It seems like it was just yesterday when community volunteers came together in 1994 to reclaim this building from emerging mushrooms and mildew, after sitting boarded up and dormant for years.

But here we are 25 years later, a beautiful, awardwinning, leading nonprofit performing arts center, attended by over 240,000 people annually.

Over the 18 years that I have had the honor to serve as chief executive of the theatre, there have been so many memorable events and wonderful moments that I’ve had the pleasure to experience with you. I hope the event you will enjoy today generates that same magic and excitement.

Furthermore, I have had the opportunity to get to know so many of you over the years and I cannot thank you enough for your enthusiastic support. Thank you for coming to enjoy spectacular productions, and for your continued commitment to MPAC’s growth and success.

As a nonprofit performing arts center at the heart of our community, it is with tremendous pride that we serve as the cornerstone to a thriving arts scene in Morristown. The goal of our Board of Trustees, hard-working staff and selfless volunteers is to create a welcoming and inclusive environment that celebrates the diversity of our community. The arts are where all of us can come together to share unique experiences.

A WELCOME FROM OUR BOARD CHAIRMAN Dear Patron, It is a pleasure to welcome you to our 25th Anniversary Season at MPAC. This season promises to be one of both excitement and anticipation. Excitement, because we again present a great lineup of shows, education opportunities and community events. Anticipation, because we look forward to sharing with you our plans for the future.

MPAC is in the early stages of planning an expansion of our facility. Our goal is to expand the very popular and growing Education Department and Performing Arts School; build a smaller secondary performance space; and add loading and parking facilities to improve operational efficiency and enhance our patron experience.

We hope to share these plans with you soon. If you are interested in learning how you can support this project, we welcome having a conversation with you.

The growth of Morristown over the past 25 years goes hand in hand with the rebirth of MPAC. More and more, towns across the country have seen the value that a strong arts anchor institution such as MPAC can have on economic growth, business development and quality of life.

Over one hundred people, including the artists and their friends and families, attended this special event where the winners were revealed.

A winning piece by Medhavi Patel, a Junior at Randolph High School, is featured on the cover of this program book, to be seen by tens of thousands of the theaterʼs patrons.

Over 80 students from throughout Morris County participated in this yearʼs contest.

All of the works are exhibited in the Art Upstairs Gallery over a two-week period in March, and can be viewed on mayoarts.org.

DR. TEMPLE GRANDIN: THE WAY I SEE IT

Dr. Temple Grandin Animal Scientist & Autism Self-Advocate Temple Grandin is a professor of animal science at Colorado State University and she has been a pioneer in improving the handling and welfare of farm animals. She was born in Boston, Massachusetts. Temple’s achievements are remarkable because she was an autistic child. At age two she had no speech and all the signs of severe autism.

Many hours of speech therapy, and intensive teaching enabled Temple to learn speech.

As a teenager, life was hard with constant teasing. Mentoring by her high school science teacher and her aunt on her ranch in Arizona motivated Temple to study and pursue a career as a scientist and livestock equipment designer.

a New York Times best seller and her book Livestock Handling and Transport, now has a fourth edition which was published in 2014.

Other popular books authored by Dr. Grandin are Thinking in Pictures, Emergence Labeled Autistic, Animals Make us Human, Improving Animal Welfare: A Practical Approach, The Way I See It, and The Autistic Brain. She also has a popular TED Talk.

She has done extensive work on the design of handling facilities. Half the cattle in the U.S. and Canada are handled in equipment Grandin has designed for meat plants. Other professional activities include developing animal welfare guidelines for the meat industry and consulting with companies on animal welfare.

Dr. Grandin has received numerous awards including the Meritorious Achievement Award from the Livestock Conservation Institute, named a Distinguished Alumni at Franklin Pierce College and received an honorary doctorate from McGill University, University of Illinois, Texas A&M, Carnegie Mellon University, and Duke University. She has also won prestigious industry awards including the Richard L. Knowlton Award from Meat Marketing and Technology Magazine and the Industry Advancement Award from the American Meat Institute and the Beef Top 40 industry leaders and the Lifetime Achievement Award from The National Cattlemen’s Beef Association. In 2011, Temple was inducted into the Cowgirl Hall of Fame.

In 2015 she was given the Distinguished Service Award by the American Farm Bureau Federation and Meritorious Award from the OIE. HBO has premiered a movie about Temple’s early life and career with the livestock industry. The movie received seven Emmy awards, a Golden Globe, and a Peabody Award. In 2016, Temple was inducted into the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.

