National parks offer extraordinary experiences; it’s not always possible to get to a park. Take a virtual tour with us and see the glory, hear nature sounds, discuss the journey.

Located on the Hawaiian island of Maui. It’s home to the dormant Haleakalā Volcano and endangered Hawaiian geese.

The Haleakala Crater is one of the most popular tourist destinations on Maui, and for a good reason – the views are amazing! The Leleiwi and Kalahaku overlooks on the steep Crater Road have views across the West Maui Mountains. Rugged trails in the Summit District pass cinder cones and lava flows. The drive up to the main overlook is definitely worth it!

There is more though, The Hana Highway is a 64.4-mile-long stretch that hugs the coastline of Maui which connects Kahului to the town of Hana in east Maui. There you can see the coastal area of Kīpahulu and the Pools of Ohe’o, freshwater pools and waterfalls set amid the second most famous bamboo forest in the world.

Come Join us! Feel free to bring snacks, watch the presentation, explore its history, people, and soak up this unique landscape. There will be a discussion to follow.

DON'T COOK NAKED

Bonnie Hiller Schumann

14
I was heated, cuddled, and coddled
Simmered and sizzled
That was before I walked into the kitchen. Naked.
At the stove I was spattered and frizzled Seared and griddled. Don’t cook naked.

MAYA: The Exhibition

The California Science Center proudly presents Maya: The Exhibition, featuring over 250 authentic artifacts—many on tour outside of Guatemala for the first time— highlighting the ancient Maya civilization of Mexico and Central America. Enhance your experience by seeing the IMAX movie Mystery of the Maya and join an archaeologist and young Maya descendant as they unlock the secrets of the past. Marvel at a majestic 9-foot-long sculpture of a jaguar warrior and gaze into a magnificent mask made of obsidian and jade. Through priceless artifacts and hands-on exhibits, discover how the ancient Maya built and sustained complex cities in the heart of the rainforest.

With roots extending back 3,000 years, learn how the Maya live on today—in their inventions that continue to shape our daily lives and the millions of people who carry on the Maya tradition in language and lineage. No flash photography, selfie sticks, no big bags, no outside food allowed.
