I discovered my passion for design and creativity at a very young. I would spend most of my childhood drawing portraits, designing buildings and creating floor plans on video games and computer software programs. I have always had a very strong fascination with geometry and interior architecture, which lead me to pursue a career in Interior design. Each project I have completed in my program has given me an immense skill set of both creativity and technical work to take on new challenges and design solutions. I strongly believe in the power of design through lived environments, as designers hold power to shape everyday surroundings. I hope to utilize the new skill sets I have learned at Humber College and apply them to all future projects in my career of interior design while continuing to expand my design knowledge and passion.

CONCEPT Victims of abuse suffer from a loss of control after experiencing traumatizing events. The design of the counselling center will strive to support patients to regain a feeling of control. This will be achieved by modular design that the patient can manipulate and re-configure to suit their comfort and preference. The incorporation of modular design through architectural features and furniture, both in large and small scales, will support patients to feel in control of their environments. Designing to allow patient control will encourage confidence and support trust which is necessary in a therapeutic environment. Biophilic elements, with an emphasis on integrating garden feature, will further support an atmosphere of trust. Biophilic elements are known to reduce stress and anxiety and encourage feelings of relaxation in patients.

CONCEPT With flexibility we plan to extract components of this idea in order to design in a way that reflects Chick-fil-a values and heritage. Through flexibility we are able to define our design as a modification and adaption to each and every environment it is placed. Through the idea of flexibility and sustainability we have incorporated this into our use of materials and fixtures as a way to connect to the users on the college campus. Our main concern for this new design was to use innovative ways to include flexibility in order create modular components that can be adaptive to any environment. Our modular components are to form a pavilion, a style restaurant that can easily be flexible and adaptive with our design. The pavilion Chick-fila is made from a recycled airplane propane tank, with other recycled components that make up the entire form. The pavilion can be used in every season, as well as indoors and outdoors. The pavilion is made for flexibility in design and use as it is to suit the needs for any campus.

CONCEPT The restaurant “SILA” meaning “connection” in Arabic, will aim to connect all users of the space together through elements of reflection in interior layout and materials. Reflection transfers elements perpendicularly through a plane to a point of the same distance, mirroring the object. This idea of reflection will inspire a unified space as the main dining area will be in a central location with a strong symmetrical layout like a mirrored image. The patio layout will be a direct reflection of the main dining area, connecting both areas together through a 15’ nana wall. A centralized dining area and symmetrical layout will create a strong unified atmosphere as all occupants will share the visual connection of belly dancing and the interior space thus promoting a social and fun environment. Reflection will also be used through lighting, materials and water as these elements will add secondary symmetry on top of the symmetrical layout creating a visual twist of reflective surfaces.

COMMUNITECH OFFICE

CONCEPT The design intent for the Communitech Office is to create as much connectivity and unity between all users of the space. Connectivity is influenced by the co-working environment and will be created with the company ’s identity and employee culture in mind to foster a strong brand relationship. The goal is to create the as office its own community, inspired by the urban aspects of co-housing spaces. C o housing communities are oriented around a shared recreational space, therefore Communitech will imitate these social spaces to sustain a high-collaboration environment. For instance, the work cafe will be at the centre of the office, with secondary spaces oriented around it. These central social settings will encourage collaboration and give an overall connected atmosphere that will create the office as its own co-housing community.

CONCEPT The book store industry is slowly declining so the aim for the design is to recreate the idea of a book store to a fun and creative environment with a strong connection to modern technology. Computer pixels inspire the design of the book store as pixels are a representation of technology. The store will feature interactive screens and iPads for book information and navigation. Pixelated forms will be used to sculpt the interior throughout the seating, partitions, displays and book shelving. These concepts will invite the customer into a fun and inspiring pixelated world.

THE OPEN CIRCUIT

CONCEPT The “Open Circuit” Amazon Orientation and education centre will be designed to fully function as a space that will employ staff members and participants to engage in the mission of learning about the amazon and culture. In addition, it will provide a sustainable structure to encourage the environmental values that the amazon promotes. The intentions for the design is based around the idea of a “circuit”, which is defined as a discrete path between two or more points along which lines can be carried. Using an unconventional circular layout will allow students and staff to collaborate with one another in a more inviting space. Alternative set ups such as this one has been shown to perform more adequate in learning spaces, rather than a more conventional layout
