CLUB NEWS A MESSAGE FROM THE GENERAL MANAGER It is crazy to think that we were the eighth club purchased by McConnell Golf back in 2011. Over the summer, I had the opportunity to visit six of the now seventeen (soon to be eighteen) clubs in the McConnell Golf family of clubs. During three of these visits, I ran into members of Wakefield Plantation who were also visiting one of our sister clubs. On two occasions, we had some
of our staff members helping out with various events. What a unique opportunity to have so many clubs at your disposal, covering four states. If you are looking to travel to another property, please do not hesitate to contact a member of our staff. We would be happy to assist you with the necessary arrangements. Your support of McConnell Golf, our club, and our staff is very much appreciated. September and October are perfect times to enjoy all that the club has to offer, with beautiful weather for outdoor dining on the terrace or at the Sports Club. With the kids back to school, we are here to help make your lives easier. In addition to this newsletter, be on the lookout for our weekly happenings for plenty of opportunities here at the club. We look forward to seeing you around the club. Michael Thomas, General Manager
CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH FOR JULY AT THE SPORTS CLUB! ILIANA RODRIGUEZ: ACTIVITY STAFF EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH FOR JULY Although she joined our team just this summer, Iliana has quickly established herself as one of our standout new team members. During camp, she captivates children with her creativity, bringing their imaginations to life through elaborate stories and engaging activities. Her dependability, positive attitude, and strong work ethic have made her a valued member of our team and someone who is appreciated by both management and her fellow staff.

DINING EVENTS & INFORMATION It’s hard to believe summer is already coming to a close! We’ve had a fantastic summer here at Wakefield Plantation, and our Food & Beverage team has truly enjoyed seeing the club buzzing with members, their families, and friends, throughout the season. As we head into September and October, we have plenty to look forward to. We’re excited to host our two annual Tuscarora Men’s Member-Guest Golf Tournaments, taking place in September and October. These events are always a highlight of the fall calendar, bringing great competition and plenty of opportunities for our Food & Beverage team to showcase what we do best. We look forward to welcoming our members and their guests and making both tournament experiences ones they won’t forget. We’re also looking forward to our upcoming wine tastings hosted by Tommy. These events are always a great way to discover new wines, enjoy some great food, and spend an evening with friends here at the club. On the home front, my son Connor thoroughly enjoyed his summer internship here at Wakefield Plantation, working under our General Manager, Michael Thomas. It was incredibly rewarding to watch him experience the club from a different perspective, learn from the incredible team around him, and gain valuable experience that I know will serve him well. Connor will soon be heading back to NC State University to begin his sophomore year. My daughter, Taylor, is also getting ready for another busy school year as she begins her junior year at Wakefield High School. Between her dance company and being a member of the varsity dance team at Wakefield, she certainly keeps herself busy! Thank you to our members for making this summer such a great one. As we head into the fall season we are looking forward to a fantastic few months ahead, and our entire Food & Beverage team is looking forward to sharing it with you. We’ll see you around the club! Todd Jackson, Executive Chef/Food & Beverage Director

Growing up in a small town in the vast plains of Central Illinois, music became an escape and an adventure at an early age. Steve flowered from a musical family. His father played in the band in school, his mother and older sister are pianists and singers, and his entire family performed in a band together when he was a teen. At the age of 5 he learned the piano and practiced/performed for several years until he met percussion in 4th grade. Steve quickly dove into the world of rhythm and performed in school bands, summer marching band, garage rock bands, pep bands and was even President of his high school band. In college, his background of melodies and rhythm naturally led him to explore the guitar and how this instrument brings these components together. From his small town roots in the 70's, 80's and 90's, Steve developed a love for music with "soul" that not only leaves your feet tapping but keeps you humming along with the lyrics. Today, after discovering the wonderful world of live looping, he now performs his "one-man band" show layering rhythm, beat, melody, harmony and solos to delight crowds of all ages and musical tastes.

