OLDER ADULT PROGRAM VOLUNTEER OF THE YEAR

https://bchd-org.zoom. us/j/87651635014 FREE

https://citymbinfo.zoom. us/j/92536852582 FREE

Every May, the County of Los Angeles celebrates Older Americans Month. During this month, the nation unites to acknowledge the invaluable wisdom, experience, and insights that older adults share with their families, loved ones, and society. Older Americans Month serves as a reminder to celebrate the diverse perspectives and accomplishments of older adults, while also promoting their well-being, health, and quality of life. Through events, activities, and Countywide initiatives, Older Americans Month encourages intergenerational connections and ensures that older adults continue to lead independent, fulfilling, and active lives. This year’s event theme is "Flip the Script on Aging", which focuses on transforming how society perceives, talks about, and approaches aging. This event serves to identify older adult community members and to recognize them for their dedication and contributions to our communities. Our Older Adult Program Volunteer for 2025 is Barbara Landon. Barb has been a volunteer for over 10 years. She was president of the Manhattan Heights Senior Club until it dissolved in 2020. She is currently the secretary for the Senior Club and runs BINGO for the JCC and for the Manhattan Beach Friendship Foundation. Each month, she joins other volunteers to stuff and mail 1100 newsletters. Barb always raises her hand to help and is a valuable member of our JCC community.

Barb is also the President of the South Bay Epipylum Society. Epis are a type of succulent that blooms once a year in the spring and only blooms for a few days. Her club meets monthly from May through December.

Barb will be honored at the LA County Older Americans Recognition Day (OARD) in May.
