As we close out the year and crown December, Ralph Waldo Emerson’s words resonate deeply: “What lies behind us, and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us.” This powerful reminder encourages us to reflect on our inner strength, resilience, and potential as we wrap up 2024 and look forward to the new year. Over November and December, we strove for Excellence in Execution, demonstrating that true success comes from the commitment, mindset, and values we hold within. The ability to face challenges, deliver impactful results, and grow has been evident in our accomplishments, rooted in our character and determination to make a difference. We also focused on Fostering Mental Health and Wellbeing, recognizing the importance of nurturing balance, self-awareness, and care for our mental health. These are vital for sustaining success and resilience as we continue our journey. In November, we celebrated International Men’s Day, honoring the men in our organization who embody excellence across generations. From the wisdom of Baby Boomers to the drive of Millennials and the innovative energy of Gen Z, their stories of mentorship, resilience, and growth inspired us all. As we reflect on this year’s achievements, let us remember that greatness isn’t just about what we’ve accomplished, but how we’ve achieved it— with care, respect, and support for ourselves and those around us. Here’s to celebrating the growth, recognition, and purpose that defined 2024 and welcoming the opportunities of the new year with confidence and strength!

A DAYIN THE LIFE! In celebration of International Men’s Day, this edition is dedicated to highlighting the exceptional men at Mixta! As part of our spotlight, we

thought it’d be fun to hear from three generations of Mixta men—Baby Boomers, Millennials, and Gen Z. We asked them some exciting and

thought-provoking questions about mentoring, motivation, and life at Mixta. Here’s what they had to say!

Ben Osita Your colleagues are often your best sources of referrals in your career.... People remember integrity, collaboration, and reliability. These qualities turn professional connections into powerful endorsements. MIXTA BUZZ

08 What has been your proudest moment in your career so far, and why? ANs: One of my proudest moments was transforming a gaming company from a small startup with 200 customers into a thriving business with over 26,000 customers and a 22,000% increase in monthly turnover within about 15 months. By navigating regulations, expanding into new markets (Ghana & Liberia), and introducing customerfocused innovations, my team and I turned challenges into opportunities for growth. Today, in real estate, I apply the same principles: identifying hidden potential, guiding strategic investments, and delivering value. Whether in gaming or real estate, my greatest pride career wise comes from creating lasting connections, delivering value and building trust. What’s the best piece of advice you’ve received at work? Who gave it to you? When you find yourself in a hole, the first thing you should do is stop digging. Mrs. Damilare Alabi (Co-founder, NairaBET). If you could give one piece of advice to the younger generation, what would it be? Your colleagues are often your best sources of referrals in your career. Building authentic relationships with them not only fosters a supportive work environment but can also open doors to future opportunities. People remember integrity,

collaboration, and reliability. These qualities turn professional connections into powerful endorsements. What are your go-to activities for recharging after a challenging day? Hanging out with my boys and having a good laugh, relaxing indoors with my family or a solo time at the beach. What do you think your generation brings to the workplace that’s unique? Ans. Adaptability to new tools and environments, tech fluency (having grown up during rapid technological advancements) and perhaps a passion for continuous learning. What’s one stereotype about your generation that you’d like to dispel? That the backaches we often feel are a result of old age. No, it’s mostly due to a sedentary lifestyle and driving long hours lol. How do you think the workplace has evolved over the years? What do you hope will change in the future? Ans:People no longer spend decades at one company. We are now seeing a shift from security to flexibility. What I hope will change would be a greater adoption of flexible work patterns that put into consideration the inefficient & expensive transportation systems. This will improve job satisfaction and work-life balance.

If you were to trade places with one colleague for a day, who would it be and why? DA. To have access to his network for that day. What’s a talent or skill you have that your coworkers might not know about? Ans: Still developing it but that would be drawing/sketching designs for male and female clothes. If you could have dinner with any famous figure, dead or alive, who would it be and why? Aigboje Aig-Imoukhuede (Chairman, Access Holdings PLC). I’d like to meet him simply because I admire his accomplishments, I believe a meeting with him can make a difference in my career and also because I see some similarities between us. Finally, How do you feel having a positive role model shape the experience of a boy child? Ans. It’s everything. If there are no role models/ mentors, the boy child would learn & model just about anything/anyone and that can change his life’s trajectory for good or bad. Social media has amplified this today. Accessible role models (in-person or via their books) make the most impact as they can guide the boy child through various stages of his life. I strongly encourage men 30 and above to find a boy child around them to mentor. They are our nation’s future and our future son-in-law’s. DECEMBER 2024

09 What has been your proudest moment in your career so far, and why? Finishing and Handing over a whole Project; Obudu. The sense of accomplishment after completion that came after hours of effort. What’s the best piece of advice you’ve received at work? Who gave it to you? “Always do your best within your power.” - Adewale Wahab. What advice would you give the older generation about working with your peers? The path to solutions is most likely going to be unconventional and uncharted if the common path is “clear”. Be open to innovative changes. What are your go-to activities for recharging after a challenging day? ⁠It would be to do an activity, either play a sport, or go to the gym, or go to the comedy club or just to eat and sleep. What do you think your generation brings to the workplace that’s unique? ⁠Innovation, finding faster and easier ways to doing things. What’s one stereotype about your generation that you’d like to dispel? That they’re lazy. Which I beg to differ cause you find answers/ solutions to long tasks in shorter periods meaning they have more time to handle other things. MIXTA BUZZ

Ultimately, I think the

workplace

of the future will prioritise not just

operational efficiency

but also the wholistic

growth of

employees. How do you think the workplace has evolved over the years? What do you hope will change in the future? The gradual adaptation of the use of technology; BIM, drones for surveys and apps for project management, which is revolutionising processing data

and making it more efficient and data-driven. I hope in the future, there’s a greater adoption of cuttingedge technology like Robotics to further enhance productivity on site. Ultimately, I think the workplace of the future will prioritise not just operational efficiency but also the wholistic growth of employees. If you were to trade places with one colleague for a day, who would it be and why? DA. To see what his dayto-day is like, the calibre of conversation and thought processes that he’d have to go through in a day to keep this grand vision going. What’s a talent or skill you have that your coworkers might not know about? I have an artistic side; expressing it in form of painting, editing pictures and videos as wells as photography. If you could have dinner with any famous figure, dead or alive, who would it be and why? ⁠Kobe Bryant. He was known to have “the Dog in Him”. Very resilient and hard working, discussing mindsets with him would be very intriguing. Finally, How do you feel having a positive role model shape the experience of a boy child? Having positive figure is one of the best things cause the boy child would be able to pick up the right traits to tackle the trials of life.