Following her Ph.D. research on the effect of environmental enrichment on the behavior of pigs, she has published several hundred industry publications, book chapters and technical papers on animal handling plus 73 refereed journal articles in addition to 12 books. She currently is a professor of animal sciences at Colorado State University where she continues her research while teaching courses on livestock handling and facility design. Her book, Animals in Translation was

Dr. Grandin is a past member of the board of directors of the Autism Society of America.

She lectures to parents and teachers throughout the U.S. on her experiences with autism. Articles and interviews have appeared in the New York Times, People, Time, National Public Radio, 20/20, The View, and the BBC. She was also honored in Time Magazineʼs 2010 “The 100 Most Influential People in the World.” Dr. Grandin now resides in Fort Collins, Colorado.

Dr. Temple Grandin obtained her B.A. at Franklin Pierce College in 1970. In 1974 she was employed as Livestock Editor for the Arizona Farmer Ranchman and also worked for Corral Industries on equipment design. In 1975 she earned her M.S. in Animal Science at Arizona State University for her work on the behavior of cattle in different squeeze chutes. Dr. Grandin was awarded her Ph.D in Animal Science from the University of Illinois in 1989 and is currently a Professor at Colorado State University.

A CAPPELLA LIVE! Committed Committed is a Nashville based Award winning musical group comprising five talented young men. They emerged as the Season 2 champions of NBCʼs hit musical competition The Sing-Off. They released a self-titled album and a Christmas EP which has led them to be nominated for a Grammy, Dove, Stellar, and NAACP Image Award.

For over a decade Dennis Baptiste, Geston Pierre, Maurice Staple, Robert Pressley, and Theron Thomas have been traveling the world sharing their harmonies, teaching workshops, and using their influence to make an impact in various communities.

Currently, the boys can be found working hard on their music, videos, and doing what they love most: performing. However, Portrait of a Chameleon — out on Blakeʼs on Audio Day Dream Records and distributed through InGrooves — still has a hypermodern feel, and Blake is looking ahead, hoping that his “future pop” will connect with fans of all ages. “So here we go/A chance to start again/The melody is calling me/Thereʼs no time to pretend,” he boldly declares in the albumʼs opening track.

Each of the musicians has a strong artistic identity shaped by the culture in which they grew up, and each finds endless excitement in learning and exploring the many cultures of the world. The unique music which stems forth from this cross-pollination of genres, rhythms and global sounds is thus borderless and spirited, carrying the undeniable message of unity.

Through their work, Women of the World created a stir in the community, receiving support from renowned artists such as Grammy-award winning maestro, Bobby McFerrin. They went on to share the stage with African vocal icon, Angelique Kidjo, and the Boston Pops Orchestra led by maestro conductor Keith Lockhart.

An active composer for film and television with numerous feature films to his credit, Clausen has been commissioned by The New York Times, Bloomberg TV, Carnegie Corporation, Dell, The Whitney Museum, and Freedom House and his scores appeared at the DocNYC Festival, Austin Film Festival, Reykjavik International Film Festival, and LA Shorts Fest.

CHLOE ROWLANDS is a trumpet player, composer, and music educator living in New York City. Born in Seattle and raised in Phoenix, Chloe moved to NYC in 2010 to attend the New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music. She enjoys performing a wide variety of styles and can be found in various musical settings such as leading the brass section in the orchestra for Loft Opera productions, playing flugelhorn, synthesizer, and singing background vocals in the IndieRock band Cape Francis, and composing and producing music for film and media. Chloe is the newest member of The Westerlies.

She has shared the stage with many notable musicians including Wynton Marsalis, Charli Persip, Marcus Printup, Arturo Sandoval, Wayne Bergeron, Donny McCaslin, Terell Stafford, Brian Lynch, Paquito D’Rivera, and has played in bands such as Fleet Foxes and Frances Cone. Chloe has performed across the world at various festivals and venues such

as the Monterey Jazz Festival, Voodoo Music Festival, South by Southwest, Marian’s Jazz Room and the Bern International Jazz Festival in Switzerland, the Jarasum International Jazz Festival in South Korea, and the Java International Jazz Festival in Indonesia.

She is the 2nd place winner of the International Trumpet Guild’s Jazz Trumpet Competition, and a recipient of the Theresa Perez Directors Award and the Eubie Blake Scholarship award.

