FROM THE KITCHEN
A MESSAGE FROM YOUR EXECUTIVE CHEF
Hello everyone,
As we ease into the heart of spring and look ahead to summer, our culinary team is excited to continue serving up vibrant flavors that match the season May and June bring longer days, warmer evenings, and the perfect opportunity to dine by the lake There’s something truly magical about this time of year at the Club, with the lake glistening in the evening sun, laughter on the terrace, and fresh, flavorful dishes coming out of our kitchen
Our kitchen is buzzing with inspiration as we refresh our menus to reflect the energy of the season featuring bright ingredients, ripe produce, seasonal herbs, and a few unexpected surprises. From crisp, colorful salads to grilled favorites with a modern twist, our offerings are designed to be as relaxing and enjoyable as a day spent by the water I was honored to contribute to this upcoming issue of the McConnell Golf Magazine. I’m looking forward to featuring the recipes from the article here at the lake We will be receiving local strawberries from Cody Strawberry Farm in Richfield and Seven Sisters Farm in Denton and utilizing some Cheshire Pork from Goldsboro or Spotted Breed Pork from Joyce Farms in Winston-Salem.
Time really flies when you’re doing what you love and for me and my team, that’s bringing great food and memorable experiences to the table. It’s incredibly rewarding to cook for such an amazing community of members and guests. We appreciate each and every one of you and look forward to making your meals at the Club something to truly savor
Thank you for your continued support. I hope to see many of you around the Club, enjoying the season’s best flavors and great company!

A MESSAGE
FROM YOUR COURSE
SUPERINTENDENT

Have you driven up to the putting green shortly after or during a rain event only to see the green being watered? I’ve received more than one call asking, “Why are the greens being watered?” Hey, I get it; it seems ridiculous, but there is a reasonable explanation. Most of us would agree that rain promotes plant health and vigor There are also other things that benefit from rain, like pythium root rot Fungicides are very effective in controlling pythium root rot and other turf diseases and are applied as a liquid using fine mist nozzles attached to a boom on a drivable sprayer When we are targeting root diseases, the fungicide must be delivered to the root zone to be effective. This is where irrigation comes into play. The main purpose of watering isn’t to wet the soil but to wash the root-targeted fungicide to the root zone where the disease is active So next time you’re at the course and see the greens being watered shortly after a rain, it’s a good bet a fungicide is being applied

See you soon, Justin Mathers, PGA Director of Golf

2025 POOL WAIVER:
As we did in 2024, we are requiring all adults (members and guests) who use the pool to sign a waiver document. This is due to our pool facilities having “Attendants” rather than “Lifeguards ” We have made this into a digital document this season Please check your emails and fill out the Google Form. You will only have to do this once. There will also be an iPad at the check-in station to complete it upon your first visit to the pool this season if you didn’t do so prior to your visit Then you will simply check-in with the attendant each visit before enjoying your fun in the sun. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation
POOL IMPROVEMENTS:
We have been sprucing up our Aquatic Center this spring and hope you’ll notice the hard work our maintenance team has put in.
UpdatesInclude:
Repaired, replaced, cleaned all tiles around family pool
Cleaning and painting of family pool deck and slide fixtures
Deep clean and painting of pool house restrooms
Pressure washing of decks, furniture, and buildings
Improved drainage
Updated signage
We look forward to fully resurfacing the family pool in the near future!

ONSC Welcomes Kati Furr as Activities Leader
We are happy to welcome Kati to the ONSC family to head up our Kids Camps for the summer She will be working directly with Chris, Skylar, and other staff members to provide an outstanding experience for our camps this season.
From Kati:
My name is Kati Furr and I am currently a Special Education teacher with Stanly County Schools I obtained my Bachelor’s Degree in Special Education at Pfeiffer University (Go Falcons) in 2013 Soon after graduating, I applied for graduate school at University of North Carolina-Wilmington and obtained a Master’s Degree in Curriculum Instruction and Supervision in 2015 I have taught in a variety of educational settings Most of my career has been in the elementary resource setting; however, I have taught at an alternative high school in Stanly County and served as an EC Self-Contained Teacher at Richfield Elementary School
I am excited to be a part of the Old North State Club team. I firmly believe in making learning fun through team building, building upon prior knowledge, and active engagement As I plan activities for summer camp, I hope to create activities that will improve team building skills, social skills, and expand your child’s or children’s knowledge in an active, engaging way.
A NOTE FROM YOUR DOCKMASTER
Old North State Marina hopes everyone is starting the new year off amazingly As we get closer to springtime and another boating season, if you need any maintenance work or repairs done to your boats or personal watercraft, please give us a call. (336-461-4456) As the weather warms up in March and April, we are looking forward to getting all the boats de-winterized and cleaned up for the first day on the water. The Old North State Marina rental boats will be back in the water for rent by April 1st. If you don’t have a boat or are thinking about purchasing one and want to test the waters, come rent one for a few hours or all day and see how you like it.
