Happy Summer 2026!
I would like to recognize Chris Chapman and his team for their exceptional leadership in maintaining Old North State Club’s ranking as the #11 golf course in North Carolina and #8 among private clubs in the 2026 Business North Carolina rankings. I am incredibly proud of Chris and his team and the high standard of excellence they consistently deliver.
Thank you to all of our members who joined us for recent events at the Club, including Easter weekend, the Riedel Wine Seminar, and the annual Hospice Dinner in support of Tillery Compassionate Care Your participation helps make these events truly special
We are looking forward to an exciting summer season, highlighted by the Men’s 3-Day MemberGuest in June and our America 250 celebration at the lake during the first week of July Additional details will be shared in the weekly Happenings email from Sarah as each event approaches We anticipate welcoming over 500 members and their guests to these festivities
Thank you for your continued support of Old North State Club It has already been a busy year, and our team looks forward to an even more active and engaging summer. Please join me in recognizing our department heads and staff for their ongoing dedication and commitment to delivering an exceptional member experience.
I look forward to seeing you at the Club, Cheers!
As we move into late spring and early summer at Old North State Club, there is a renewed energy across the Club as longer days and warm evenings set the stage for a full calendar of memorable experiences This time of year brings a wonderful mix of energy and tradition from intimate dinners and family celebrations to larger Club experiences that highlight everything we love about this community It is always a joy to see the clubhouse filled with members enjoying meaningful moments together.
Behind the scenes, our focus remains on delivering seamless, thoughtful service and well-executed events that reflect the standard of hospitality you expect from the Club. Whether it is a curated dining experience, a holiday celebration, or a private event, our team is working diligently to ensure every detail is intentional and well cared for
As we look ahead, there are several exciting events on the calendar In May, we look forward to celebrating Mother’s Day Brunch, the David Tate Wine Dinner, and Memorial Day Weekend festivities In June, highlights include the Wine Expo and the Summer Concert Series both wonderful opportunities to gather, connect, and enjoy the season at the Club We are also pleased to share that interest in our Kids’ Summer Camps has been very strong, and availability is filling quickly We kindly encourage families to return completed registration forms as soon as possible to help ensure their child’s spot is secured.
As a reminder, reservations are especially important during our busier spring and summer months. Our reservation books have begun filling quickly, and we strongly encourage members to book in advance to ensure availability During peak service periods, guests arriving without a reservation may experience extended wait times, limited or alternate seating options, or, in some instances, may be unable to be accommodated
Reservations play a vital role in how we plan and deliver the high standard of service you expect and deserve at Old North State Club They allow our team to properly prepare for each service period ensuring appropriate staffing levels, accurate food and beverage quantities, and thoughtfully arranged seating and event setups This level of planning is essential in maintaining consistency, minimizing wait times, and providing a seamless dining experience for all members and guests. By securing reservations in advance, you directly support our ability to uphold these standards and continue delivering the elevated hospitality experience that defines the Club.
Thank you, as always, for your continued support. I look forward to seeing you this season and sharing many more memorable moments together at the Club!

As we welcome the beauty of spring, it is a pleasure to see the grounds of Old North State Club come alive with sunshine, fresh air, and renewed energy April has been a truly delightful month, filled with meaningful moments and cherished gatherings among our membership.
Our Easter celebrations were especially memorable this year. Easter Brunch was a tremendous success, and it was wonderful to see so many families and friends come together to enjoy the occasion. One of my favorite highlights of this season was our “Egg Your House” service, which brought a touch of magic and surprise to many homes The positive response was incredibly rewarding, and I am sincerely grateful for the enthusiastic support from our members A huge shout out to my little bunny fu fu’s Morgan, Savannah, and Kim!
I would also like to extend my appreciation for the thoughtful feedback I have received in recent weeks Your insights are invaluable, and I am excited to begin implementing several enhancements in the weeks ahead As part of these efforts, I am continuing to introduce more efficient ways for members to communicate and engage with the Club, including the use of QR codes and the development of streamlined online reservation options.
I look forward to sharing these updates and continuing to create exceptional experiences for you all while embracing the spirit of fun and community that makes our Club so special. Thank you for your continued support of Old North State Club. I look forward to a vibrant and memorable spring season together!
Spring is finally here, and we couldn’t be more excited By the time you’re reading this, our new menus will be rolling out, and the entire culinary crew has been hard at work bringing fresh ideas to life This is one of our favorite times of the year the season when everything starts to feel a little more vibrant, and the ingredients really begin to shine
We’re especially looking forward to working with more local products as they come into season There’s just something special about ingredients that are grown close to home, and we’re fortunate to have access to some incredible farms in our area Heirloom tomatoes are a personal favorite of mine, and we’ll be bringing in a wide variety of them Each one has its own unique flavor, color, and character, and they truly make a difference on the plate These tomatoes will be coming from a local farm in Troy, and we’re proud to showcase their quality in our dishes
In addition to sourcing locally, we’re also taking things a step further by growing some of our own herbs It’s something we’ve been wanting to do for a while, and it’s exciting to see it come together Being able to pick fresh herbs right when we need them adds another layer of flavor and care to everything we prepare
We’re also diving into more in-house production, including making our own bacon. We’ll be using Cheshire pork from Ivey Farms in Goldsboro, NC. The quality of this pork is truly exceptional raised without hormones or antibiotics, and handled with care every step of the way. It’s the kind of product that speaks for itself, and we’re excited to turn it into something special in our kitchen.