RILEY MULHERKAR has been recognized as a “smart young trumpet player” by The New York Times and praised by The Wall Street Journal as a “youngster to keep an eye on.” As a musical director, Riley has worked with a number of leading artists of our time, including NEA Jazz Masters Wynton Marsalis and Dee Dee Bridgewater. Riley also serves as Artistic Director for Jazz at The Joye in Aiken Festival, bringing leading young musicians, actors and dancers to the historic city of Aiken, South Carolina.

Born and raised in Seattle, Riley moved to New York in 2010 to study at The Juilliard School, where he completed his Bachelor’s Degree in 2014 and his Master’s in 2015, receiving the Knowles Prize for Jazz and the Peter Mennin Prize for outstanding achievement and leadership in music. He is also an inaugural recipient of Juilliard’s Marks Fellowship. In 2011, Riley was named a “rising jazz artist” by Wynton Marsalis in JET magazine, and in 2014 was the first recipient of the Laurie Frink Career Grant at the Festival of New Trumpet Music.

HERMAN'S HERMITS STARRING PETER NOONE AND THE GRASS ROOTS PETER NOONE Peter Blair Denis Bernard Noone is a multitalented entertainer, who has been delighting audiences nearly all his life. He was born in Manchester, England, where he studied voice and acting at St. Bede’s College and the Manchester School of Music and Drama. As a child, he played “Stanley Fairclough” in the long-running British soap opera Coronation Street. He was also featured in the television series Knight Errant, Family Solicitor and Monro’s Saki Stories.

Friday, March 20, 2020 THE GRASS ROOTS Dusty Hanvey (Lead Guitar , Vocals) For more than 27 years this Cherry Valley, California native has been an integral part of one of the most iconic bands of its time. Along with his skills as a lead guitarist and vocalist, Dusty also takes on the title of The Grass Roots’ Road Manager. “Great compositions stand the test of time. These songs will always be considered some of the best pop rock songs ever recorded and it’s a pleasure to perform them with this great band.”

Larry Nelson (Keyboards, Vocals) Hailing from Norfolk, Virginia, Larry has been performing The Grass Roots’ memorable keyboard lines in countless venues across North America for more than 27 years. “It may be a cliché, but it really is all about the songs. It never gets old performing great songs and enjoying the immediate feedback from the audience. Mark’s vocals bring to life the classic Grass Roots’ sound that America has loved for almost 50 years. “It’s hard for anyone to deny that The Grass Roots are one of pop music’s most memorable bands.

INDIGO GIRLS Never ones to rest on their laurels, Indigo Girls embarked on a bold new chapter in 2012, collaborating with a pair of orchestrators to prepare larger-than-life arrangements of their songs to perform with symphonies around the country. It was a challenging endeavor, to say the least, but the GRAMMY-winning duo managed to find that elusive sonic sweet spot with the project, creating a seamless blend of folk, rock, pop, and classical that elevated their songs to new emotional heights without sacrificing any of the emotional intimacy and honesty that have defined their music for decades.

Now, after more than 50 performances with symphonies across America, the experience has finally been captured in all its grandeur on the band’s stunning new album, Indigo Girls Live With The University of Colorado Symphony Orchestra.

Recorded in front of a sold-out audience in Boulder, CO, and deftly mixed by GRAMMYwinner Trina Shoemaker (Sheryl Crow, Emmylou Harris), the record showcases Indigo Girls at their finest: raw, real, and revelatory. Spanning material from throughout the band’s career, the 22-song set features a mix of reimagined classics, unexpected deep cuts, and tracks from their latest studio album, One Lost Day. Backed by the symphony, Amy Ray and Emily Saliers’ voices are both powerful and delicate, their intertwined harmonies riding high on the crest of an emotional tidal wave created

PROGRAM NOTES ACT I - The Garden of Prince Siegfriedʼs Castle Prince Siegfried has come of age and entered upon a new world of affairs of war and the burdens of manhood. It is the day for leaving behind the whims and caprice of youth. A happy day for the Prince, though touched by anxiety. The kindly jester and tutor who have been the Princeʼs loving companions since his childhood are the first to congratulate him. He greets his companions and joyfully accepts the congratulations of all the residents of the Castle.

