HAVE A SAY IN DOWNTOWN MANHATTAN BEACH'S FUTURE
The City of Manhattan Beach is bringing the planning process to you — and your input could help shape two key sites in the heart of downtown:
1155 Morningside Drive (Parking Lot 3)
400 Manhattan Beach Boulevard (former U.S. Bank building)
Since the fall, the City has been collecting community input on potential future uses, and City Council has been narrowing down the list for both properties. The City will be hosting a pair of free community design workshops during the last weekend in May, open to all residents and community members. No registration is required — simply drop in at either session and share your vision for these sites.
• WORKSHOP 1 — Saturday, May 30 · 2:00 PM–5:00 PM
• WORKSHOP 2 — Sunday, May 31 · 11:00 AM –2:00 PM Joslyn Community Center · 1601 North Valley Drive, Manhattan Beach
Light refreshments will be provided, and all are welcome!

The free public course took place at the Police/Fire Community Room (400 15th Street) from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Attendees got an in-depth look at updates to Title 24, Part 6 — the state's residential energy code — with a focus on single-family buildings. For those who missed it, more information about the course content is available at manhattanbeach.gov/ECAFactSheet.
The City of Manhattan Beach and the Manhattan Beach Chamber of Commerce held the first ever Business License Tax Forum on Thursday, April 23, 2026 at 12:00 pm in the City Council Chambers and via Zoom. Approximately 68 community members attended the Forum with 53 attending on Zoom and 15 attending in-person.
The purpose of the Forum was to share information and engage the business community regarding the City's Business License Tax Modernization Plan and potential changes to the City’s Business Licensing program.
This meeting also included a presentation on the City’s Business License Tax structure and explored alternative tax structures/models that aim to clarify, simplify, and modernize the tax code, enhance fairness and equity and maintain fiscal sustainability for the City.
Throughout the Forum, community members were able to participate in real-time polling regarding the type of tax structure and gross receipts category their business falls under. Towards the end of the Forum, all attendees had an opportunity for Public Comment/Q&A and the meeting concluded with attendees voting on which Tax Model they prefer.

SPONSORED BY THE VASQUEZ FAMILY AND MANHATTAN BEACH POLICE
The Manhattan Beach Police Officers’ Association, in partnership with the American Red Cross and family of Manhattan Beach Police Officer Mark Vasquez, present the 15th Annual Mark Vasquez Memorial Event Blood Drive. This year’s event will take place on Friday, May 22, 2026, from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM at the Joslyn Center (1601 North Valley Drive, Manhattan Beach, CA 90266).
Mark Vasquez joined the Manhattan Beach Police Department in 2005 and worked in patrol until he was diagnosed with a type of blood cancer, Multiple Myeloma, in 2007. Officer Vasquez was heroic in his positive outlook not only at work, but at home with his wife, Lee, and their two daughters, Madison and Ashley. Officer Vasquez’ battle against his cancer was valiant and at times, when he was able to return to work, he said he felt like Superman. His fellow officers quickly nicknamed Officer Vasquez “Superman” and held many fundraisers and events in support of their hero. However, the Manhattan Beach Police Department lost their Superman on May 15, 2011 (National Peace Officers’ Memorial Day).

4. HERE'S EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW.
Something new is coming to the City this summer — and it only costs $5 ($2.50 for older adults ages 55+) per person per ride.
On April 7, the Manhattan Beach City Council approved Wave Rider, a sixmonth on-demand electric microtransit pilot program bringing affordable, appbased rides to every neighborhood in the City. Operated by Circuit Transit, Inc., Wave Rider launches June 4, 2026.
Unlike a traditional shuttle or bus, Wave Rider has no fixed routes, stops, or schedules. It works like this: open the Circuit app, request a pickup at your location, and a driver takes you directly to your destination — anywhere within Manhattan Beach City limits, or all the way to the Metro K Line's Douglas Station in El Segundo.
• Flat fare: $5 ($2.50 for older adults ages 55+) per person, per ride. Fleet: 5 electric vehicles (including a wheelchair-accessible van)
HOURS:
Monday to Thursday: 11AM to 9PM Friday and Saturday: 11AM to 10PM
• Sunday: 12PM to 8PM
Manhattan Beach City Limits plus Metro K Line connection at Douglas Station
1. Download the Circuit app on iOS or Android at ridecircuit.com
2. Request your ride — enter any destination in the City, no fixed stops or schedules
3. A driver comes to you — door to door, for $5 ($2.50 for older adults ages 55+) per person per ride
With the FIFA World Cup coming to SoFi Stadium beginning June 4, the MB Wave Rider will also give visitors a convenient
way to reach Manhattan Beach from the Metro line — reducing parking demand during one of the busiest summers the City has ever seen.
Download the Circuit app now so you're ready to ride the wave on launch day, June 4, 2026.

Immerse yourself in the art of painting through this introductory course guided by accomplished artist and professor, Edgar Silva. Students will explore the complexity of painting through direct observation of a still life. Focusing on value and color relationships, this class will walk you through a monochromatic palette, a limited palette, and finally a full palette. Through this process, you will learn how the function of light dictates the color relationships we see on the form. Finally, students will work from their own inspiration, providing photo references to paint as a final project. ***Supplies are not included. Supply list is available online.

This class begins with stretching followed by mindfulness for 20 minutes. Stretching is vital as it lengthens and elongates muscles, improving flexibility and elasticity. Stretching has many benefits, including improving posture, decreasing back pain, and preventing injury. Our mindfulness portion will allow us to drop down into stillness with an emphasis on breath and presence. Mindful awareness adds insight to our overall existence. The practice increases vitality, encourages health and wellness, decreases stress, promotes inner peace and calm, and has even been proven to reduce blood pressure and boost immune function. This combination of stretching and mindfulness practice will leave you feeling relaxed, calm, and serene.
