Inspired by the popular picture books of David Soman and Jacky Davis, this lively new musical buzzes with the inventive energy of childhood, as Lulu, disappointed that she is too little to play baseball with her big brother, grabs her trusty sidekick, Bingo, the family dog, and goes off to the park, seeking other adventures. She meets up with her friend, Sam, morphs with him into the redoubtable Ladybug Girl and Bumblebee Boy, and finds other friends to fight an Alien as . . . the Bug Squad.

With book, music and lyrics by Scott Elmegreen (who created Ivy +Bean, the Musical, for BACT), the show features memorable melodies and the comedic skills of clown Andrew Quick in the role of Bingo.

Benjamin Hanna directs the production.

“This show inspired children throughout the San Francisco Bay Area to explore creative play and we are excited to share the story with children on the East Coast through this tour.” said BACT Executive Director Nina Meehan.

Benjamin Hanna (Director) served as BACT’s interim artistic director from October-January 2016. A director and teaching artist, Hanna earned his degree in theatre arts from the University of Minnesota. He then worked at Children's Theatre Company, SteppingStone Theatre for Youth Development, and Penumbra Theatre Company. For the past five years, Hanna led the Teen Council program at Berkeley Rep School of Theatre, mentoring hundreds of young artists. He has also directed productions for BACT, including the world premieres of Ladybug Girl and Bumblebee Boy, the Musical, and Ivy + Bean, the Musical. In January, Hanna will begin an 18-month Leadership University fellowship at Children's Theatre Company in Minneapolis focusing on artistic leadership and the creation of new work for young audiences.

The fellowship is funded by The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation and administered by Theatre Communications Group.

Kelvyn Mitchell (Brother/Robot/Squirrel) is

excited to be working on his third show with Bay Area Children’s Theatre. He has previously toured Labcoats and Scapegoats: A Science Fair Musicalamity and Rock the Block: A Walk and Roll Musical. He has also been seen in the African American Shakespeare productions of The Tempest and Much Ado About Nothing.

He played Marty in Dreamgirls at Broadway by the Bay; The Constable in The Music Man at Berkeley Playhouse; And The Duke of Clarence in Richard the 3rd at Impact Theatre.

Andrew P. Quick (Bingo) hails from the Raisin Capital of the World. He is delight to be returning to his all time favorite role, Bingo.

RUFF! RUFF! Most recently he could be seen on the BACT stage as a lump of coal in Lemony Snicket's: The Lump of Coal. Other Bay Area productions include: Circus of Smiles(Gravity Defying Juggling Show), Boxcar Theatre(The Speakeasy), The Cutting Ball Theater(Ubu Roi), Portola Valley Theatre Conservatory(A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Persephone), and Shakespeare Santa Cruz(Taming of the Shrew, Henry V). In his spare time he performs nationally and internationally with his award winning physical comedy troupe, Pi, which he co/founded while studying theatre at the University of California Santa Cruz. He considers it a blessing to be sharing the stage with such a compassionate and silly group of actors.

Leah Sanginiti (Kiki/Butterfly Girl) is thrilled to be fulfilling her dream of playing a butterfly with superpowers! When she's not touring, Leah can be found in Portland, Oregon, exploring the city, drinking overpriced coffee and performing original works. Isabel Anne To (Marley) is super excited to be a part of this amazing tour of Ladybug Girl and Bumblebee Boy, her second time performing with Bay Area Children's Theatre!

Previously, she originated the role of Xiao Mao in the world premiere of Where the Mountain Meets the Moon, a musical based on the Newbery Award-winning book and adapted by Min Kahng. Most recently, she played Amanda in Amy Herzog's play 4,000 Miles. Other roles include Zhao in Chinglish, Esther in Meet Me in St. Louis, and Marcy Park in the 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee. When Isabel isn't on stage, she enjoys reading, hiking, cross stitching, coloring, and making coffee beverages at her day job. She would like to thank director Ben Hanna and everybody at Bay Area Children's Theatre for this wonderful opportunity to bring another lovely story to life, and you - the audience - for your support of live theatre!

Frances Hughes (Stage Manager) graduated from SUNY Buffalo State in 2014 with a B.A. in theater. Frances has been stage managing since 2011 with recent credits including Pinkalicious (Vital Theatre Company), Flight School (Vital Theatre Company) and the national tour of Fancy Nancy Splendiforous Christmas. Frances is thrilled to be a part of the BACT team and is looking forward to this new adventure.

Leighland Hooks (Tour TD) is a backstage technician from the Bay Area. He works everything from festivals to private events, concerts to theatre. Although, you may not see him in this production, he hopes that you enjoy the show.
