CLUB UPDATE A MESSAGE FROM YOUR GENERAL MANAGER I hope everyone had a magical holiday season. It was wonderful to see so many of our members & families attend the Santa Brunch and Christmas Party. I hope you enjoyed it as much as our team did while planning and executing the events. Happy New Year!! It is hard to believe 2023 is in the rearview mirror now. We had an eventful 2023 with the golf course renovation and improvements in the clubhouse. 2024 will bring new pickleball hard courts and other improvements throughout the club. Hannah is settling into her position and is planning lots of events for 2024. We hope you will come out and support her creative ideas. You can continue to view events online and make reservations as well. Please note that we will continue the 48-hour cancellation policy for some of our events. We have had great turnout this past year and have seen a demand for the Holiday Weekend Celebrations and will increase seating so all of our members can attend. William is also working with Hannah to plan additional special member events like our bourbon dinners. We are looking at planning a Tequila Dinner, a Wine Dinner, featuring Childress Wines and my personal favorite – Scotch, Steak & Stogies. I like to blend great food, great drink and education with these events. Utilizing experts in the areas of distilled spirits, and cigars, paired with Chef Issac’s take on his menu makes for a great evening. And last, but certainly not least, we will be starting our Trivia Nights with “T.” Please stay tuned for the dates for all the upcoming special events. I look forward to seeing everyone at the Club in the new year. Cheers, David M. Wilson | General Manager

TEE IT UP A NOTE FROM YOUR DIRECTOR OF GOLF

A NOTE FROM YOUR COURSE SUPERINTENDENT

Greetings ONSC Members,

I hope everyone enjoyed the holidays. It’s hard to believe another year is gone; 2024, here we come! We are in a critical period for our warm season Eagle bermuda greens. They will have to be closely monitored, and during extended cold periods, they will be covered. The main purpose of the covers is to increase the soil and canopy temperatures. On average, the covers increase the soil temperature at a 1” depth by 4 degrees. That may not sound like much, but remember that’s the soil temperature, which is much more difficult to heat than the canopy temperature. There isn’t a set low temperature that we use for putting the covers on. If the afternoon temperatures are unseasonably high or it’s only one chilly night, then the need to cover decreases. When the forecast is iffy, we will cover; better safe than sorry. My first priority is protecting the course; my second priority is making the course available to you ASAP. The driving range will likely be open when the greens are covered, so you can keep your swing dialed in. We may also be able to close 9 holes late on covering day or open 9 holes early on uncovering day. All reasonable scenarios will be on the table to get you back out there quickly. We are looking forward to providing you with a great golf course in 2024!

Happy New Year! I hope you all had a safe & relaxing holiday season. 2024 (fingers crossed), should be the first full year without COVID or construction during my tenure at ONSC. I truly believe the golf course will be the best it has been in 30 years. The Golf Team could not be more excited about the opportunity to regain our spot in the Top 5 Courses in NC! Notice Locker and Storage information We have several amenities that are often underutilized. We offer golf bag storage for $100/year. You may add a push cart for $50. Additionally, lockers are available for both Men & Ladies for $100/year. If you rent a locker & store a bag, you will receive both for a discounted $150/year. We have storage space for 40 golf bags.

Thank you again for your continued support of ONSC Golf!

RECREATIONAL NEWS A NOTE FROM YOUR DIRECTOR OF SPORTS & WELLNESS Brrr! It’s a bit chilly around the tennis and pickleball courts these days, but don’t let that stop you from playing! Most days, courts will open in the late morning or early afternoon. During our winter pattern, our clay courts periodically freeze and thaw, which causes delays or closures. You’ll receive notifications on your McConnell Golf App and the online courts dashboard with daily reports. Download the app to stay up to date. Remember to ALWAYS reserve your court online via the member website or app before coming. This helps us serve you better! As always, please reserve your court online so that we can best “serve” you!

TENNIS, PICKLEBALL & BOCCE Please use your member portal to reserve courts online. Online reservations take priority over walk-ups. This short step lets our staff know that you're coming so we can serve you better. It also helps us keep track of our facility usage. Extensive court maintenance has been completed in order to get our courts back to quality you have come to expect. There are projects still being completed, and I hope that you can see a positive difference in your playing surface. To help keep our courts in pristine condition, please wear courtspecific shoes when playing tennis and pickleball. Running shoes, while comfy, tear up our courts worse than court shoes. The bocce courts are open for play. Equipment can be checked out at the Tennis Shop during business hours or inside the Activity Center after business hours. There's now a Keurig coffee pot in the Tennis Shop. Stop by and get that last pep in your step before you step on court.

OLD NORTH STATE OF MIND

PICKLEBALL HARD COURT PROJECT IS A GO! Thanks to McConnell Golf and a group of 30+ member families, we have secured the funds to build hard courts for our Pickleball program. This project will transform our already beautiful Stadium Court into four new asphalt Pickleball courts. We will retain 2 clay Pickleball courts and reconvert one set of existing Pickleball courts back into a Tennis court, giving us a total of 4 Tennis and 6 Pickleball courts for the 2024 season. Construction is set to begin in March with an anticipated completion range of late spring to early summer. There will be temporary closures of some courts, so look out for more info soon!

NEW ONLINE TENNIS SHOP Get supreme quality clothing and accessories from all the top brands in our brand new Online Tennis Shop. You’ll find tennis and pickleball logo-wear from Lululemon, Adidas, Nike, and more! Also grab a logo towel or other accessories for the court. All items ship directly to your door! Go to https://oldnorthstatetennis.mcconnellgolf.shop/ and grab all your favorites.

MEMBERSHIP LEVELS AND GUEST PLAY POLICIES While these policies were in place when I was Tennis & Activities Manager at ONSC previously, they were relaxed during Covid to encourage outdoor activity at the club or not enforced by the previous part-time pros. Effective January 1st, each of these policies will be enforced. You must be a Sports or Full Golf member to have unlimited access to tennis and pickleball facilities. Social members, guests, or non-member Uwharrie Point residents may play up to six (6) times per calendar year and must pay a $10 guest fee each time they play. Social members have unlimited access to Bocce courts with no additional fees. Courts reserved online will take precedence over walk-ins. Check-in at the Tennis Shop before taking the court during business hours.

RECREATIONAL NEWS A NOTE FROM YOUR DOCKMASTER I hope everyone had a Happy Holiday! With temperatures at night below freezing and more cold on the way, I feel it’s safe to say boating season is behind us until this spring. With these freezing temperatures, please make sure that your boats and PWC are winterized. There’s nothing worse than getting everything ready in the spring, just to find out you have a busted engine or lower unit. So, if you have not called yet, please do so immediately so we can winterize them so no damage comes to them. Now is the perfect time to fix some issues on the boat that have plagued you during the summer. Please give us a call, and we will have the issues fixed by spring, or contact someone whocan.

As always, if you have any questions please feel free to call the marina at 336-461-4456. Thanks and have a blessed day. Dockmaster Michael Gutterson