The Princeʼs subjects come from far and wide to take part in the festivities. They confer upon him the sword and scepter of authority and swear allegiance to their new ruler. His mother, the Queen Mother of the Realm, presents him with an arbalest as a gift and reminds him that the time has come to choose a bride and that he must make the fateful decision at tomorrow’s ball. He is eager to contemplate this life change in silence. The festivities continue, but the Prince is overcome by a desire to be alone, far from his guests. As he begins to search the contents of his heart he notices a flight of white swans heading toward the nearby lake. He is inspired and follows them there, disappearing into the night.

ACT II - A Lakeside The voyage to the lake takes the Prince into the depths of the forest. He approaches the Swans quietly and as he nears he sees something quite out of the ordinary. The Swans have stepped ashore and assumed human form! Siegfried lowers the crossbow, astonished with their striking beauty. He gathers his courage and reveals himself. Odette, the swan’s Queen tells him of their terrible curse. They are all at the mercy of the wicked sorcerer Rothbart and only by finding true love can the evil spell be lifted. Siegfried, overcome with love at first sight, swears to her an everlasting love. As the sun beings to dawn, Odette warns him that if he breaks his oath, nothing will be able to help them. The Prince is completely overcome by the incomparable and exquisite delicacy of Odette, and swears that he will return and free her from the evil spell. As the sunlight touches them, the women transform back into Swans, cloaked in silence.

- Intermission ACT III - The Great Hall of Prince Siegfriedʼs Castle The castle resounds to the clamor of festivities. Renowned Princesses from Hungary, Russia, Spain, Italy and Poland are presented to the Prince. He must choose one of them as his bride, in order to strengthen his authority and consolidate his power. However, in none of these royal heiresses does he find a maiden comparable to Odette, to whom he has given his heart. He rejects them all.

With an overwhelming blare of trumpets, a couple of new guests are announced. The evil sorcerer, Rothbart, enters in the guise of a noble knight, and following close behind is his daughter, Odylle, who looks remarkably like Odette. The similarity is so close, in fact, that Siegfried believes, if only for a split second, that it is Odette standing there before him.

Odylle seizes the brief moment of illusion as an opportunity and will not allow him to find his senses. She becomes a bewitching temptress, luring him, hypnotizing him, and tricking him into confessing his undying love to her! In this hypnotic stupor, he proclaims that Odylle is to be his bride. Rothbart has triumphed! Siegfried has broken his oath to Odette, betraying her by professing love to another, thereby dooming Odette and the others to an eternity under Rothbart’s evil power. Suddenly a vision of the Swan Lake appears before Siegfried’s eyes, snapping him back into reality. He realizes the terrible mistake he has made. In despair he leaves the palace and hurries to Odette at the Lake.

RUSSIAN NATIONAL BALLET: SWAN LAKE ACT IV - The Lakeside Night falls again on the Lake. The swan maidens are anxious, for if the Prince does not fulfill his vow to set them free, they will be doomed to everlasting captivity. The sorcerer raises a raging storm to conceal the Swan Lake behind a screen of dark clouds, But the Prince rushes headlong through the storm to Odette. The sorcerer attempts to conceal her from him, but no power can stop the young man whose heart is so full of love.

The Prince overcomes all obstacles, and the spell cast by the evil sorcerer is dashed forever on the rock of true love.

Russian National Ballet Theatre Company of 50

Artistic Director: Elena Radchenko The Russian National Ballet Theatre was founded in Moscow during the transitional period of Perestroika in the late 1980s, when many of the great dancers and choreographers of the Soviet UnionĘźs ballet institutions were exercising their new-found creative freedom by starting new, vibrant companies dedicated not only to the timeless tradition of classical Russian Ballet but to invigorate this tradition as the Russians began to accept new developments in the dance from around the world.

The company, then titled the Soviet National Ballet, was founded by and incorporated graduates from the great Russian choreographic schools of Moscow, St. Petersburg and Perm. The principal dancers of the company came from the upper ranks of the great ballet companies and academies of Russia, and the companies of Riga, Kiev and even Warsaw. Today, the Russian National Ballet Theatre is its own institution, with over 50 dancers of singular instruction and vast experience, many of whom have been with the company since its inception.

In 1994, the legendary Bolshoi principal dancer Elena Radchenko was selected by Presidential decree to assume the first permanent artistic directorship of the company. Ms. Radchenko is the founder of the Russian National Ballet Theatre, and she has focused the Company on upholding the grand national tradition of the major Russian ballet works and developing new talents throughout Russia, with a repertory of virtually all of the great full works of Petipa: Don Quixote, La Bayadere, The Sleeping Beauty, Swan Lake, Raymonda, Paquita, Coppelia and La Sylphide, as well as productions of, among others, The Nutcracker, Sylvia, and La Fille Mal Gardee.

