MUSIC STUDENTS OF THE MONTH

Matthew Brill Grade 12, Madison High School, Madison; Nominated by Michael Silvestri Matthew has been a loyal and serious guitar student for six years! I started working with him during our summer program when he was a 7th grader and he has continued all through high school. He has been in the first guitar section of our guitar ensemble for two years and is the first chair in his section this year for the second year in a row. He will be auditioning for the first ever NJ State Honors Guitar Ensemble in February. Matt has studied classical guitar privately as well as in school. Matt will be majoring in music next year when he goes to college and will probably be a classical guitar major. He is one of the top three guitarists that I have had the pleasure of working with at MHS during my 24 years as the orchestra and guitar ensemble director. It is a pleasure to recommend him for this honor. Marissa Conroy Grade 12, Dover High School, Dover; Nominated by Thomas Fett Marissa is an incredibly motivated student in my Guitar 2 class. She is always on time, prepared, and trying her best to learn the material, which at times is very challenging. When she does not understand a concept, she always asks for assistance to help guide her towards self-improvement and mastering the guitar. She is a great role model and has been a great asset to my first year of teaching! Matthew Scholmann Grade 11, Jefferson Township High School, Oak Ridge; Nominated by James Wynee Matthew is a member of the Jefferson Township High School Chorus. He is an Honors Student in his Junior year. He first enrolled in the high school music program as a member of the Music Technology I class, having taken guitar class in the middle school. From that point on, Matt’s involvement with all things musical has really blossomed. He is a member of the Concert and Chamber Choirs, a Chorus Council Officer, and one of the founding members of the JTHS Radio Station. He was also one of the charter members of the JTHS Fusion Orchestra- a student run ensemble dedicated to fusing Classical and Rock music together. Billy Xocoy Grade 11, Randolph High School, Randolph; Nominated by Tom Davidson Ill has been in the Randolph High School Jazz Ensemble for the past two year. Aside from being one of the most technically talented musicians in the group, he has displayed excellent character traits of politeness, work ethic, and humor. Of all the members of the ensemble, he has the best grasp of the music theory that goes behind the music. Billy is very deserving of this recognition. He is a fantastic musician and a great kid. He is truly an asset to the Randolph band program as a whole.