With all of that in mind, keep an eye out for our homemade bacon and heirloom tomato BLT coming soon. It’s a simple idea, but when you start with ingredients like these, it becomes something worth talking about.
As always, we appreciate your support and look forward to sharing these new flavors with you.

In the individual divisions, Ryan Tyndall (The Reserve Golf Club) won the Men's Club Championship, Caroline Ellington (Raleigh Country Club) won the Women's Club Championship, Hunter Grove (Raleigh Country Club) won the Senior/Super Senior Championship and Dalton Rich (Brook Valley Country Club) won the Professional Championship Thank you to the staff and membership at Old North State Club for their hospitality

McConnell Golf once again placed all of its North Carolina private clubs among the state’s Top 100 courses, highlighted by four clubs earning Top 25 rankings in the North Carolina Golf Panel’s 30th annual statewide rankings, published in the April issue of Business North Carolina magazine
Leading the portfolio is Greensboro’s Sedgefield Country Club, home of the PGA TOUR’s Wyndham Championship, ranked No 7 in North Carolina Old North State Club in New London followed at No 11, while Raleigh Country Club climbed to No 15 Durham’s Treyburn Country Club made one of the year’s biggest moves, jumping four spots into the Top 25 at No 25 In total, 11 McConnell Golf courses earned Top 100 recognition statewide, marking a strong year of upward momentum across the company’s North Carolina portfolio
Several Triangle-area clubs posted notable improvements. The Country Club at Wakefield Plantation in Raleigh made a significant leap, rising to No. 75 from No. 94 last year. Treyburn’s move into the Top 25 further strengthened the region’s standing among the state’s premier courses. Eastern North Carolina also saw major gains, as Wilson Country Club surged into the Top 100 at No. 84 after being unranked last year one of the largest upward moves in this year’s rankings
Other McConnell Golf properties earning Top 100 honors include:
Country Club of Asheville, ranked No 52, up two spots year-over-year
The Cardinal by Pete Dye in Greensboro, ranked No 54, continuing its steady upward trend
Porters Neck Country Club in Wilmington, improving to No 57
Providence Country Club in Charlotte, ranked No. 85.
Brook Valley Country Club in Greenville, rounding out the list at No. 100.
McConnell Golf remains the only individual golf course owner in the world to steward four Donald Ross-designed courses, including Sedgefield Country Club and Raleigh Country Club, both of which continue to rank among North Carolina’s elite layouts The 2026 North Carolina Golf Panel rankings, based on playability, design, conditioning and experience, highlight another strong year driven by continued investment in courses, facilities and member experience

How and when to split step
To follow-up on our last edition of the Tennis Tidbit called “Be Prepared,” let’s chat on what a split step is, and how and when to do it
What is it?
A split step is a gather step to get you on balance, so you can more efficiently change direction to go after a ball that’s headed your way. It can be used on ground strokes, approach shots, and volleys from any position on the court It is your first step in preparing for your next shot
How do I do it?
A common misconception of the split step is that you have to JUMP to do it It is actually more of a small gather step with one foot, then the other, to land on the balls of your feet in an athletic position. This allows you to get to the next ball quickly
When do I start my split step?
I like to tell my students as soon as you see your opponent get to their backswing, begin the process of the split step If you wait until the ball is hit to begin, you are already too late! You should already be on balance at that point so you can use that split step to burst in the direction of the ball.

We’re here to help with marina service and cleaning so you can hit the water stress-free It’s also a great opportunity to take care of any trailer repairs while your boat is in the water or parked at your house Bunks can rot, carpet can come loose, and winch straps wear down or break over time We can handle all of that and get everything in top shape for you.

As we get closer to Memorial Day, our hours of operation will expand to Tuesday through Sunday, 9 AM to 5 PM. If you have any questions or would like to schedule service or cleaning, please give the marina a call we’re happy to help
Our rental boats are already back in the water as of April 1st If you don’t have a boat but still want to enjoy a day out on the lake with family or friends, give us a call to reserve one We’ve also added a brand-new rental pontoon to the fleet this year, arriving in early May
Thanks again, and we hope you have a fantastic spring and summer out on the water!