FRANK FERRANTE IN AN EVENING WITH GROUCHO Director: Dreya Weber Accompanist: Gerald Sternbach Frank Ferrante (Groucho/Writer) The Chicago Tribune named Frank Ferrante as one of the top ten performances of 2019 for his work in the cirque spectacular Teatro ZinZanni. Frank recently directed and performed in the Walnut Street Theatre’s production of Ken Ludwig’s A Comedy of Tenors. Last year at the Walnut, he directed and played the lead role, Pseudolus, in A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum acknowledged by the Wall Street Journal as one of the top performances in the country for 2017. Described by The New York Times as “the greatest living interpreter of Groucho Marx’s material,” Animal Crackers and A Night at the Opera co-author Morrie Ryskind called him “the only actor aside from Groucho who delivered my lines as they were intended.” Discovered by Groucho’s son Arthur when Frank was a drama student at the University of Southern California, Frank originated the off-Broadway title role in Groucho: A Life in Revue (written by Arthur) portraying the comedian from age 15 to 85.

For this role, Frank earned New York’s Theatre World Award and an Outer Critics Circle nomination. He reprised the role in London’s West End and was nominated for the Laurence Olivier Award for “Comedy Performance of the Year.” Frank played the Groucho role in the off-Broadway revival of The Cocoanuts and has played Captain Spalding in several productions of Animal Crackers, winning a Connecticut Critics Circle Award for his portrayal at Goodspeed Opera House and a Helen Hayes nomination in Washington, DC at Arena Stage. In Boston, he played the Huntington Theatre in the record-breaking run of Animal Crackers that landed Frank on the cover of American Theatre Magazine. Frank

has now performed the Groucho role over 2,500 times in more than 400 cities. Recently, Frank toured An Evening With Groucho for eight weeks in Australia playing 35 cities as well as extended runs at Milwaukee Repertory Theater and Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park.

His other regional roles include Max Prince in Neil Simon’s Laughter on the 23rd Floor at the Walnut Street Theatre (which Frank also directed); George S. Kaufman in By George (a one-man play written by Frank); Oscar in The Odd Couple and leads in The Sunshine Boys, Lady in the Dark and Anything Goes.

Frank directed M*A*S*H star Jamie Farr in the Kaufman & Hart comedy George Washington Slept Here and at the Walnut revivals of Simon’s Brighton Beach Memoirs, Biloxi Blues, Broadway Bound and Lost in Yonkers.

In 1995, he directed and developed the world premiere of the Pulitzer Prize finalist Old Wicked Songs. In 2001, Frank directed, produced and starred in the national PBS television program Groucho: A Life in Revue.

Frank has played over 1,500 performances as the comic Latin lover Caesar in the cirque show Teatro ZinZanni in Seattle and San Francisco and in Palazzo in Amsterdam. On television, Frank played a speaking mime on Rob Corddry’s Emmy Award-winning comedy Childrens Hospital and can be heard on the animated series Garfield as the voice of Lyman, Odie’s first owner, and on SpongeBob SquarePants as Patrick’s boss. Frank stars in the web series Caesar’s World now viewable on Funny or Die. He is a question on the TV program Jeopardy. “He took his portrayal of Groucho Marx to New York in 1986.” The answer: “Who is Frank Ferrante?”

Gerald Sternbach (Accompanist) Jerry is one of the busiest musical directors in LA with 12 Ovation nominations (2006 win), seven Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle nominations (winning in 2006, 2007 and 2011). He has accompanied and worked with a variety

of artists including Marilyn Horne, Jennifer Hudson, Josh Groban, Sarah Brightman, Carol Burnett, Adam Lambert, Nancy Wilson, Lainie Kazan, John Lithgow and Judith Light (most recently for her Emmy nominated performance on Transparent). For Mel Brooks, he not only

Southern California credits: the world premiere of Wishful Drinking (written and starring the late, great Carrie Fisher); Stephen Sondheim’s 75th Birthday Concert at the Hollywood Bowl; Grey Gardens (associate conductor, Ahmanson Theater); I Only Have Eyes for You (arranger/ musical director, Montalban Theater); Sondheim on Sondheim and Closer than Ever (International City Theater); and Love, Noel and Enter Laughing (by Carl Reiner, both at the Wallis Annenberg Center). Broadway credits include associate conductor for Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, Merlin, and The Tap Dance Kid. National tour credits include Les Misérables (LA premiere company) and the national tour of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Song and Dance (starring Melissa Manchester). He has been an adjunct professor at Cal State

