MB LAUNCHES LYFT PILOT PROGORAM FOR SENIOR MEDICAL TRANSPORTATION

Beginning Monday, June 1, 2026, the City of Manhattan Beach will launch a pilot program using Lyft to supplement the City’s Dial-A-Ride service for senior residents traveling to medical appointments.

The program is available to Manhattan Beach residents age 55 and older who have a working cell phone and know how to use it. Participants may schedule up to 8 one-way rides, or 4 round trips, per month at no cost during the pilot program.

Lyft rides are limited to medical appointments outside Manhattan Beach, including approved locations in El Segundo, Redondo Beach, and most areas of Torrance, including east of Crenshaw Blvd. but not beyond Western Ave.

Riders must schedule trips at least 1-2 days in advance. Passengers using mobility devices such as canes, walkers, electric scooters, or wheelchairs should schedule rides 3–4 days in advance so an appropriate vehicle can be located and reserved.

Riders may also bring one guest or personal care assistant at no additional charge if assistance is needed beyond curbside drop-off.

Service is available Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

For more information or to schedule a ride, contact the Dial-A-Ride office at (310) 545-3500.

DAYLE'S 100TH ADVANCED IPHONE CLASS

Congratulations to Dayle Eisenhauer on an incredible milestone — teaching her 100th Advanced iPhone class at the Joslyn Community Center! For more than 10 years, Dayle has generously shared her knowledge by leading both Beginner and Advanced iPhone classes, helping countless community members feel more confident and connected through technology.

In addition to her classes at Joslyn, Dayle has partnered with the Apple Store in Manhattan Beach to bring even more learning opportunities to our community, covering topics such as the Passwords app, Notes app, photography, and more. Her dedication, patience, and enthusiasm have made a lasting impact on so many lives.

Dayle is truly an amazing volunteer and member of the Senior Advisory Committee, and we are so grateful for all she does. Thank you, Dayle, for your continued commitment to lifelong learning and community service!

COMEDY IMPROV SHOWCASE

Doris Usui and Sandy Marchese of April’s Fools Comedy Improv Troupe started teaching improv in Manhattan Beach in 2008; a Parks and Recreation program that has been going strong for 18 years. In 2018, Rick Ramirez joined as an improv teacher and Sandy retired from teaching. Doris and Rick are both professional actors as well as being active in the South Bay improv community performing and directing shows.

There were twenty one students performing in the May 16 Spring Showcase along with a professional keyboardist. These students were from both of the improv adult classes; performers whose ages were up to 90.

POEMS FROM THE POETRY CIRCLE

Thoughtless Winds by Doug Wheeler

Intrinsic doltish breaths bow the tamarack and dry heaven’s tears

Dauntless drafts billow spinnakers yet stray the winged

Veering flows lament the fearful while lulling the wakeful

What exhilarates the coals appeases the parched

Zephyrs cast the seeds yet erode the loam

Preoccupied currents are impartial favoring neither virtue nor plague

Only honesty.
