MB NEWS MAYOR SECTION
BRIGHTER DAYS AHEAD Dear Manhattan Beach, Our long “winter” of COVID-19 is nearing the end. COVID-19 rates statewide continue to plummet and vaccine rates continue to climb. At long last, spring has sprung! We’re thrilled to report that our Parks and Recreations Department once again is scheduling in-person classes, activities, and sports. Things of course may look a bit different this year. The City will be required to abide by the health protocols established by the State of California and County of Los Angeles. Social distancing, indoor masks, and continued hand-washing will be with us for a bit longer. All this is worth it to preserve our gains and return to a life more like what we had before the pandemic hit one year ago. We learned during the pandemic that we can improve our overall health by maintaining our physical and mental health. “Parks Make Life Better,” so we’d love to help build better health through our wonderful P&R program.
BUDGET SECTION BUDGET PROCESS AND OPPORTUNITIES FOR COMMUNITY INPUT The City will soon be discussing the Fiscal Year 20212022 Annual Budget and welcomes the community’s input and involvement. Earlier this year, the City issued a budget survey asking for resident input on what matters most to the community. Specifically, we obtained YOUR budget priorities and important areas the City should invest in the upcoming year. The City received 868 responses and continues to solicit input by informing the community of budget discussion opportunities and dedicating an email address (budget@citymb.info) for the community to communicate budget priorities to staff. The budget discussion schedule, is as follows: • Tuesday, May 11 - 6 PM City Council Meeting Budget Study Session 6 PM • Tuesday, May 18 - 6 PM Regular City Council Meeting • Tuesday, May 25 - 6 PM (if needed) City Council Meeting Budget Study Session
Commenting opportunities of each meeting will be listed on the City’s website (www.citymb.info) in the calendar section. The City looks forward to hearing your input!
MB V. HATE CAMPAIGN On November 17, 2020, the City Council declared the Week of November 30 - December 6, 2020, as United Against Hate Week. Since then, the City has been posting various messages on social media with the tagline, “Manhattan Beach vs. Hate” and partnering with community organizations united against hate. With the recent rise of hate against Asian Americans, Manhattan Beach families have stood in solidarity with our Asian American and Pacific Islander Community by writing messages of support in their driveway, on the street or by hanging signs in their windows and yard. The City of Manhattan Beach stands united against hate, embraces the rich culture of our diverse community, and acknowledges the challenges they continue to face.

With brighter days ahead, I’m looking forward to seeing YOU around town; on a ball field, tennis court, or playground; or in a summer class, pool, or activity!
CITY OF MANHATTAN BEACH
Sincerely, Mayor Suzanne Hadley

COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT QUARTERLY UPDATE SUSTAINABLE MB • The City is planning a beach dune restoration project, which will be implemented in fall 2021. This living shoreline project focuses on enhancing and restoring the three acres of existing dunes between 23rd to 36th Streets and is fully grant-funded.
The City has issued 28 street dining permits and 25 sidewalk dining permits that have a combined outdoor dining capacity of over 980 seats. There are two "scramble" crosswalks on Manhattan Beach Boulevard at Manhattan and Highland Avenues.
