By the way, how’s your summer treating you? We hope it’s been nothing short of fantastic!

In this edition, we turn our focus to a vital aspect of professional and personal growth—character. Inspired by Peter Schutz’s famous quote, “Hire Character. Train Skill,” we present some practical tips to help you build character each and every day.

Being a person of character begins with keeping your promises. Whether it’s a commitment to a colleague or a personal vow, being known as a promise-keeper is a foundation for trust and reliability. Alongside this, consistency in your dealings with others solidifies your reputation as someone dependable and fair.

It’s also crucial to regularly audit your decisions. Reflecting on your choices ensures they align with your values and ethical standards, making integrity a daily practice. When engaging in tough conversations, approach them with empathy. This balance of honesty and understanding strengthens relationships and fosters a supportive work environment.

Nurturing meaningful relationships, especially through challenging times, shows the depth of your commitment to others. Equally important is exhibiting humility in moments

of achievement. Recognizing the contributions of others and staying grounded in success enhances your character.

Character shines the brightest when tested. Being nice when everything tempts you not to be is a true mark of strength. Similarly, resilience in the face of adversity—always getting up and striving to create something better—demonstrates perseverance and dedication.

The 16th Annual General Meeting of Mixta Real Estate Plc

Mixta Real Estate Plc held its 16th Annual General Meeting on Thursday, 1st August 2024, at the Civic Centre, Ozumba Mbadiwe Road, Victoria Island, Lagos State. Despite the uncertainties associated with the #EndBadGovernance protests, which coincided with the date of the AGM, the event was held successfully to the delight of all stakeholders.

For context: an AGM is a meeting of the shareholders of a Company, which all companies (with more than one shareholder) are required to hold annually (or within 15 months of the last meeting).

These meetings provide an opportunity for shareholders to interact with the Directors of the Company, review the Company’s financial performance for the preceding year, elect new directors or re-elect existing directors, elect members of the statutory audit committee, re-elect the external auditors and also undertake any special business requiring the approval of the shareholders

As a public company with many shareholders, Mixta convenes an AGM every year.

For the 16th AGM, highlights of the event included the presentation of the Company’s Annual Report for the 2023 Financial Year which featured the audited financial statements, the corporate governance framework, and the company’s inaugural sustainability report.

Shareholders also noted the retirement of Mr. Sadiq Mohammed, who had served in various capacities within the ARM Group for a remarkable 28 years, and as a NonExecutive Director on the Board of Mixta Real Estate Plc; and approved the appointment of Mr. Wale Odutola in his place, as well as the appointment of three (3) new directors and representatives of our new strategic partner, Access Bank, on the Board.

It was an engaging event, as shareholders had the opportunity to engage with the Board and Senior Management regarding the company’s performance, as well as its direction and vision for the future.

Commencement of H2 2024 Performance Management Cycle

Congratulations to all on the successful completion of the 2024 H1 Performance Appraisal. It’s now time for the H2 2024 goal setting. This part of the performance management period presents a valuable opportunity for all employees and managers to set goals that fosters both individual and organizational growth. We urge line managers to participate in continuous performance discussions to stay aligned and motivated, track and review progress to ensure goals are being met effectively and offer timely support and direction to optimize performance.

Important Update Cancellation of work from home policy

This is no longer news but let’s refresh. Effective September 1, 2024, we returned to a full on site work arrangement with work resuming daily at 8am and closing at 5pm. This is to ensure that all hands are on deck in light of several major projects which the company is set to embark on in the coming months. We appreciate your continued dedication.
