IT’S TIME TO TAKE IMMEDIATE CLIMATE ACTION RATHER THAN GIVING UP HOPE

It’s the best time to take immediate climate action rather than giving up hope as the COP27, i.e. The UN Climate Change Conference, finished on 20th November 2022’. This is the Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt conference, from 6th November 2022 to 20th November 2022. Hence, this is the next one after COP26 Conference in Glasgow, Scotland and an event organized in alliance with Italy. Climate change is the conference's agenda, which has been occurring annually since the first UN Climate agreement in 1992. This week, the scientific community has made clear that not enough is being done to limit global warming to the crucial 1.5 Degree Celsius threshold. However, it’s about time to take action now, and if not now, when is the best time is a question on the global platform.

Sweden, Greta Thunberg, is the one who is the youngest to have made demonstrations against climate change in front of the Swedish parliament in Stockholm. Thus, something that has created more in-depth awareness amongst children worldwide who want to give a message? A message that very clearly says, “Please Don’t Mess with My Future.”

Change is the need of the hour & a need that is arising due to the many global & environmental concerns. There are enough reasons for people not to give up but take immediate climate action. Here are some of the reasons mentioned below;

The Use Of Electric Vehicles Is On The Rise:

The usage of Electric Vehicles, and EVs is now more on the rise than ever.

It’s not only Canada but also Scandinavia, i.e. the Nordic region, where the electric vehicles are on the rise, especially in Norway and Sweden. This use of electric vehicles is powered by low-carbon electricity hence, as they are reducing the greenhouse gas emissions from land-based support.

The IPCC highlights that sustainable biofuel can offer additional mitigation benefits in land-based transport. This is in short and the medium term. A huge way to invest in the future is in terms of environmental security which highly benefits land-based transport.

There Is Still A Possibility To Change Industrial Emissions: According to experts, net-zero carbon emissions from the industrial sector, while challenging on an industrial scale, are still a possibility.

Thus, reducing the industry emissions will further promote all mitigation options, including demand management and energy & materials efficiency. Also included prominently in the list are the circular material flows and abatement technologies. Finally, the transformational changes in the production processes.

To make rapid progress toward net-zero industrial emissions. Industries can easily take advantage of the new production processes using renewable energies. Also includes green hydrogen, biofuels and controlling carbon management. The latter is a necessary step towards net-zero industrial emissions.

People Awareness Is Increasing As More People Are Engaged:

The increase in the number of people in the climate change movement is now far more than before, let’s say, five years ago. People engagement was evident last year in Glasgow during the Conference COP26, where a crowd of thousands gathered on the roads for demonstrations.

The authors from the IPCC recognize very well in their assessments that there are many people who are motivated, committed and involved for the sake of mutual efforts for the sake of engaging in climate action. Ironically, the level of awareness is sufficient, thanks to social media & awareness campaigns. This is apart from the number of environmental conferences taking place every year all over the world. Environmental protection is now a concern that is most people’s concern about, while a huge number of them are proactively taking part in practical measures and activities.

An assessment report regards to feasibility clearly shows that public acceptability is higher when the costs and the benefits are distributed in fairways. Also, when fair and transparent decision procedures have been followed.

CO2 Removal Is An Essential To Reach The Goals: The assessment report also shows that getting to the targets of net-zero greenhouse emissions requires not only emission reductions. Furthermore, also involves an option called CDR or Carbon-di-oxide removal. The process involves removing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere while storing it on the land, in the ground or in the Ocean, as explains the author Masahiro Sugiyama.

Apart from this & in addition to the deep, rapid and sustained emission reductions. The CO2 reductions or removal can also fulfill three variable and complimentary roles. These are both at the international, i.e. global or national, i.e. country level. These include lowering the net CO2 or net greenhouse emissions in the near term. Achieving the net negative CO2 or Greenhouse gas emissions in the long term. That is if deployed at all levels exceeding the annual residual emissions. Finally, counterbalancing ‘hard-to-abate’ residual emissions.

All these efforts mean it’s no point to give up hope, as it’s the best time to take immediate climate action. Actions speak louder than words, and it’s better to be more proactive at all levels rather than being reactive & waiting for things to happen.