University, Los Angeles for over eight years and was musical director at the Jerry Herman High School Music Theater Awards held at the Pantages Theater for four years. As a songwriter/composer, Jerry has contributed songs to three Ringling Brothersʼ Circuses; Heartbeats (with Amanda McBroom); A-5-67-8! (with Faye Greenberg); Club Mom (with Elin Hampton); and Biting Broadway! The First Successful Vampire Musical (with Jordan Beck, Richard Hochberg). His song (written with Faye Greenberg) “Mary,” a tribute to Mary Tyler Moore, was sung by Eric McCormack on the 2004 TV Land awards in the presence of the original cast of the landmark sitcom, one of the thrills of his life. Jerry accompanied extended runs of An Evening With Groucho at Milwaukee Repertory Theater, Cincinnati Playhouse and Bucks County Playhouse and recently concluded a run of the Los Angeles premiere of the long running off-Broadway hit show, Cagney.

Dreya Weber (Director) Dreya has directed extended runs of An Evening with Groucho at Seattle’s ACT, the Milwaukee Repertory Theater, the Pasadena Playhouse, the Bucks County Playhouse and Cincinnati’s Playhouse in the Park. Dreya recently directed and choreographed Sensatia at the Faena theater in Miami. Dreya produced and starred in The Gymnast and A Marine Story, collectively honored with 48 U.S. and international film festival awards including seven “Best Actress” honors. Dreya co-directed and wrote the recently released independent feature Raven’s Touch in which she plays the title role.

She conceived and directed Caesar’s World, now viewable on Funny or Die. Dreya writes extensively for many cirque/theater venues including Teatro ZinZanni, Palazzo and Le Studio. Her stage credits include As You Like It at Los Angeles Women’s Shakespeare Company, A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings at CTG and the award-winning West

Coast premiere of Austin Pendleton’s Orson’s Shadow in which she played Vivien Leigh. On the East Coast, she appeared in the New York Shakespeare Festival’s Comedy of Errors, Childhood (with Glenn Close), Inadmissible Evidence and Macbeth. Dreya conceived and choreographed Pink’s performances at the 2010 and 2014 Grammys and was associate choreographer for Michael Jackson’s This is It. For more than a decade, Dreya has created the aerials for all of Pink’s recordbreaking international tours. Her creative direction and aerial choreography has been featured in over 15 international arena tours including those for Katy Perry, Taylor Swift, Rihanna, Madonna, Cher, Christina Aguilera, Britney Spears and Kylie Minogue. Her work as aerial choreographer on Magic Mike Live is represented in the ongoing West End and Las Vegas runs. Dreya just performed a run at Philadelphiaʼs Walnut Street Theatre in Ken Ludwigʼs A Comedy of Tenors.

Groucho Marx (Legend) The New York Times summed up the comedy genius Groucho Marx as “America’s most gifted funny man.”

Born Julius Henry Marx on October 2, 1890,

Groucho was the third of five sons born to poor immigrant parents Sam and Minnie Marx.

Chico and Harpo preceded him. Gummo and Zeppo followed. Straight from the streets of

Eventually, brothers Harpo, Chico, Gummo and Zeppo joined the act that began as the singing Four Nightingales and evolved into the worldʼs funniest vaudeville act known as the Marx Brothers. After twenty years of touring their act all over the country, the Marx Brothers finally hit pay dirt with a musical comedy called Iʼll Say She Is. Audiences and critics went wild over the Brothersʼ irreverent humor, the expert pantomime, the wisecracks, the physical shtick, the outrageous musical talent. Said one local Philadelphia critic about the show, “It was as if a tornado hit town. Weʼve never seen anything like the Marx Brothers.ʼ Iʼll Say She Is moved to Broadway in 1924 and was an instant sensation legitimizing the Marx Brothers as world-class talents. Two more Broadway hits followed - The Cocoanuts and Animal Crackers introducing audiences to Grouchoʼs most renowned incarnation - Captain Spalding, the African Explorer. In 1930, Groucho and his brothers moved to Hollywood and changed the face of film comedy forever. There they made Monkey Business, Horse Feathers, Duck Soup, A

