PRESENTATION
L.A. Found is a countywide program that helps families and caregivers of individuals diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, dementia, autism, or other cognitive, intellectual, and developmental disabilities who are prone to wandering. Initially championed by the Fourth and Fifth Supervisorial Districts, the program is supported by the Board of Supervisors, in its commitment to keep individuals with cognitive impairments safe. A key component of the program is the Project Lifesaver bracelet program, a voluntary system of trackable devices that can be provided free of charge to ambulatory individuals to help locate them when they wander. The effort is an ambitious undertaking by the County of Los Angeles, requiring collaboration from the Aging & Disabilities Department and the Los Angeles County Sherriff’s Department, who assists in the search and rescue of Project Lifesaver program participants when they wander.
Sheriff’s Department Mental Health Evaluation Team (MET), can be deployed to assist with the search and work with the family of the missing individual to proactively look for the patient. Emergency coordination of services can be performed, even if the individual lives in a city with an independent law enforcement agency. To learn more about L.A. Found and the Project Lifesaver bracelet program, please join us on:

Travel Series
National Parks with Jackie
National parks offer extraordinary experiences; it’s not always possible to get to a park. Take a virtual tour with us and see the glory, hear nature sounds, discuss the journey.
When Theodore Roosevelt came to Dakota Territory to hunt bison in 1883, he was a skinny, young, spectacled dude from New York. He could not have imagined how his adventure in this remote and unfamiliar place would forever alter the course of the nation.
Set in the colorful canyons of the western North Dakota Badlands is a national park that deserves to be on your travel list. Without the crowds and waiting lines common to some parks, it’s easy to discover a sense of freedom at Theodore Roosevelt National Park. Park trails and drives take you to scenic vistas with stunning views of the Painted Canyon and the Little Missouri River, a petrified forest and open range populated by bison, horses, elk, prairie dogs, and other wildlife.
Come join us! Feel free to bring snacks, watch the presentation, explore its history, people and soak up this unique landscape. After, we can discuss this beautiful National Park.

DEL MAR THOROUGHBRED HORSE RACES
Let's go to where the “surf meets the turf” at exciting Del Mar Race Track! It was back in the summer of 1937 when Bing Crosby and his Hollywood pals put the finishing touches on their getaway spot down by the sea. And it hardly took any time at all for a tradition to be born and carried on, one that, to this day, echoes the relaxed idea that “nobody’s in a hurry but the horses.” In 1993, the track unveiled its fully completed $80 million reconstruction, a bit of work that allowed the past to linger among modern day amenities. The tour includes roundtrip deluxe motorcoach transportation, lunch on your own at the racetrack, and admission to the clubhouse at the Del Mar Thoroughbred Races. The clubhouse is shaded and cool. This would be a great trip for you and a group of friends!
When: Thursday, August 24
