Joslyn Community Center Activities
La County Older Americans Month Volunteer Recognition

For the past 57 years the President, the Governor and the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors have designated the month of May as Older Americans Recognition Month. As part of this the Los Angeles County Commission for Older Adults and the Department of Againg and Disabilities ask senior centers/programs throughout the County to nominate an older adult from their community to be honored at an Annual Older Americans Recognition Event. The honorees are recognized for their dedication to community service especially as the service relates to the theme of the year's Older Americans month. The theme of the 2023 Older Americans Month is "Aging Unbound".
Jean Steinmetz is OAP's 2023 nominee. Jean is the President of the Manhattan Beach Senior Citizen Club and is very involved in activities at the Joslyn Community Center. She helps run the Club's bingo and white elephant sales. She is a member of the Senior Advisory Committee and has attended SAC meetings for five years. Jean organizes several games in OASIS and consistently encourages older adults to stay active and involved. Additionally, Jean volunteers at her church and is on the Board of Exceptional Kids Organization in the South Bay. We celebrated Jean at an "Aging Unbound" viewing party on May 25, 2023.

Thanks Jean!