FITNESS
A MESSAGE FROM HEATHER Hello, fellow athletes! I have been loving the summer and I hope it has treated you well. Now that it is cooling off a bit and you may be thinking about improving your game, I thought I would list a few reminders of why having a personal trainer is your Ultimate Golf Upgrade. For instance, new clubs only optimize the speed you already have. To build new speed and eliminate bad misses, you must train the engine behind the swing: your body. Here is exactly why hiring a personal trainer is the fastest way to fix your game: They Build Explosive Yardage: Trainers target your lower body and core to maximize ground force, directly boosting club-head speed and distance. They Lock In Consistency: By strengthening your stabilizing muscles, a trainer helps you maintain your posture and repeat your exact swing plane.
They Clear Mobility Bottlenecks: Through golf-specific screening, a trainer unlocks tight hips and a stiff upper back for a full, effortless turn. They Protect Your Joints: Trainers build a resilient muscular foundation to shield your lower back, shoulders, and elbows from high-speed rotational stress. They Eliminate Back-Nine Fatigue: Tailored conditioning programs ensure you stay strong and focused through the 18th green. Stop trying to buy a better game. Invest in a professional to help you build one. Let's do this together. Let me help with the kinesiology of your body, your game. Oh, and let's welcome this wonderful new season! If there is anything at all I can help with please don't hesitate to call me at 919-649-3007 or email at Baileyfunfitness@aol.com Heather Bailey Overington, Personal Trainer Phone: 919-649-3007 | Email: baileyfunfitness@aol.com
STRENGTH TRAINING & MENOPAUSE Regular Strength training is essential during and after menopause. As estrogen declines, women lose muscle and bone more quickly. Lifting weights helps.
💪 Preserve and build muscle mass and strength. 🦴 Maintain bone density and reduce osteoporosis and fracture risk. 🔥 Support metabolism and body composition as muscle mass naturally declines with age. ⚖️ Improve balance and stability, helping reduce falls. ❤️ Support metabolic and cardiovascular health, including blood sugar regulation. 🏋️♀️ Maintain functional strength for everyday activities and independence. 🧠 Improve mood, confidence, sleep, and overall quality of life.
💪 Strong muscles. Strong bones. Strong women. Tracy Doherty, Personal Trainer tracy2329@icloud.com

GROUP FITNESS CLASS DESCRIPTIONS All of our group fitness classes are complimentary! We hope to see you and your friends at one of our classes!
Mondays at 5:30pm ZUMBA (with Kirby): Join the party with Zumba — the ultimate dance-fitness experience! This high-energy class combines Latin-inspired rhythms with easy-to-follow dance moves for a fun, full-body workout. You’ll burn calories, boost your endurance, and tone your muscles while moving to upbeat music from around the world. No dance experience needed — just bring your enthusiasm and get ready to sweat, smile, and shake it! Tuesdays at 5:30pm & Saturdays at 9:00am Gentle & Slow-Paced Yoga (with Greg): A gentle yoga class is the perfect antidote to a stressful day, offering a slow-paced, accessible practice that welcomes all levels. Led by an instructor who believes that yoga should be equal parts mindful movement and good-natured fun, the class encourages participants to embrace the practice without taking themselves too seriously. You might find yourself chuckling during a wobbly balance pose or hearing a lighthearted joke about tight hamstrings—because, let’s be honest, we all have them. Safety and alignment are consistently cued to help prevent injuries, ensuring that even those new to yoga feel confident and supported in each posture. Whether you're here to stretch, breathe, or just enjoy an hour of self-care, this class creates a space where everyone can move at their own pace. Beyond the physical practice, this class offers a sense of connection and belonging. Whether you’re deepening your yoga journey or simply looking for a friendly place to meet others, the relaxed and welcoming atmosphere makes it easy to strike up a conversation before or after class. Sharing a laugh during a pose or a knowing smile when the instructor cracks a joke fosters a sense of community that extends beyond the mat. It’s not just about stretching—it’s about finding a moment of joy, easing tension (both physical and mental), and leaving with a lighter heart.
9/11 STEP CHALLENGE The 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb involves climbing 110 flights of stairs. This represents the number of floors in the World Trade Center's Twin Towers, which collapsed on September 11, 2001. The climb is a way to honor the first responders and others who lost their lives on that day. As we remember 9/11, we are challenging all of you to take part in our step challenge. Any time on 9/11, please come into the gym and climb 110 flights on one of our two stair climbers. Once you are done, record your time with the front desk team. The individual who completes this the fastest will win a prize basket!
Tuesdays at 8:00am YOGALATES (with Heather): Yogalates is a type of exercise inspired by yoga and pilates, as its name suggests. It is said to harness the physical and mental benefits of both practices. It will incorporate yoga postures, gentle movement sequences, breath work, core work, and supportive guided relaxation for increased awareness. All levels welcomed. Wednesdays at 9:00am Go with the Flow Yoga (with Heather): A fasterpaced yoga practice that moves with a bit more rhythm and the asanas paired with the breath. Modifications are taught and encouraged. *Please bring a mat and preferably a block and strap Thursdays at 8:45am Fitter Faster (with Heather): This class is held outdoors using equipment and body weight to challenge your entire body. This total body workout is a great way to condition for other sports, increase stamina and endurance, stop cellular aging, build muscle strength, and promote weight loss. We will incorporate intervals and Tabata training. Fast paced and fun but you can work at your own pace. Fridays at 9:00am Strength for Life with Tracy - A full-body strength and conditioning class for adults of all fitness levels. Improve strength, balance, mobility, and endurance through safe, effective workouts designed to help you move better and feel stronger every day.

