PROVIDENCE Providence Members, First and foremost, as your General Manager, I want to thank you all for your support in 2025. It was incredible to see the success here at Providence and know we’ll continue to become one of the most sought after Clubs to be a part of in Charlotte. To the staff, we’re very grateful to have a group of individuals who work daily to create experiences here we all can be proud of.

As we head into the New Year, we’re excited to see continued growth, enhancements, and excitement from everyone involved at Providence.

Golf continues to grow, Tennis courts remain packed, the fitness facilities see all-time highs for usage, and Food & Beverage works toward building upon late 2025 momentum.

Typically, January and February slow down at the Club as many take time to relax at home after the holiday season. During the next few months, we hope you have the opportunity to dine at the Club and enjoy Table 16, Preston’s, or the Card Room. Chef John and his team will continue to enhance the menus and offer culinary options everyone will enjoy. Monica and the restaurant team look forward to serving you and continue to offer exceptional service.

This is also a perfect time to consider joining the wine club, Providence Cork & Barrel, if you have yet to commit. We’re glad to share all of our offerings with you. We already have Round Pond and Orin Swift on the books for wine dinners in 2026, these should be a lot of fun.

And just like that we turn the calendar to the start of another New Year! It’s hard to believe 2025 is behind us and 2026 has arrived. The Professional staff thanks all of you for another successful year and looks forward to all that is in front of us with the beginning of a new golf season. Attached, you’ll find the 2026 competition calendar for all major events. In the coming weeks we’ll have the couples golf calendar, LGA season schedule of events, official start date of “Dogfight”, and other events such as glow golf, Op36 offerings, and clinic dates. As we start the New Year, I’d like to recognize a few exciting accomplishments for our team that occurred late in 2025. Zack Maybank was promoted to Head Golf Professional, very well deserved for Zack as he’s worked hard to achieve this position. Craig Black was named a Top-50 Golf Coach for Operation36. Craig has devoted a large amount of time to our instructional programs, summer camps, and teaching of our juniors in 2025, well done Craig! I’m extremely proud of our team and look forward to seeing all they can accomplish in the upcoming year. We truly have a special group of Professionals who are devoted to making your golf experience here at Providence a huge success.

Thank you to all who support our Golf Shop, tournament program, lessons with the Professionals, and engaging with our team on a daily basis. Our shop sales continue to grow, which allows us to bring in and try different vendors. Please remember we can meet/beat the PGA TOUR Superstore with pricing, make sure you are fit properly, and give you honest assessments on your equipment. If at any time we can assist with special orders, we are more than glad to do so. Our event offerings continue to grow because of your participation. We love seeing all the couples play monthly in couples golf, are absolutely thrilled with the direction of our instruction program and growing the game of golf for our youth, and seeing so many learn the game through Operation36 and improve at a rapid pace. Golf Tip The winter months are a great time to do routine maintenance on your clubs, clean out your golf bag, and get ready for the season ahead. We highly suggest checking lofts and lies on your clubs during January or February to ensure the clubs you were fit for are still in a spot that is right for your game. YES, I said fit for…Buying clubs “off the rack” does no good for your game. Notice our Golf Shop doesn’t carry full sets of Clubs as we firmly believe all of you should be properly fit to match your swing. Use the cold months to make sure your grips are fresh and clean or re-gripped if needed.

Clean out your golf bag, lessen the weight added by old/scuffed golf balls, remove Practice balls and return to the range, or throw out whatever it is you’ve included in your bag that you don’t use.

Stop by the Golf Shop to get the new bag, have us re-grip your clubs, and don’t forget to check your lofts and lies….Crazy how sometimes your 7 iron goes the same distance as your 9 iron!?!?

Golf Course Update With 2025 behind us, I’m excited to look forward to what 2026 has in store for us here at Providence.

Some big-ticket items were crossed off the list over the past two months, and we can now hit the reset button and prepare for the new year. We were able to apply our big pre-emergence/post-emergence herbicide spray back in November. This sets us up for a clean golf course through the fall, winter, and into spring. We were also able to finally tidy up the course and clean up all the leaves. This year’s leaf cleanup efforts were very efficient with the dry conditions. Having these things behind us has allowed us to concentrate on other things to get ready for the 2026 growing season.

Wintertime presents a good opportunity to do some tree work that we may not have time to complete during the rush of the growing season.

Trees that are dead, present a hazard, or trees that compromise turf health are things we look for during the growing season, so we know what to address during the winter months when there is time.

We will have our spring pre-emergence herbicide/fertilizer bulk spread application take place near the end of January. We have used this timing for the past four years, and it has been very successful at keeping us clean and weed-free. We go this early for two reasons. One reason is so we can get it done and over with. However, the main reason is so that the material is there, in the ground, for whenever the plants are ready to start waking up. This may happen with a warm spell in February or an early spring green-up. Regardless, we will be ready for whatever the weather throws at us from a weed-prevention standpoint.

Over the past few years, we have corrected some soil issues and implemented different fertilization and cultural practices, and have seen vast improvements in plant health as a result. Utilizing the newest fungicide chemistries and timing strategies for more thorough protection from the major soil diseases is another thing we do to stay current with practices. In 2025, we did some trial work with different Plant Growth Regulators (PGRs) that we really liked. These changes will be introduced fully in 2026 on the greens and fairways. We seem to have landed on a very good greens fertility program in 2025, so we will look to repeat for 2026. As always, we will continue to follow a simplistic, no-nonsense approach to maximize plant health through the growing season and year-round.

