PARKINSON'S EXERCISE GROUP - Mondays 11:30am-12:45pm (Sunset Room) This group is for you if: You have been diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease You are interested in learning Parkinson’s specific exercises in a small group with others who have Parkinson’s You are interested in informal discussions about topics that are related to Parkinson’s Disease If there are topics you would like to learn about, let me know and I will research and share with the group the following week. If you are interested in learning about local resources and events

My name is Jennifer and I was diagnosed with YOPD in 2015. I do believe that “Exercise is Medicine” but have grown weary of driving to other parts of LA for Parkinson’s specific exercise groups. I am not formally trained, but am sharing what works for me and what I have learned while attending classes. My goal in starting this group was to meet others in the Manhattan Beach area and hopefully form a group of PWP (People with Parkinson’s) who meet weekly to exercise, share information, and learn strategies for navigating life with Parkinson’s. Class Details: exercises can be performed seated in a chair or standing, combo of endurance, strength, flexibility, cognition and balance. Wear comfortable clothese and supportive shoes, bring a water bottle. If you need the assistance of a caregiver to assist you with exercises, your caregiver may attend the exercise part of class. This group is not for: Caregivers only, you must accompany a PWP People who do not have Parkinson’s (exercise is good for everyone, but this group is designed specifically for PWP to ensure a space for all to feel safe and free to discuss sensitive topics relating to Parkinson’s)

POEMS FROM THE POETRY CIRCLE The Straight of Vermouth by Bonnie Hiller Schumann My friend Vivien’s birthday is on the same day as Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Her death day was not long after the start of Trump’s war on Iran. She was a World War II baby, as was I. Born during a war and died during a war. Vivien and I talked about the latest war. When I first heard about the Strait of Hormuz, what I heard was “The straight of Vermouth”. We both laughed about it and agreed that what the situation needed was a shot of straight Vermouth. Other than that, we saw no end to the craziness of it all. Recently I heard an old Elton John song and heard it as “I Guess That’s Why They Call It Vermouth”. 14

Even though she’s gone, Vivien and I laughed about that, too.
