Thank you to everyone who participated in the Senior Advisory Survey. Your input was very valuable. A detailed summation of the results will be available in every room of the Joslyn Community Center and in the main office. Instructors will be given their individual results as well. Overall the satisfaction level was very high. "The level of satisfaction amongst those participating in the programs offered by OAP is astoundingly high with 74% rating the programs as “outstanding” and 16% rating “Exceeds Expectation” for a total of 90%. Not one person rated any program as unacceptable and only 2% stated that a class needed improvement." Staff and SAC will use this information to continue to provide quality activities and programs for older adults in Manhattan Beach.

Community Programs STAIRCASE REPLACEMENT, PART OF THE PIER RAILING REPLACEMENT PROJECT

On January 16th, the City’s contractor began replacing the north and south staircases at the base of the entrance of the Manhattan Beach Pier as part of the larger Pier Railings Replacement Project. Originally constructed in 1991, the stairs have now exceeded the useful life. The project entails the removal of the existing wooden staircases, steel pipe hand railing, and concrete foundations. New marine grade, treated timber staircases will be constructed in similar design to maintain the character-defining feature of the Pier. The Pier will remain open to the public, and the work will take place on the beach area below the base of the Pier (the stairs have been closed for at least the last month due to safety concerns). The contractor will use a portion of the lower north side Pier parking lot to stage material and equipment. The reconstruction of both staircases is scheduled to be completed by the end of February 2024. For more information on the Pier Railing Replacement Project, please visit www.manhattanbeach.gov/PierRailing