COBBLESTONE GOLF CLUB

WHAT’S NEW IN THE NEW YEAR? COURSE IMPROVEMENT PROJECTS IN 2026 Cobblestone Golf Club: Beginning in Fall 2025, Cobblestone Golf Club will undergo a major renovation on the Black 9 course, rebuilding all bunkers with Capillary Concrete liners and new sand, improving drainage, and installing new concrete cart paths with select rerouting and tree removal. The same work will follow on the Garnet 9 course, with completion targeted for Spring 2026. During construction, the nine holes under renovation will be closed.

The Water’s Edge Country Club: After Memorial Day, The Water’s Edge will close the course to convert all bentgrass fairways and tees to Bermudagrass, with a 10–12 week grow-in and a planned reopening by Labor Day. The club will also begin practice facility upgrades, including a redesigned first hole, a relocated putting green, and an expanded driving range tee near the clubhouse.

These enhancements will elevate the overall golf experience and position the club for long-term success.

It’s hard to believe that 2026 is almost here, and what an incredible year 2025 was for tennis at Providence Country Club! The last year was filled with growth, energy, and community spirit, making it one of our most exciting seasons yet.

I’d like you all to know that I have truly enjoyed my time here at Providence and am grateful for the opportunity to be part of such a welcoming and supportive tennis community. Working with you on the courts, sharing matches, lessons, and events, and watching the club’s tennis program thrive has been incredibly rewarding.

Thank you for all the kindness and encouragement you have shown me along the way. I wish all of the Providence Tennis Members continued success, good health, and many enjoyable days on the courts. I hope our paths cross again, and I carry nothing but fond memories and best wishes with me.

January Cookie of the Month BROWN BUTTER CHOCOLATE CHIP TOFFEE COOKIES MICHAEL MONAHAN, EXECUTIVE CHEF AT THE COUNTRY CLUB OF ASHEVILLE I picked this cookie because it reminds me of the kind I’d make at home on a slow Sunday afternoon—simple, a little nostalgic, and hard to stop eating. The browned butter gives it that warm, toasty flavor that fills the kitchen, and the bits of chocolate and toffee make every bite feel like a small reward.

INGREDIENTS: Brown Butter Base 1 lb unsalted butter 1 lb light brown sugar, packed ½ lb granulated sugar 4 each large eggs 2 Tbsp pure vanilla extract 1 tsp kosher salt Dry Ingredients 2 lb all-purpose flour 1 Tbsp baking soda 1 tsp baking powder Mix-ins 12 oz semisweet chocolate chips 8 oz toffee bits (Heath or similar)

DIRECTIONS: Brown the butter | In a saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Cook until it foams and turns golden with a nutty aroma. Immediately transfer to a mixing bowl to cool slightly (about 10 minutes).

Combine sugars and butter | Add brown sugar and granulated sugar to the cooled brown butter. Mix until smooth and glossy. Add eggs and vanilla | Whisk or mix on medium speed until fully emulsified and creamy. Combine dry ingredients | In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt. Add to the wet ingredients and mix just until incorporated. Fold in mix-ins | Stir in chocolate chips, toffee bits, and optional nuts. Dough should be soft but not sticky. Scoop & chill | Portion into 1 oz (tablespoon-size) scoops. Chill at least 30 minutes (or freeze for bake-off flexibility).

Bake | Set oven to 350 °F convection or 365 °F still air. Place on parchment-lined sheet trays, 2 inches apart. Bake 8–10 minutes until edges are golden and centers just set. Finish | Cool on trays 5 minutes, then transfer to racks. Optional: sprinkle lightly with flaky sea salt while warm.

February Cookie of the Month APRICOT, CRAISIN, ORANGE ALMOND COOKIE JOHN CRAWFORD, EXECUTIVE CHEF AT RALEIGH COUNTRY CLUB & LYNN HART, PASTRY CHEF AT RALEIGH COUNTRY CLUB This Cookie recipe was a staple item for a High Tea fundraiser event we did every year at the Oasis House Ministry in Ohio. The Ministry was able to raise over $10 Thousand dollars for women in need. - Lynn Hart INGREDIENTS: ½ Cup Chopped Craisins 1/4 Cup Chopped Apricots ¼ Cup Chopped Almonds Zest and Juice 1 Orange (you will need 2 Table Spoons of Juice) 2 Cups Flour ½ Cup Sugar ½ teaspoon Salt 1 Cup Chilled Butter Cubes 1 teaspoon almond extract DIRECTIONS: In a food processor, pulse the flour, Sugar, Salt and Cubed Butter until the mixture is crumbly. Add the Almond Extract, Orange Zest and Juice. Fold in the Craisins, Almonds and Apricot. Knead into a tight log shape with 1 ¼ inch wide.

Let it rest for an hour in the refrigerator. Slice ¼ inch thick. Bake in a 350-degree home oven or 325-degree Convection oven for approximately 10 minutes.

I have been at PCC for 1 year, I have worked here in the past. I enjoyed it so much here, that I returned. I love the Members and their guests. I prefer to eat at home and my favorite food is a delicious Ribeye steak, followed by my favorite dessert - Mochi Dango. If I do go out to eat, Yamaz Aru is the best.

A little something people don’t know about me is that some of my hobbies are, Muay - Thai, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Kick Boxing, and I absolutely love to sing Karaoke. I have fond memories of singing and just having a good time. I also like to write poetry and read. If I could have dinner with anyone, it would be Jesus Christ, I have so many questions to ask when it comes to the gospels.