Night at the Opera, A Day at the Races, Room Service, At the Circus, Go West, The Big Store, A Night in Casablanca, and Love Happy between 1931 and 1949. The Four Marx Brothers appeared on the cover of Time Magazine in 1932. As a solo, Groucho launched a career on radio and television with his Emmy Award winning work as the host of the comedy quiz show “You Bet Your Life.” The show flourished for fourteen highly rated seasons from 1947 to 1961 on ABC radio then NBC television. Groucho was a major fixture in 1950ʼs television with his “secret woid” and a duck that dropped from the sky to pay wacky contestants “an extra hundred dollars.” In the late 1960ʼs, a renewed interest in the anarchic hijinks of the Marx Brothers swept across the nation - particularly among college age students. Fortunately, Groucho Marx survived long enough to experience his renaissance. He made TV appearances, performed at Carnegie Hall at age 82 and received a special Academy Award in 1974 for “the brilliant and unequalled achievements of the Marx Brothers.” On August 19, 1977 Groucho Marx died at age 86. His final request? “Bury me next to Marilyn Monroe.”

THE PEKING ACROBATS For the last thirty two years, The Peking Acrobats® have redefined audience perceptions of Chinese acrobatics. They perform daring maneuvers atop a precarious pagoda of chairs and display their technical prowess at such arts as trick-cycling, precision tumbling, juggling, somersaulting, and gymnastics. They push the limits of human ability, defying gravity with amazing displays of contortion, flexibility, and control. The Peking Acrobats are often accompanied by live musicians who skillfully play traditional Chinese instruments; the time-honored Chinese music coalesces with high-tech special effects and awe-inspiring acrobatic feats, creating an exuberant entertainment event with the festive pageantry of a Chinese Carnival.

Season Finale, where the company blended their unique brand of acrobatics with the majestic sound of the 100-piece Hollywood Bowl Orchestra, conducted by John Mauceri.

Since their Hollywood Bowl debut, The Peking Acrobats have performed with many of the most prestigious Symphony Orchestras in North America today. These include the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra; the Ravinia Festival Orchestra, featuring members of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra; the San Diego Symphony Orchestra; the Cincinnati Pops Orchestra; the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra; and the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra. The Peking Acrobats return often to the Hollywood Bowl, where they perform with the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra as Special Guest Artists.

Since their founding in 1986, The Peking Acrobats have been featured on numerous television shows and celebrity-studded TV specials. These include Nickelodeon’s Unfabulous, Ellen’s Really Big Show (hosted

by Ellen DeGeneres), The Wayne Brady Show, That’s Incredible, ABCʼs Wide World of Sports, and NBCʼs Ring In The New Year Holiday Special. They have also appeared on HDNet TVʼs In Focus series, and have appeared regularly in 3D on NBC/Comcastʼs new 3D Channel. The Peking Acrobats set the world record for the Human Chair Stack on FOX Networkʼs Guinness Book Primetime television show in 1999: they balanced six people precariously atop six chairs twenty one feet up in the air without safety lines, astounding audiences with their bravery and dexterity. The Peking Acrobats have also made their way onto the silver screen – company members were featured in Steven Soderbergh's hit film Oceanʼs Eleven playing alongside Julia Roberts, Brad Pitt and George Clooney. Peking Acrobatsʼ alumnus Shaobo Qin also appeared in that filmʼs two sequels, Oceanʼs Twelve and Oceanʼs Thirteen.

Over their thirty-one year career, The Peking Acrobats have achieved international acclaim, dazzling audiences around the world. In February of 2005, The Peking Acrobats premiered in Italy on a five-week, twelve-city tour. Their opening in Milan became a spectacular media event that was covered nationally by the Italian press. In city after city, The Peking Acrobats took stage before sold-out crowds, and the reviews were filled with accolades attesting to their superb performances. Since their Italian debut, The Peking Acrobats have performed in seven European countries on their six European Tours between 2005 and today.

The Peking Acrobats achieved another milestone in the fall of 2003, when they made their orchestral debut at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles, CA. They performed as part of the Hollywood Bowl’s Fireworks

The Peking Acrobats are part of a timehonored Chinese tradition, rooted in centuries of Chinese history and folk art.

Tradition demands that each generation of acrobats add its own improvements and embellishments; because of this, high honor is conferred upon those skilled enough to become acrobats. The Peking Acrobats seek to uphold this rich and ancient folk art tradition, bringing it to new technical heights while integrating twenty-first century technology. In the words of Clive Davis of the New York Post, “The Peking Acrobats [are] pushing the envelope of human possibility,” combining agility and grace in remarkable feats of “pure artistry.”

