BEHIND THE LABEL

Welcome to AB InBev’s Sneak Peek Behind the Label

“Beer is inclusive. It doesn’t matter if you’re a man or woman, young or old, poor or rich. When we sit down together to grab a beer, it’s very meaningful.” Michel Doukeris, CEO, AB InBev

Right now, all around the world, AB InBev customers are connecting over a beer. Whether it’s between old friends or complete strangers, sharing a drink is a universal invitation to share — and to be heard. A great label connects a brand with its consumers in the same way. At MCC, we’re excited about the opportunity to partner with you on creating meaningful moments. As we take you Behind the Label and share the MCC story, remember this: A great product starts with a label that communicates much more than features and benefits. MCC labels connect with people on a deep, powerful and emotional level. It advances your sustainability goals. It reflects your innovation. And it’s backed by a world-class team. Cheers to continuing the conversation.

RECENT PROJECTS WE’RE PROUD OF

Stella Artois Unfiltered – UK Introducing NOVA™ Ink The Opportunity

The Result

The journey with NOVA™ ink embellishments began in June 2021 during an AB InBev innovation meeting where we demonstrated the technology’s potential to revolutionize metallic effects in the printing industry.

NOVA™ inks delivered a richer, more vibrant finish. Impressed by the results, AB InBev UK placed their first order with MCC Label. The transparent pricing and collaborative printing not only underscored our mutual commitments to quality but also strengthened our partnership.

The distinctiveness of NOVA™ caught the attention of the audience, who were fascinated by the advanced properties and superior finish compared to standard metallic effect colors.

“NOVA™’s ability to deliver superior results have set a new standard in the industry, and we look forward to continuing to innovate and exceed our customers’ expectations.”

MCC’s Solution Our transparent approach to pricing, providing a detailed breakdown of associated costs, allowed the customer to see the cost-effectiveness of NOVA™, especially considering its long-term benefits and outstanding performance. We offered to conduct the first printing trials and print approval in the presence of the customer to show the capabilities of NOVA™ in a real-world setting.

RECENT PROJECTS WE’RE PROUD OF

Flying Fish – South Africa Enhancing With Photochromic Ink The Opportunity

The Result

Reflected in the hashtag #addsomeflavour, Flying Fish aims to make life a bit more interesting. In the spirit of that philosophy, the brand team was looking for something new and unique to enhance their existing packaging.

The metalized paper label achieved a number of benefits to Flying Fish, including:

MCC’s Solution MCC Label’s innovative portfolio included the perfect option: a photochromic label. The sunburst design changes the color of the ink when exposed to sunlight, offering a visual compliment to the Flying Fish brand.

• Creatively differentiating the brand. • Introducing a new way to interact with their customers. • Boosting brand loyalty. “With the pitch from AB InBev on this innovation, MCC Label Johannesburg rose to the challenge. Printing a clear, UV-activated ink to register presented a large learning curve, which we overcame with innovative adaptions to press. By adding active UV lighting systems, we were able to visibly monitor the Photochromatic ink during production.” Troy Cochran, Key Account Manager

RECENT PROJECTS WE’RE PROUD OF

Michelob Ultra – US Producing the 2024 Summer Olympics Commemorative Label The Opportunity

The Result

As the official beer of Team USA for the 2024 Summer Olympics, Michelob Ultra required a promotional neck label to generate awareness of their sponsorship. Not only did the label’s production need to coincide with the games, but its design also needed to align with other marketing, including television commercials, print ads, and billboards.

MCC’s close collaboration and intimate knowledge of the AB InBev systems ensured that all deadlines were met. Together, we designed and produced the label in time for the opening ceremonies.

MCC’s Solution Under a hard deadline, the MCC plant in Clarksville, Tennessee, rose to the challenge. The customer service, graphics, technical services, and production teams worked in concert to support the quick completion of this project. AB InBev partnered with graphics, planning, and procurement to ensure all files were built to their specifications, and that a plan was in place to ensure the appropriate breweries received labels in time for production.

Introduction Technology

“At MCC Clarksville, collaboration is the key to excellence. Meeting the demanding deadline to ensure inclusion in the marketing initiatives for the 2024 Summer Olympics required the dedication and expertise of our entire team—from graphics to logistics. Thanks to their commitment, we successfully delivered on this important milestone.” John Briggs, Sales Director, Beer

RECENT PROJECTS WE’RE PROUD OF

Modelo Especial Dorada 0% Alcohol – MX Crafting Excellence with AB InBev-MAZ-Modelo Mexico The Opportunity

The Result

To capitalize on the growing trend of healthier beverages and lower-alcohol, lower-carb beers, AB InBev Modelo created nonalcoholic versions of their premium Modelo Especial and Modelo Negra brands. Feedback from the initial launch in smaller markets in Mexico in February 2025 was positive, prompting a plan for a wider national rollout.

MCC worked closely with the AB InBev-MAZ-Modelo Mexico innovation, procurement, brand management and graphic design teams for the development and launch of the new labels. Featuring a unique combination of matte and glossy effects over special gold colors with the graphics referencing zero percent alcohol, the labels continue to enhance the premium image of the brands.

MCC’s Solution MCC has supplied the Modelo Especial and Negra labels for eight consecutive years. Based on the previous quality of printing by MCC for these labels, which use rotogravure printing and embossing, introducing these new stock-keeping units (SKUs) was a critical but easy step for AB InBev-MAZModelo Mexico to take.

“MCC partnered with AB InBev-MAZ-Modelo Mexico to develop a premium label that seamlessly blends tradition with innovation. Leveraging sophisticated decoration technologies, we created a design that highlights the zero percent alcohol distinction while honoring the heritage of the existing brands. This collaboration showcases our commitment to quality and brand authenticity.” Tony Estrada, Key Account Manager

Where do you want to market your product? Location matters when it comes to regulations, recycling, and supply chain security.

What is the container type and material? Your label will need to be compatible with the container, and certain combinations are more recyclable than others, for example.

What is your current label technology? Whether you stick with your existing technology (i.e. pressure sensitive) or you’re considering a switch, it’s important to understand the implications here.

What are your sustainability goals? What matters to you overall? Is it improving recyclability? Reusability? Overall carbon footprint reduction?
