As the golf season gets into full swing, it has already been an exciting start to the year here at the club. Phase II of our course renovation is progressing well, with completion scheduled for August 29. Beginning June 3, construction will start on the driving range. During this phase, golfers playing 18 holes will play the Stockholders Course twice, while those playing 9 holes will play holes 14–18 twice. Tee times will begin at 7:20 a.m. daily, except on Tuesdays and Thursdays when they will start at 8:40 a.m.

In April, we hosted our annual Stockholders Meeting and tournament. Congratulations to Wayne and Marvin Simpkins, Tony Withers, and Mike Williams for taking top honors with an impressive score of 59. Deborah Bunn also demonstrated her precision, winning Closest to the Pin.

Our Thursday Night Scramble season is underway and continues to grow in popularity, with 15–25 teams competing each week. It’s a fantastic opportunity to meet fellow members and enjoy friendly competition. Additional tournaments will resume following the completion of course renovations, including the Club Championship on October 3–4 and the Member-Member tournament on October 17–18 so be sure to find your partner.

We are also pleased to welcome our new Assistant Golf Professional, Sean Degnan. Many of you have already had the chance to meet him, and we’re excited to have him as part of the RGA team. Sean brings more than 20 years of hospitality experience, along with a lifelong passion for sports. A state champion tennis player at Charlotte Catholic and a part of sports history as a ball boy at the inaugural Charlotte Hornets game, Sean adds both energy and experience to our team.

Over the past two decades, he has remained deeply involved in the community, coaching youth baseball, basketball, and flag football through Raleigh Parks and Recreation. He looks forward to bringing that same passion for connection through sport, food, and shared experiences to his role at RGA.

Meet Ken and Jane Keegan, two of our newest members who have truly found their golfing home at RGA!

The couple relocated to Cary from the Atlanta suburbs in 2020 following Ken’s retirement from Kemira. After a 15-year hiatus from the sport, one of Ken’s primary retirement goals was to get back on the course, finetune his game, and connect with local players. Joining the Cary Senior League checked every box. By the end of 2020, Ken was playing regularly and established a permanent foursome with fellow members.

Jane has her own passion for the game, having first picked up a club 15 years ago. After taking a break, she also decided to return to the fairways four years ago. Just like Ken, she found the Cary Senior League to be a fantastic way to meet fellow golfers and quickly connected with a group of new friends.

Though RGA is a comfortable 25-minute drive from their West Cary home, the couple found that the club perfectly fits their lifestyle. As mid-to-high handicap players in their seventies, they appreciate that the course offers a fun, accessible, and manageable layout rather than an overwhelming course layout.

Like many of you, Ken and Jane are incredibly excited about our ongoing course renovations especially the highly anticipated driving range and practice area upgrades.
