OUTSTANDING STRING MUSICIANS

Sophie Andrews Grade 10, Chatham High School, Chatham, Nominated by Krystle Graser Sophie has been a valued member of the School District of the Chatham Orchestra Program since day one. She brings an energy and enthusiasm to orchestral music and our class that not every student is capable of doing. She has emerged as a strong co-leader of our Chamber Orchestra first violin section by taking charge, staying positive, and offering assistance to her peers- in turn, she is highly respected by her classmates. Her dedication to music and the violin has allowed her to gain entry to our Chamber Orchestra, and outside of school: the New Jersey Youth Symphony, New Jersey Region I Orchestra, and the 2017 Honor Orchestra of America. Given Sophie’s accomplishments and contributions to the CHS Orchestra Program and other programs in the state, I believe she is a very strong candidate for being recognized as an MPAC Outstanding String Player.

Kristine Bartley Grade 9, Jefferson Township High School, Oak Ridge, Nominated by Rich Barrieres Kristine is an outstanding viola and violin player. She earned first chair on viola in the North Jersey Jr. Region Orchestra this year. She also plays with the Sussex County Youth Orchestra.

In addition to her talent on strings, Kristine also excels on French Horn and Trombone.

Gregory Fu Grade 10, Kinnelon High School, Kinnelon, Nominated by Ryan Stroud Greg finds himself in a unique situation in our school. Kinnelon HS currently doesn’t have a strings program, but Greg is able to play his Cello in our Wind Ensemble and has adapted quite nicely. Gregory has been part of the Region I Orchestra his first two years in KHS and is also a member of the New Jersey Youth Symphony at NJPAC. We’re proud of his achievements and that’s why we’ve nominated him!

Josh Hinman Grade 6, Chatham Middle School, Parsippany, Nominated by Suzanne Bass Josh is a 6th grade violinist in my orchestra who started playing when he was in third grade.

He is a serious student who always participates positively and offers great suggestions during rehearsals. He has worked very hard to get to the level of playing he is at now, by persevering and never giving up. It brings me great satisfaction to witness his success, because I know how hard he has worked to develop his skills on his instrument. I am so proud of Josh!

Ryan Karbowniczak Grade 8, Copeland Middle School, Rockaway, Nominated by Ardith Collins Ryan has been a member of the Copeland Middle School String Ensemble for 3 years.

began playing bass as a sixth grader, and has become an outstanding leader of the bass section in both String Ensemble and Jazz Band in that short time. Ryan has been recognized academically and also enjoys basketball, soccer, and the piano.

Kiersten Krogstad Grade 8, Copeland Middle School, Rockaway, Nominated by Ardith Collins Kiersten is an outstanding student who has played violin since 4th grade and who has been a member of the Copeland Middle School String Ensemble for three years. She also plays the flute in the CMS Band. She is an exceptional student academically and an avid dancer and a black belt in karate. She volunteers at Tamberlaine Farms and has aspirations to pursue a career in Veterinary medicine.

Jamie Lynch Grade 6, Chatham Middle School, Parsippany, Nominated by Suzanne Bass Jamie is a sixth grade violinist who is an exceptional player and student. She is very focused during rehearsals and always contributes positively to the group. Jamie volunteers weekly to help teach our district’s beginning 3rd grade string students in an after school program. She volunteers each week to help teach these students and they learn so much from her! She is one of the most mature and dedicated students I have had the pleasure of teaching.

Kathleen Merritt Grade 12, Morristown High School, Morristown, Nominated by Norma Davis Kathleen has been an outstanding member of the Morristown High School Orchestra for four years. She is a role model to her peers, motivated to learn, and industrious. Kathleen has been a member of the select Chamber Orchestra/String Ensemble for four years and has shared her talents at numerous school and community events such as CareOne, the Morris County Courthouse, and the Intergenerational Prom. She has performed with Priya, another honoree this evening, at the Solo and Small Ensemble concerts since freshman year. They are both members of Camerata, the most advanced string ensemble at Morristown High School.

Priya Sapra Grade 12, Morristown High School, Morristown, Nominated by Norma Davis Priya has been an outstanding member of the Morristown High School Orchestra for four years.

She is eager to learn, dedicated and motivated. She is a violin section leader in the Orchestra and a role model. She has been a member of the select Chamber Orchestra/String Ensemble for four years and has shared her talents at numerous school and community events such as CareOne, the Morris County Courthouse, and the Intergenerational Prom. She has performed with Kathleen, another honoree this evening, at the Solo and Small Ensemble concerts since freshman year. They are both members of Camerata, the most advanced string ensemble at Morristown High School.

Priscilla Tam Grade 8, Brooklawn Middle School, Parsippany, Nominated by Joseph Stella Priscilla is a clarinet player in our 8th grade band and also serves as concert master during our concerts. In addition to being a fine clarinetist, she is also a very fine violinist and has made it into the NJ Junior Region Orchestras for the past two years and has also been selected to the NJ Intermediate All State Orchestra. She would be playing violin or clarinet with our musical’s pit orchestra this year, but her ever-expanding talents have led her to have a role on the stage acting and singing as well. She would be a great recipient of the Outstanding String Player recognition.
