Greater Manchester Forces Online Directory
The Greater Manchester Combined Authority are proud to be launching this new directory of support organisations, charities and supporting businesses. The aim is to have a central database to help the forces veterans have easy access to key organisations across the Greater Manchester region, as part of the commitment of the GMCA to the Forces Covenant.
The directory works on all devices with a browser including mobile, tablets, PC, Laptop, Smart TV, Xbox and PlayStation. Simply visit the website www.gmforcesdirectory.com on any device to view the businesses and organisations listed for support. This will be continuously updated and added to.
There is no download or app to install. Simply visit the website and save this to your home screen for future use. Or you can scan the QR code to link to the website.
If you’re a business selling products or services that will support veterans, a charitable organisation or health organisation in the Greater Manchester region, you can add your details directly, free of cost, by clicking on the add business/organisation button in the top menu. It will take around 48 hours to go live.

The Forces Directory is a part of Greater Manchester’s digital strategy.
Mayor Andy Burnham said: “I want Greater Manchester to be a digital city with a difference – one with a bold digital economy which actively encourages businesses to invest and grow, and also one where technology is used to deliver positive change, from connecting young people with opportunities, to tackling social problems such as homelessness. This bold vision places the needs of people firmly at the heart of technological innovation.
“We’re already ahead of the game on this. Right here in Greater Manchester we are on the digital frontier with some of the most cutting-edge tech firms in the world. This gives us a remarkable opportunity to take that expertise and innovation, and work with local people to create a smart digital future which has a unique Greater Manchester stamp.
“We want to fuse technological advancement with culture, ethics, communities and places to build a world which is connected, creative and cooperative, and a modern and prosperous Greater Manchester where no-one is left behind.
GM Digital Health and Care
We now live in a world where technology is part of our daily lives, from paying bills, to online shopping, to keeping up with news – the way we do things has been completely transformed because of digital technology. We want to bring this level of digital disruption into our public services to give you greater control over your own health and wellbeing and transform the way in which you use services so they better meet your needs.

Greater Manchester Housing Providers (GMHP) Armed Forces Steering Group
Who are we?
The steering group consists of representatives from a number of the 26 Housing organisations right across Greater Manchester that are passionate about bringing the Armed Forces Covenant to life and helping veterans in the most practical ways.
The group was established in 2017 and chaired by Johnnie Johnson Housing’s CEO Yvonne Castle. YC said “Johnnie was a real person, a world famous fighter pilot in WW2. After retiring in 1969 he formed Johnnie Johnson Housing to provide good quality homes where residents could live independently for as long as they were able. 50 years later we are still honouring that tradition. With our heritage, we have signed the Covenant and made a promise to the military community to offer more support to both serving and former members and their families.”

What do we do?
We work together in partnership with providers, agencies and charities who have connections with the Armed Forces to offer: • Access to housing • Employment opportunities • Support • Awareness training for colleagues
How have GMHP Colleagues helped?
• Committed to making a difference, GMHP signed the Covenant in May 2018 • Bringing People together, hosted an event at the Imperial War Museum in October 2018, which brought housing providers and agencies who support current and former AF personnel together • Launched an E-Learning programme, explaining the issues for those returning to civilian life • Gaining insight into our current residents and their history with Armed Forces by engaging in discussions and signposting to support • Creating experts, through recruitment of internal Armed Forces Champions • Taking practical action - rehousing/ employing AF applicants.