TENNIS TIME COACH’S CORNER Tennis: As we transition into cooler fall temperatures, it's a great time to focus on building points rather than simply trying to hit winners. Work on moving your opponent around the court, creating open space, and waiting for the right ball to attack. A little patience and good point construction can go a long way. Pickleball: Fall is a great time to work on your transition game. When moving from the baseline toward the kitchen, focus on controlled shots that give you time to move forward rather than trying to hit through your opponent. Getting to the kitchen under control will put you in a much better position to win the point. “A Personal Thank You” As many of you know, I will be leaving Wakefield this fall to pursue a new opportunity. Before I go, I want to take a moment to thank all of you for the support, friendships, and memories you've given me during my time here. Wakefield has been much more than just a place to work. I've had the opportunity to teach, coach, compete, and grow alongside so many great members and families. Watching our tennis and pickleball communities continue to grow has been one of the most rewarding parts of my time here. I am incredibly grateful for the relationships I've built and the memories I'll take with me. Thank you for trusting me with your games, your kids, and your time over the years. I will always be thankful for my time at Wakefield and will be cheering for the continued success of this community. I hope to see as many of you as possible around the courts over the next couple of months! If you have any questions or need help getting signed up for an event, camp, or clinic, please reach out. Thanks, Davis Humphries, Assistant Director of Tennis

TEE IT UP A MESSAGE FROM YOUR DIRECTOR OF GOLF
SUMMER GOLF CAMPS
The “dog days” of summer are beginning to move behind us, with the fall golf calendar right on the horizon. As cooler temperatures begin to arrive, the golf course should be rounding into the fantastic fall conditioning we typically enjoy. Todd Lawrence and his staff have done a wonderful job keeping the course together through some very challenging circumstances. Hopefully, Mother Nature will cooperate and provide us with great fall weather so we can enjoy the course at its peak. The fall season is a great time to enjoy the course, but it is also one of our busiest times of the year. I encourage all members to please check the tee sheet before inviting guests, as we have many days when events and activities impact play. As the days become shorter, please continue to place an emphasis on pace of play during your round. Extra awareness and consideration for pace of play will go a long way toward providing a better golf experience for everyone. The Professional Staff and I are eager to help in any way we can to enhance your member experience. We are always available for lessons, club fittings, merchandise questions, tee-time assistance, and anything else golf-related. Please feel free to approach any member of the staff with questions, suggestions, or concerns. I am blessed to have a tremendous team that is passionate about promoting the welcoming and enjoyable atmosphere that makes Wakefield such a special place. We look forward to seeing everyone out on the course and enjoying a great fall golf season together. Joey Latino, PGA, Director of Golf

SEDGEFIELD COUNTRY CLUB SECURES PLACE IN PGA TOUR’S NEW CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES One of the PGA TOUR’s longest-running relationships will continue into a new era as Sedgefield Country Club remains home to Greensboro’s PGA TOUR event. Beginning in 2028, the tournament will become part of the new PGA TOUR Championship Series, with Raymond James serving as title sponsor. The event will be contested as a full-field PGA TOUR event in 2027 before transitioning to the Championship Series. Founded in 1938 as the Greater Greensboro Open, the tournament has been won by legends including Sam Snead, Byron Nelson and Ben Hogan, with Sedgefield hosting the event more than 40 times. After a 31-year absence, the PGA TOUR returned to Sedgefield in 2008 following the restoration of its Donald Rossdesigned course, and McConnell Golf acquired the club in 2011. The announcement ensures Sedgefield will remain on one of golf’s biggest stages as the PGA TOUR enters its next era. In 2028, the Greensboro event will celebrate its 90th anniversary, bringing its remarkable history full circle.
