Barkey helps set up the partnership programs.

The last event sponsored by the PTA was Magic Fest. The theme was magic fest goes global. This is only one of the many things that PTA does for TMSE.

Time for Comics V.G. student club focuses on comics

The V.G. is a comic club with the members of Rett Rust, Christopher Gutierrez, Ian Maddox, and Zyren Davis-Giles. The V.G. is a fourth grade comic club. Gutierrez is its leader.

Gutierrez says it is a professional comic club in his eyes. Gutierrez said the club is fun.

“When I hear the word V.G., I think of a team, a team that does not fight and will probably never fight. I feel like we can do everything when we are together. Ask me and I say they’re a pretty outstanding group.”

Now here is some interesting things about Maddox. Maddox enjoys reading and eating chicken nuggets. Outside of school, Maddox said the V.G. club is really fun.

“They are a good bunch of people, they make amazing comics,” Maddox said.

Meet some of the faces behind the Minecraft group

By Irving Alter Ella Rose Frantom plays Minecraft.

Frantom enjoys the castle while playing survival mode. Frantom says her favorite thing to do in survival mode is cutting down trees, as well as mine. Her favorite mod is the backpack.

Giles Michael Burnett is also in the Minecraft group. Burnett enjoys the survival mode because he likes to mine.

His favorite map is Notch Land while his favorite mod is crazy craft.

Like Frantom and Burnett, Benjamin Milton Vone is also apart of the Minecraft group.

Vone enjoys playing survival mode because he likes to cut down trees. His favorite mod is Star Wars. He likes to play the chicken canholl map.

Meet the staff Editor’s Note

It brings me great pleasure to present this edition of the Magnet Express. Every student journalist worked exceptionally hard over the course of eight weeks to cultivate story ideas, interview sources and write interesting articles about things going on at TMSE. This was my first time working with students and I can honestly say that the student journalists are going to go far in this industry. We had so much fun this fall and are very proud of all the time and energy that went into this newspaper.