CASH CAB'S BEN BAILEY LIVE IN CONCERT Before he got behind the wheel of The Cash Cab - Ben Bailey began his career as a stand up comedian. As a young man Bailey left his home in a small town in New Jersey and headed to Los Angeles to pursue his dream of a career in show business. Just a few weeks later he found himself onstage at The Comedy Store on the Sunset Strip and knew right away that he had found his calling. He soon after returned to the East Coast and quickly became a crowd favorite at the clubs in New York City. He has since performed at all the major festivals including Montreal and Chicago (Just For Laughs), The Edinburgh Fringe Festival, and at clubs and theaters around the world.

In 2019 Ben’s hit TV gameshow Cash Cab returned to BRAVO after a successful special run on The Discovery Channel in 2017. Bailey and his cab is back on duty, returning to the infamous streets of New York City to take unsuspecting passengers on the ride of their life. The 2017 incarnation of the 6-time Daytime Emmy-Award® winning series saw unwitting passengers joined by a guest celebrity who helped the passengers rack up the cash. The celebrity line-up included Matthew Perry, Brooke Shields, Scott Bakula,

Gilbert Gottfried, Dave Foley, Jeff Garlin and Susie Essman. The series continued in its original format through 2018 and was picked up by The Gameshow Network for 2019, solidifying the show as a classic gameshow.

Ben has starred in two specials for Comedy Central. His most recent, “Road Rage and Accidental Ornithology,” is currently streaming on Netflix. He has appeared in several commercials, on Last Call w/Carson Daly, The Late Show, The Tonight Show, The Today Show, The Oprah Winfrey Show, Rachael Ray, and virtually every major TV and radio show in the country.. He has gone on to host several other series including Whoʼs Still Standing for NBC, Best in The Business and After the Catch for Discovery.

He has appeared in numerous other TV shows - 30 Rock, Parenthood, Law and Order, and One Life to Live to name a few.

BRIAN CULBERTSON: THE XX TOUR Brian Culbertson is an award-winning multiinstrumentalist, songwriter and producer known for his distinct brand of genrecrossing contemporary jazz, R&B and funk.

Mining the urban sounds of musically-rich Chicago, he began his musical studies on piano at age eight and quickly picked up several other instruments by the time he was twelve, including drums, trombone, bass and euphonium. Inspired by the iconic R&B-jazz-pop artists of the 1970s like Earth, Wind & Fire, Tower of Power, Chicago, David Sanborn and others, Culbertson started composing original music for his seventh grade piano recital and hasn’t stopped since, amassing 30 Billboard No. 1 singles (and counting!) and a deep catalogue of 18 albums, most of which have topped the Billboard contemporary jazz charts.

CHRISTOPHER CROSS: 40TH ANNIVERSARY TOUR Christopher Cross burst onto the music scene with his 1980 self-titled debut album, winning five Grammy Awards, including—for the first time in Grammy history—the “Big Four” most prestigious awards: Record of the Year (for the single “Sailing”), Album of the Year, Song of the Year (also “Sailing”), and Best New Artist.

In a career spanning over five decades, Cross has sold over 10 million albums. His music has garnered five Grammys, an Oscar, a Golden Globe, an Emmy nomination and five Top 10 singles.

Within a year of the first album’s release, Cross was keeping company with music royalty like Burt Bacharach and Carole Bayer Sager and through that collaboration won an Oscar for “Arthur’s Theme,” the theme song for the movie Arthur. With his 1983 release, Another Page, Cross was again in the Top 10 with the singles “Alright” and “Think of Laura.”

His song, “Swept Away,” composed for the hit television series, Growing Pains, was

nominated for an Emmy in 1988. His creative flame continues to burn brighter than ever, and 12 albums since 1980 demonstrate not only are his first fans listening enthusiastically, but a new generation is discovering his music.

Cross is rewarding them all with ever more richly-crafted melodies and elegant guitar work as featured in his latest work, Take Me As I Am (2018). All in all, it’s been quite a ride, one that’s taken Cross from his early days in Texas where he once served as a drum tech for Ginger Baker, bought gear from Jimmy Page, played lead guitar for Deep Purple on a night when Ritchie Blackmore fell ill, among other unique experiences; to his current role as an ever-evolving musician touring the world. A box set commemorating his multidecade long career will be released in 2020.
