The Consulate General of India, Sydney, in collaboration with the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre, celebrated Pravasi Bharatiya Divas and Vishwa Hindi Divas on January 9, 2025. The event, held at the Consulate, brought together members of the Indian diaspora and language enthusiasts to honor the contributions of overseas Indians and promote Hindi as a global language.

Consul General Dr. S. Janakiraman addressed the gathering, highlighting the significance of these two occasions. Pravasi Bharatiya Divas commemorates the return of Mahatma Gandhi from South Africa to India in 1915 and celebrates the achievements and contributions of the Indian diaspora worldwide. Vishwa Hindi Divas, observed annually on January 10, promotes the use and preservation of Hindi as an international language and cultural heritage.

The event featured discussions on the growing role of the Indian community in Australia, and the importance of Hindi in fostering global cultural ties. Attendees included representatives from the Indian-Australian community, language scholars, and cultural enthusiasts.
The celebrations underscored the enduring connections between India and its diaspora, while promoting cultural and linguistic exchange in Australia.
