Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and Opposition Leader Peter Dutton extended their heartfelt wishes to India and the Indian diaspora on the occasion of India’s 75th Republic Day, emphasizing the deepening ties between the two nations.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese described Republic Day as a celebration of India’s achievements and rich cultural heritage, acknowledging its progress since gaining independence in 1947. He noted the significance of January 26, which coincides with Australia Day, further strengthening the bond between the two democracies.

“Australia and India have never been closer, and our friendship continues to grow,” he said, praising Indian Australians as the “lifeblood” of the bilateral relationship. He highlighted their contributions in business, science, culture, sport, and the arts, expressing optimism for greater collaboration between the two nations.

Opposition Leader Peter Dutton also acknowledged the historical importance of January 26 for both countries. He reflected on Australia Day’s origins in 1838 and India’s transition to a republic in 1950, recognizing the dual significance of the date for Australians of Indian heritage.

Dutton highlighted the long-standing ties between Australia and India, dating back to the Gallipoli campaign in 1915, and praised the valuable contributions of Indian Australians in shaping modern Australia. He emphasized the shared democratic values, friendship, and enterprise that continue to strengthen bilateral relations.

Both leaders expressed their best wishes to Indian Australians and the global Indian community, reaffirming the strong and enduring partnership between Australia and India.
