Happy Summer! It was quite the turn of events with the lake levels being so low and the decision to stay open for the summer, postponing our renovation until next year. Like any good poker play we play the hand in which we're dealt and are going to make the most of it! Before we go any further I'd like to recognize some champions from tournaments the past couple of months:

Men's Member- Guest Champions

Lee Cassada & Grant Cassada

Women's Member-Guest Gross Champions

Marianne Ganley & Karen Brookshire

Net Champions

Evelyn Vaden & Jen Chaconas

As we look to July and August, we want to remind our golfers about proper hydration and safety. The temperatures can rise quickly and it's important to take the necessary precautions to be safe on the course: wear appropriate clothing for sun protection, wear sunscreen, put a wet towel around your neck, and hydrate! Drink plenty of fluids during your round, not just when you feel thirsty Trying to play early in the morning or later in the day are good ways to avoid the middle of the day heat And always remember you can call the golf shop at any time to bring something out to you!

Despite the course staying open this summer, we are going to keep our Member-Member tournaments, men's and ladies, and the Club Championships in the fall We've added event formats for WELGA on Thursday mornings along with our four-person captain's choice events on Thursday evenings We may try to sneak in another Mixed Foursome event in August Keep an eye on the Weekly Happenings email for more information on upcoming events

Merchandise Spotlight: This year we've tried to get creative with the items in the golf shop. Who says a golf shop has to sell only golf shirts? This summer we've tried to carry items that fit in with your everyday life and life at the lake! We have flip flops, key fobs that would be great with a set of boat keys, dog collars, dog leashes, sun hats, bath towels and hand towels for the powder room, t-shirts, wine glasses, rocks glasses and more! Swing by the golf shop and see how you can bring the Club into your home!

Instruction Spotlight: We're entering the dog days of summer Sometimes the mental grind of golf can take its toll, especially as the temperatures increase! I feel it's important, when practicing, to think of quality over quantity I'd much rather see golfers spend 30 minutes hitting 30 golf balls, taking time to think before every shot, and do that several times a week, than to come out and spend three hours in one day practicing every aspect of the game Shorter practice sessions allow you keep focus and avoid fatigue, both mentally and physically Develop a practice plan for the week How many days can you come out? If it's three days, spend one day hitting 30 shots and then practice putting Next time hit 30 shots and practicing your short game, etc. As a wise person once said, failing to prepare is preparing to fail. So come up with a game plan for your next practice session, keep it short and sweet, and as the temps go up, let's watch your handicap go down!

EQUESTRIAN CENTER NEWS

Summer is in full swing at the Equestrian Center, and we have enjoyed an incredible start to camp season! Our campers have been spending their days horseback riding, learning about horse care, creating crafts, playing games, and making memories that will last a lifetime

We still have openings in several upcoming camp sessions, so it's not too late for your child to join the fun Please contact the barn for availability and registration information

In June, the Equestrian Center hosted its very first Murder Mystery Dinner, welcoming members for an evening filled with suspense, laughter, delicious food, and plenty of surprises. It was wonderful to see so many members come together to solve the mystery while enjoying a unique night at the barn The event was such a success that we are already planning another Murder Mystery Dinner before the end of the summer Be sure to watch the Weekly Happenings and club calendar for details you won't want to miss it!

To help ensure the safety of both our members and our animals, all members will now be required to sign a Release of Liability Form prior to feeding any of the horses or our beloved pig This update was recommended by our insurance provider as an added measure to protect both our guests and the Equestrian Center

We appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we continue to provide a safe and enjoyable environment for everyone

Before feeding any animals, members are asked to check in with a member of the Equestrian staff. Our team can provide guidance on appropriate feeding practices and help ensure treats are offered safely.

For the health and well-being of our horses, only apples and carrots may be fed to them Please do not bring any other treats or food items for the horses Our pig enjoys a wider variety of snacks; however, meat products and fruits or vegetables containing pits should never be offered If you have any questions regarding appropriate treats, please ask a staff member before feeding

The Equestrian staff is also excited to introduce our new Drop & Go events! Once each month, parents will have the opportunity to drop off their children during select club events while the kids enjoy an evening filled with games, crafts, activities, and plenty of fun Details regarding dates, times, pricing, and registration will be announced in the Weekly Happenings, so keep an eye out for upcoming opportunities

As camp season continues, we kindly ask for your understanding regarding our riding schedule. To provide the best possible experience for both our campers and lesson participants, ring rides, lessons, and trail rides will not be scheduled on days when camp is in session. Additionally, members are asked to schedule rides at least two days in advance Advance notice allows us to appropriately plan staffing and ensure the health and well-being of our horses throughout the busy summer season

As always, thank you for your continued support of the Equestrian Center We are grateful to be part of your family's experiences and look forward to making the rest of the summer one to remember

Happy Riding!

COURSEUPDATE COURSEUPDATE

I know many of you share the disappointment that Donald and I feel about the project being postponed until next year As frustrating as the delay is, given the current status of the lake, uncertainty around future water levels, and the potential for state-issued water restrictions, it was the right decision

In the meantime, we’ve been busy catching up on work we held off on this spring in anticipation of closing the course and taking fairways and tees out of play For example, we did not aerify the greens this spring because the plan was to use larger tines after the course closed. While we were shut down for a few days recently, we were able to punch small holes in the greens and follow that with another machine that provided some additional subsurface disruption. This is not as effective as our normal spring and fall aerification, but given the time of year, it was the best available option. We will continue with small-tine aerification throughout the summer to give the greens the best chance for survival.

As discussed earlier, ABW (annual bluegrass weevil) is not an issue for Bermuda. During the shutdown we were able to get caught up on those applications. We also held off on applying a bulk fertilizer with pre-emergent this spring, knowing that would be covered in the pre-plant application prior to sprigging Bermuda. Since the postponement, we have applied a pre-emergent; however, it went down later than ideal, and some weeds are already visible. Post-emergent sprays are not kind to existing turf, but we will manage them as carefully as we can.

The long and short of it is that we are a bit behind heading into the summer Poa has increased because we had planned to remove it, and it does not tolerate heat well We appreciate your patience this year and will do everything we can to keep the course in the best possible condition

A FEW REMINDERS TO HELP US:

· Divots: Please replace divots on the course If the divot is intact, place it back and step it down firmly If it is not intact, replace what you can and fill the remainder with sand. Be sure to level the sand to avoid damage to mowers.

Ball marks: On the greens, please repair your ball mark and one additional mark. This small step has a big impact on putting surfaces for everyone.

We have scheduled the fall greens aerification for August 24 - August 26 The practice facilities will be open on August 25 and August 26 Thank you in advance for your help and understanding as we work to make TWE the best it can be th th th th
