“DESIGN CREATES CULTURE. CULTURE CREATES VALUE. VALUES DETERMINE THE FUTURE -ROBERT L. PETERS

I discovered my creative passion for design at a very young. I would spend my childhood drawing portraits, designing buildings and creating floor plans on video games and computer software programs. I have always had a very strong fascination with geometry and interior architecture that led me to pursue a career in Interior Design. Each project I have completed in my program has provided me with an immense skill set of both creative and technical skills that enable me to take on new challenges and create design solutions. I strongly believe in the power of design through lived environments, as designers hold the power to shape everyday surroundings. I hope to utilize the new skills I have acquired through my education and apply these to my future career while expanding my technical knowledge and creative passion.

SILA Restaurant & bar

SPRING 2016 STUDIO 4 INDIVIDUAL PROJECT PROGRAMS USED: AutoCAD Revit Photoshop

CONCEPT Based in Marrakesh, Morocco, the restaurant “SILA” meaning “connection” in Arabic, will aim to connect all users of the space together through elements of reflection in interior layout and materials. Reflection transfers elements perpendicularly through a plane to a point of the same distance, mirroring the object. This idea of reflection will inspire a unified space as the main dining area will be in a central location with a strong symmetrical layout like a mirrored image. The patio layout will be a direct reflection of the main dining area, connecting both areas together through a 15’ nana wall. A centralized dining area and symmetrical layout will create a strong unified atmosphere as all occupants will share the visual connection of belly dancing and the interior space thus promoting a social and fun environment. Reflection will also be used through lighting, materials and water as these elements will add secondary symmetry on top of the symmetrical layout creating a visual twist of reflective surfaces.

BOOK MARK

SPRING 2016 STUDIO 4 INDIVIDUAL PROJECT PROGRAMS USED: AutoCAD Sketch up Visualizer Photoshop

CONCEPT The book store industry is slowly declining so the aim for the design is to recreate the idea of a book store to a fun and creative environment with a strong connection to modern technology. Computer pixels inspire the design of the book store as pixels are a representation of technology. The store will feature interactive screens and iPads for book information and navigation. Pixelated forms will be used to sculpt the interior throughout the seating, partitions, displays and book shelving. These concepts will invite the customer into a fun and inspiring pixelated world.

THE OPEN CIRCUIT

FALL 2016 STUDIO 5 TEAM PROJECT Role In group: Renderings & Space Planning PROGRAMS USED: AutoCAD Revit Photoshop

CONCEPT The “Open Circuit” Amazon Orientation and education centre will be designed to fully function as a space that will employ staff members and participants to engage in the mission of learning about the amazon and culture. In addition, it will provide a sustainable structure to encourage the environmental values that the amazon promotes. The intentions for the design is based around the idea of a “circuit”, which is defined as a discrete path between two or more points along which lines can be carried. Using an unconventional circular layout will allow students and staff to collaborate with one another in a more inviting space. Alternative set ups has been shown to perform more adequate in learning spaces, rather than a more conventional layout

FLOAT HOME

SPRING 2016 STUDIO 4 INDIVIDUAL PROJECT

PROGRAMS USED: AutoCAD Photoshop

CONCEPT The inspiration for the design comes from outdoor living environments (decks, terraces). The intent of the design is to maximize natural light and views in an attempt to blur the line between the exterior and interior. This will be achieved by using Nano Walls and elevated floors. The significant areas of the home will feature these design strategies while opening up to spacious patio/decks. The materials throughout the home will consist of many types of wood and stone; this will add emphasis to a natural/ outdoor environment.

BLOOD DONOR CLINIC

FALL 2015 STUDIO 3 INDIVIDUAL PROJECT

PROGRAMS USED: AutoCAD Photoshop

CONCEPT The focus for the blood donor clinic revolves around patient experience. The design will be straightforward, relaxed and a highly organized environment. Biophilia and wayfinding concepts will be integrated into the design to achieve this atmosphere. Color blocking and oversized signage will be used to guide patients through the step by step process of donating blood. Creating a clear organized path for patients will not only speed up the procedure, but give patients a sense of trust. The clinic will have a strong connection to nature, as most of the dĂŠcor will be plants and green walls. This will improve patient well-being and help promote a safe and relaxed atmosphere.
