MIAMI

A MESSAGE FROM POLICE CHIEF WAYNE A. JONES

THE CHIEF'S CORNER

My Dearest MBPD,

As we continue through one of the busiest periods in our City's history, I want to begin by thanking each of you for your professionalism and resilience.

I know these past several weeks have required long hours and personal sacrifice, and I want you to know your commitment has not gone unnoticed. Because of your efforts, Miami Beach has safely welcomed visitors from around the world while continuing to provide the exceptional service our residents, businesses, and guests expect

As we move through the remainder of the summer, I'd simply ask that we remain focused on two things that make a difference every day: high visibility and quality of life enforcement.

Whenever you're not handling calls for service and have the opportunity, take a few extra moments to get out of the car. Walk our business districts, neighborhoods, parks, and public spaces. Say hello to a resident, check in with a business owner, or spend a few minutes with a visitor Those conversations build trust, strengthen relationships, and remind our community that we're present, engaged, and approachable.

I'd also ask that we continue addressing the quality- of-life issues that matter most to our residents. Whether it's enforcing City ordinances, including our camping ordinance, or resolving concerns before they become larger problems, your work directly impacts the experience people have in our city. When those efforts aren't successful and violations continue, don't hesitate to take the appropriate enforcement action. As always, let professionalism, fairness, and compassion guide every interaction

Thank you again for your extraordinary commitment and dedication. I'm proud to serve alongside each of you, and I know we'll continue representing MBPD with the professionalism and excellence that define this organization

Thank you again for your extraordinary commitment and dedication. I'm proud to serve alongside each of you, and I know we'll continue representing MBPD with the professionalism and excellence that define this organization.

WE COULDN'T DO IT WITHOUT YOU

As excitement surrounding the FIFA World Cup 2026 continues to build this July, the Miami Beach Police Department remains at the heart of the action, supporting watch parties, fan festivals, and community celebrations across our city Behind every successful event is a dedicated team of professionals working together to ensure residents and visitors alike can enjoy the excitement safely.

These deployments represent far more than a visible police presence. They reflect a true allhands-on-deck effort across the department. From officers providing high-visibility patrols and managing traffic to dispatchers, professional staff, and specialized units coordinating operations behind the scenes, every member of #YourMBPD plays a vital role in delivering a safe, welcoming, and memorable experience.

As Miami Beach welcomes fans from around the world, each interaction becomes an opportunity to demonstrate the professionalism, hospitality, and service that define our department. These operations showcase not only our operational readiness, but also our unwavering commitment to the community we proudly serve

To every member of the Miami Beach Police Department, thank you. Your long hours, flexibility, teamwork, and dedication have been instrumental to the success of every FIFA deployment. Your commitment continues to set the standard as we prepare for the exciting weeks still ahead.

Together, we are doing more than supporting one of the world's largest sporting events, we are showcasing the very best of Miami Beach and the extraordinary people who serve it each and every day.

COMMUNITY MATTERS

UNITED IN SERVICE THROUGH OUTREACH

The Miami Beach Police Department has launched a 30-day Joint Enforcement Action Plan, bringing together the Homeless Resource Unit, Community Outreach Team, patrol officers, specialized units, and City of Miami Beach outreach personnel in a coordinated, department-wide effort to address homelessness through a balanced approach of enforcement and compassionate outreach

During dedicated deployments at 6 a m and 10 p m , teams conduct proactive area checks, connect individuals experiencing homelessness with available services, and address quality-of-life concerns across the city Working alongside City outreach case managers, officers help ensure those in need are offered resources while maintaining safe, clean, and welcoming public spaces for residents, businesses, and visitors

The initiative reflects the Miami Beach Police Department's commitment to public safety through collaboration, professionalism, and service By pairing enforcement with meaningful outreach, MBPD and its city partners are addressing immediate community concerns while creating opportunities to connect vulnerable individuals with available support

COMMUNITY REVIEWS

Dear City Officials,

The North Beach July 4th celebration was excellent. It was a great opportunity to bring both neighbors and visitors together.

The entertainment drew a nice crowd, and the fireworks were both safe and fun. The drone show was super cool, and gets better every year as the technology progresses. Free bottled water was also a smart touch.

I was especially happy to see MBPD and MBFD on-site at the event. It not only makes us feel safe, but it gives us a chance to say "thank you" to the people who serve our own little part of America. Their presence makes a difference.

On the walk home to the Sterling, I noticed that everyyyyy restaurant was full, and some had a line out the door. (Burgers and Shakes, Sazon, and Manolo's looked ready for an IPO...) Great for business!

I know most of what you hear are complaints, but here is a small thank you all for the work you do. Happy 250th.

CALM UNDER PRESSURE:

DISPATCHER

PLAYS

CRITICAL ROLE DURING OFFICER EMERGENCY

PUBLIC SAFETY COMMUNICATIONS DIVISION

On Wednesday, June 17, 2026, Dispatcher Bryan Zavala, with the support of Stacy Henry, Rachel Major, and Justino Rodriguez, demonstrated exceptional professionalism and teamwork while responding to an "Officer Down" emergency during the afternoon shift.

Without hesitation, Zavala immediately alerted officers citywide, activated the appropriate Symphony Console alert, assigned responding units, managed radio traffic, and proactively established supervisory command

Throughout the approximately 11-minute incident, he coordinated police units and traffic posts to facilitate the injured officer's rapid transport to Ryder Trauma Center.

Drawing upon his extensive knowledge of the city's roadways, CAD mapping, and radio operations, Zavala independently assigned officers to critical intersections, ensuring the transport route remained clear and efficient. During the incident, he also identified a separate City of Miami explosive threat that had closed multiple roadways, allowing command staff to adjust the transport route and avoid potential delays.

Working seamlessly alongside Stacy Henry, Rachel Major, and Justino Rodriguez, the communications team coordinated with the City of Miami, the Miami Beach on-scene commander, and the Florida Highway Patrol over the Intercity frequency to ensure uninterrupted communication and support throughout the emergency response.

The team's ability to manage multiple systems simultaneously, maintain exceptional situational awareness, communicate effectively, and remain calm under immense pressure played a vital role in the successful outcome of this critical incident. Their outstanding performance reflects the dedication, professionalism, and commitment to excellence that define the Public Safety Communications Division and the Miami Beach Police Department
