Mays Center 2021-2022 Annual Report

Selected as one of 18 workforce skills training and job placement programs from across the state, Texas Two- Step focuses on upskilling and/or re-skilling women in the Greater San Antonio community who have an interest in pursuing a career in technology.

GEER Grant for Accelerating Credentials of Purpose and Value Grant awarded $162,080 from the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board to help support the launch of Data Analytics Certificate in Fall 2022.

Find your Future Fridays allowed students to learn about employers that hire people within each major, as well as strategies to make them a more marketable candidate.

Beyond general career development and recruitment initiatives, specialized career events, like Meet the Firms for students focused on accounting and finance, allow students to connect with local and national opportunities.

Jaguars participated in both the MLK Jr. Day and Cesar Chavez Marches. MLK Day of Service at the Campus Garden and Greenhouse had volunteers from the campus Plant Club and Omega Delta Phi fraternity.

During spring break 2022, twelve A&M-SA students chose to volunteer their time and efforts at a local non-profit organization called Camp C.A.M.P. (Children’s Association for Maximum Potential). C.A.M.P. provides recreational opportunities for individuals with medical conditions or disabilities as well as their siblings. Jaguars served as camp counselors and assisted the campers with participating in activities such as outdoor water sports, horseback riding, canoeing, arts and crafts, getting dressed, and eating their meals.

University Days at the Zoo allowed students to learn about jobs and internships available at this landmark organization. This was part of a greater partnerships between the SA Zoo and A&M-SA, which includes the university's sponsorship of the Jaguar exhibit!

The 2021-22 year was a time of continued growth for the Mays Center. We expanded our workforce development programs as well as championed new programs that support connecting our students with opportunities. As you read through this report, we intentionally share some specific stories of students' successes. Our center champions efforts that allow us to observe the exponential growth of our students. They develop self-confidence and inspiration to impact others through events like Alternate Spring Break. Students leave career events and appointments with the biggest smiles because of landing a dream job. We join in as students celebrate internships that they can say yes to because of the financial support and money coaching we offer. As the Mays Center transitions with a new Executive Director/AVP, we continue our mission of empowering students to become career-ready and community-minded.
