LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT Dear Graduate, When we hear the word “commencement” this time of year, we often think of the end of a journey. And it is true that with graduation, today also marks the end of an academic process for you and for many, the conclusion of your formal academic education. And yet we call it commencement because it is also a form of beginning. The next stage of your life is full of possibilities. The degree you have earned is more than just an accolade or credential, it is also a calling to lead and to serve. Our university has long embraced its role in training future leaders who go on to serve society in countless ways. For your own contribution to this legacy, the skills, knowledge, creativity, and curiosity you developed as a Longhorn will serve you well. Today we celebrate both your individual successes and our collective accomplishments. COMMENCEMENT SPEAKER JD MOORE, MBA Managing Director, Spindletop Capital JD Moore is a Managing Director with Spindletop Capital, an Austinbased private equity firm that focuses on healthcare investments. Prior to joining Spindletop, JD served as global Head of Business Development and Strategy for a division of Johnson & Johnson, global Head of Strategy and Business Development for Medtronic Diabetes, and Head of Mergers and Acquisitions for CareFusion Corp. Prior to his executive corporate experience, he was an investment banker in New York focused on mergers and acquisitions in the healthcare services and medical device sectors with JP Morgan and Credit Suisse completing over $50B in transactions in his career. JD received an MBA from Michigan Ross School of Business and a BBA from the University of Texas at Austin. He is a member of the University of Texas Development Board and the McCombs School of Business Healthcare Innovation Advisory Council. He enjoys investing in food & beverage companies and weight and cardio training. JD is also a committed supporter of the University of Texas. Since graduation, he has established endowments with the UT Development Board, UT Men’s basketball and two endowments with the McCombs School of Business.

STUDENT SPEAKER SHIVANI PAREPALLY Canfield Business Honors Program, Finance Shivani Parepally is a senior studying Business Honors and Finance at the University of Texas at Austin. She was born in Minnesota and moved to Hyderabad, South India at nine years old, as her parents wanted her to grow up amongst their closest relatives and traditions. While living there, she trained in Indian Classical Dance, Kuchipudi, learned Indian Classical music, Sangeetham, and started a non-profit organization that taught over 500 underprivileged students dance, arts and music every week. Grateful for a scholarship from the University of Texas to the Canfield Business Honors Program, Shivani moved from Hyderabad to Austin when she was 18 years old. During her time on campus Shivani captained and choreographed for Texas Mohini, UT’s only all-female competitive Bollywood dance team. Shivani is most proud of founding Women in Wall Street for McCombs: UT’s first and only finance organization to help support, provide information and resources and encourage women to recruit investment banking. Since inception, the number of women securing investment banking offers in New York has increased over 300%. Apart from this, she has served as a peer mentor in the Canfield Business Honors Program, is a part of Titans of Investing and the Financial Analyst Program, served as head volunteer during the vaccine rollout at Gregory gym, and is most excited to end her college career on a high note as the commencement speaker of McCombs — a great privilege and honor for her. After graduation, Shivani will be heading to New York City to work as an investment banker at Financo Raymond James, specializing in Consumer & Retail Mergers and Acquisitions, a dream come true for her.
