A WELCOME FROM OUR PRESIDENT Welcome back to MPAC! We are so happy to see you here again. I hope that you and your family are well and healthy.

What makes our performing arts center so special is that it brings us together as a community to share the collective excitement of live theatre. We are thrilled to be able to be that community gathering place again.

The COVID pandemic has truly tested the resolve of our theatre. Despite countless obstacles, we forged ahead and developed new and creative ways to serve our audiences, from drive-in concerts to virtual programming to online Performing Arts School classes to limited-capacity shows, and now, the return of full capacity events.

MPAC has practiced stringent health guidelines since first reopening in October 2020 and we will continue to do everything within our ability to make our venue safe for our patrons, performers, volunteers and staff.

We appreciate your cooperation and understanding in following these guidelines as we reopen safely.

Since 1937 this extraordinary theatre has celebrated good times and risen above dark periods, but only with the help of an incredible community. As a nonprofit theatre, we are profoundly grateful for the generosity of our patrons and supporters. Your contributions have been vital to our survival.

I am confident that the brighter days are returning, and great new memories will be made in the upcoming season.

A WELCOME FROM OUR BOARD CHAIRMAN Thank you for returning to MPAC. We know for many of you it’s been a while, and we’ve missed you.

I’ve been pleased and impressed by how much MPAC has been able to deliver through the course of the pandemic, keeping the arts alive and engaging our patrons when their spirits have needed uplifting the most. I’m grateful to our dedicated members who have stood with us, giving because they believe our mission is more vital than ever.

MPAC is thankful for the support of all of the individuals, foundations, corporations, and government agencies that have helped to sustain us through the pandemic.

Whether it was a large gift or a few dollars added to a ticket purchase, every contributed dollar is appreciated. It means so much to us to know how much you value MPAC. While our situation has certainly improved since the onset of the pandemic in early 2020, COVID remains unpredictable and we continue to face an uncertain future. It will take two to three years for MPAC to fully recover from the pandemic, and that’s provided there are no more downturns. We hope that you will support MPAC as we move ahead with our programs, bring in star-studded concerts, expand our educational offerings and develop diverse community-based arts programs. Pandemic or not, MPAC will be the leader in our arts community now and into the future.

MPAC’S MISSION Mayo Performing Arts Center, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, presents a wide range of programs that entertain, enrich, and educate the diverse population of the region and enhance the economic vitality of Northern New Jersey.

Thirty-six students from throughout Morris County participated in this yearʼs contest.

The winner and runner-up received 24x36 poster-sized prints of their work, as well as gift cards to Michaels.

All of the student works were exhibited in the Art Upstairs Gallery over a two-week period in March, and will soon be posted on mayoarts.org.

Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes In a business where success is defined as getting a second single and longevity measured in nanoseconds, simply surviving for thirty-plus years is a rare accomplishment. But Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes have not only survived, they have flourished: more than thirty albums, several EPs and a box set; thousands of live performances around the globe; a legion of dedicated and enthusiastic fans; dozens of classic songs; a release named by Rolling Stone one of the “top 100 albums of the 70s and 80s.”

Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes emerged from the New Jersey shore scene in 1974, and though they carried over a significant influence (and some key personnel) from Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band, the Jukes evolved as more

of a white R&B horn band in the Memphis Stax Records tradition. Organized by singer John Lyon, guitarist/songwriter Steve Van Zandt (who decamped for the E Street Band in 1975, but continued to produce, manage, and write songs for the Jukes) and Richie Rosenberg, the band is well known for high-energy shows and no-holds-barred songs, including “I Don’t Wanna Go Home,” “Havin’ a Party,” “The Fever,” “Talk to Me,” “Trapped Again,” and “This Time It’s For Real.”

Still tinged with the exuberant rhythm and blues feel that is the Jukes’ trademark, and loaded with the driving sound of the legendary Jukes horn section, Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes continue to expound their signature Jersey Shore sound – all for the sheer joy of it.
