AMESSAGEFROMHEATHER

Assomeofyoumightknow,Springismyveryfavoritetimeofyear!Springjustfeelssofreshandhappywithallofthe colorsandnewlifebeginning.

This year I would like to emphasize the reasons it's so important to warm up and stretch before you begin lifting weights. Your body needs to reach a temperature of approximately 100 degrees to stretch safely and you should alwaysstretchbeforeyourworkout Youcandoanyaerobicmotionfor5-10minutestogetthebodywarm Warming up matters because it prepares your body and your brain for what you’re about to demand from them. A good warm up isn’t just a formality it’s a physiological transition that reduces risk, improves performance, and makes theentireworkoutfeelsmootherandmorecontrolled Itistrulyanecessity

1 Itincreasesbloodflowandoxygendelivery-Asyourheartrategraduallyrises,moreoxygen-richbloodreaches

your muscles. Warm muscles contract more efficiently, react faster, and are less prone to strains or tears. Skipping this step is like trying to sprint with a cold engine everything feels tight and sluggish

2 It improves joint mobility and range of motion - Gentle movement lubricates your joints with synovial fluid, making them more flexible and responsive. This reduces stiffness and helps your body move through exercises with better form, which directly lowers injury risk.

3 It activates the muscles you’re about to use - Warm-ups “wake up” the neuromuscular system Your brain starts firing the specific movement patterns you’ll need, improving coordination, balance, and reaction time This is especially important for anything involving speed, power, or heavy lifting.

4 It elevates performance - A warmed-up body can generate more force, move more efficiently, and sustain effort longer Athletes warm up not just to avoid injury, but because it measurably improves strength, speed, and endurance 5. It prepares your mind - A warm-up creates a mental shift from rest to focus. It helps you tune into your body, notice any tightness or discomfort, and mentally rehearse the work ahead That awareness makes your workout safer and more intentional

The bottom line - A proper warm-up is a small investment with a big payoff: fewer injuries, better performance, and a workout that feels more fluid and controlled. It’s the difference between forcing your body into action and guiding it there with purpose. I can help you craft a warm-up, stretch, and routine tailored to the type of exercise you’re doing I can show you exercises specific to your sport or to your personal goals. Keep up the good work and I will see you in the gym!

Monday, June 29 | Red, White & Blue 6-Man Tennis Event

Players will be grouped into teams of three for 3-on-3 tennis: two at the baseline and one at the net, rotating after every point loss. If you’ve played this format in clinics, you know it’s fast-paced and a lot of fun We’ll have music going and a member charge bar open great way to wrap up the month.

Tennis:

Most points at the club level are lost, not won Aim bigger targets, give yourself more margin over the net, and make your opponent hit one more ball. Consistency wins.

Pickleball:

At the kitchen line, patience matters Don’t speed up low balls reset, stay disciplined, and wait for something you can actually attack If you have any questions or need help getting signed up, feel free to reach out. Otherwise, we’ll see you out there.

FROM THE GREENS

PLAY WELL, LEAVE IT BETTER

Golf season is in full swing, and we’re all enjoying the course There are things we can do to further enhance our course experience Here are some simple ways to improve our rounds and leave the course better than we found it:

Fix Ball Marks: On the greens, repair your ball mark plus one more Unfixed marks take two weeks to heal let’s keep those putting surfaces smooth

Handle Flagsticks Carefully: Don’t let them drop freely onto the green it dents the surface and affects ball roll.

Lower them carefully or place them by hand

Drive Smart: When using carts, vary your entry and exit points on fairways to prevent worn paths Avoid sharp turns and hard braking it will damage the turf.

Bunker Etiquette: Enter and exit bunkers from the low side Exiting the bunker on the high side loosens and softens the sand, making the face unlevel After your shot, rake your footprints with a push-pull motion, keeping the sand inside the bunker

Fill Divots: Use the provided sand to fill divots on tees and fairways. It promotes even regrowth and keeps your playing surface level. Trash It: Cigarette and cigar butts belong in the trash bins not on the course

Each tip is small, but together, they improve our course’s playability and beauty. Let’s all be difference makers this season our fellow golfers will notice.

Wishing you a fantastic golfing year ahead!

To improve playing conditions on Hole 8, we removed a large oak tree on the left side of the fairway to improve traffic flow and reduce shade. We also installed 1,500 linear feet of 4inch drainage pipe in the lower half of the fairway, enlarged two drainage basins on the right side, installed an 18-inch pipe, and sodded all disturbed areas

Finishing at 1-over (214), the team claimed the title in a sudden-death playoff on the first extra hole at Solina Golf Club

MCCONNELL GOLF COURSES EARN STRONG GAINS IN 2026 N.C. GOLF PANEL RANKINGS

McConnell Golf once again placed all of its North Carolina private clubs among the state’s Top 100 courses, highlighted by four clubs earning Top 25 rankings in the North Carolina Golf Panel’s 30th annual statewide rankings, published in the April issue of Business North Carolina magazine

Leading the portfolio is Greensboro’s Sedgefield Country Club, home of the PGA TOUR’s Wyndham Championship, ranked No 7 in North Carolina Old North State Club in New London followed at No 11, while Raleigh Country Club climbed to No 15 Durham’s Treyburn Country Club made one of the year’s biggest moves, jumping four spots into the Top 25 at No 25 In total, 11 McConnell Golf courses earned Top 100 recognition statewide, marking a strong year of upward momentum across the company’s North Carolina portfolio

Several Triangle-area clubs posted notable improvements. The Country Club at Wakefield Plantation in Raleigh made a significant leap, rising to No. 75 from No. 94 last year. Treyburn’s move into the Top 25 further strengthened the region’s standing among the state’s premier courses. Eastern North Carolina also saw major gains, as Wilson Country Club surged into the Top 100 at No. 84 after being unranked last year one of the largest upward moves in this year’s rankings

Other McConnell Golf properties earning Top 100 honors include: Country Club of Asheville, ranked No 52, up two spots year-over-year

The Cardinal by Pete Dye in Greensboro, ranked No 54, continuing its steady upward trend

Porters Neck Country Club in Wilmington, improving to No 57

Providence Country Club in Charlotte, ranked No. 85.

Brook Valley Country Club in Greenville, rounding out the list at No. 100.

McConnell Golf remains the only individual golf course owner in the world to steward four Donald Ross-designed courses, including Sedgefield Country Club and Raleigh Country Club, both of which continue to rank among North Carolina’s elite layouts The 2026 North Carolina Golf Panel rankings, based on playability, design, conditioning and experience, highlight another strong year driven by continued investment in courses, facilities and member experience
