WHAT’S HAPPENING IN THE CLASSROOMS? English & Literature Earlier this year, the Secondary 2 Literature students were given the opportunity to visit the Peranakan Museum where they went on specially curated tours which provided them insight into the Peranakan history and culture. This together with the screening of the play Emily of Emerald Hill, facilitated an enriched insight into the context of their literary set text.
As part of the Applied Learning Program, for Effective Communication, our Lower Secondary English students took part in a myraid of after school activities such as Speech and Drama (Sec 1) as well as Broadcast and Journalism (Sec 2). For the Secondary 2 students, this culminated in learning journeys to several industry leaders in the Media space such as Noontalk Media, Creative for More and Left Profile.

WHAT’S HAPPENING IN THE CLASSROOMS?
Mathematics Amazing Race The Secondary 1 students embarked on an exciting Math Amazing Race, featuring a virtual Escape Room where they unlocked stations based on their answers! This unique experience was designed to immerse students in an interactive adventure that introduced them to Secondary 2 concepts in a fresh and engaging way.
Each station encouraged students to observe, gather, and connect information, making the learning process both fun and impactful. With creative challenges and hands-on tools, students tackled mathematical ideas in a dynamic, game-based environment—stepping outside the bounds of traditional lessons.
Working together at each station, they built essential skills like problem-solving, effective communication, and even map reading. This innovative approach made math accessible, enjoyable, and meaningful for everyone involved!

WHAT’S HAPPENING IN THE CLASSROOMS?
C&T WIP EXHIBITION Students from the Craft & Tech department (Art, Design &Technology, Nutrient & Food Science and Mobile Robotics) came together to exhibit their works done for their secondary 3 milestone. Students had to plan, discuss and make informed choices on the number of works, layout and mode of display in the Artquarium gallery. The Work-In-Progress (WIP) exhibition encapsulates the students final products, draft sketches, mock-ups, documentation of their process and even reflections of their work to celebrate their year of learning in their respective coursework subjects. It was open to the school on the 16th of October and ran till the school’s Open House where the exhibits were open to the public who came to visit.

WHAT’S HAPPENING IN THE CLASSROOMS? Geography All Around Us!
Over the past nine months, our Secondary One students, guided by the Geography team, have nurtured Indian Borage plants as part of a sustainability project that began with creating flower pots from recycled materials.
This initiative, an extension of the Geography syllabus, was designed to make learning more meaningful by connecting classroom knowledge to real-world practices. Through consistent care and dedication, students watched their plants flourish, transforming from delicate seedlings into vibrant, healthy foliage. This handson experience taught them the values of responsibility, patience, and the impact of small, sustainable actions. The flourishing plants now stand as a testament to the students’ growth and commitment to caring for the environment, embodying the essence of both nature and their own personal development.
Secondary 3 MTL Fortnight Camps
On August 14, Secondary 3 CL students participated in the 2024 Bilingual Cultural Translation Camp. They learned essential aspects of Chinese-English translation, including the names of everyday items in both languages and code-switching. The camp also emphasized key translation practices, such as adhering to grammatical rules, considering local culture and avoiding direct translation of proper nouns.
Meanwhile, ML students attended the Malay Cultural Camp, where they delved into the traditional art of dikir barat. Students learned the history and cultural significance of dikir barat, enhancing their appreciation of Malay cultural traditions. The camps broadened the students' cultural and linguistic knowledge. They found the experience valuable and expressed a keen interest in participating in similar activities in future.

WHAT’S HAPPENING IN THE CLASSROOMS?
The PE department launched a weight management program for lower secondary students that emphasised healthy eating habits over weight loss. Students gain basic nutrition knowledge and skills, such as label reading and understanding "everyday" versus "sometimes" foods, to become aware of their eating habits. The program encourages practical application through hands-on activities in local venues, like bubble tea shops and fast food restaurants. Healthy snacks are provided at each session to promote better choices, and students also sample new healthy snacks. Overall, the program successfully teaches healthy eating habits in a fun and engaging way!
S1 Science Fair The Science Department hosted inaugural S1 Science Fair on 18 October.

Themed “Fueling Tomorrow’s Innovators: Explore, Create, Inspire”, the Science Fair is a non-competitive platform jointly organised by the Science departments of the S1 Cluster. The Science Fair showcased Science projects from the S1 Cluster schools, providing a foundational experience for budding STEM innovators which prepares them for larger research challenges in the future. The event also serves as an incubator for future Our GOH Assoc Professor Tan Aik Ling engagement and collaboration in STEM giving a humorous and inspiring speech research. to our budding STEM innovators.

AESTHETICS PROGRAMMES Mayflower Got Talent 2024: A Showcase of Passion and Creativity Mayflower Secondary School's annual event, Mayflower Got Talent, celebrated the artistic brilliance of Mayflowerians with a vibrant array of performances. The event, designed to foster creativity and confidence, featured five stunning acts, captivating both staff and students alike. The program kicked off with a K-pop dance of "S-Class" by Stray Kids performed by Anne Shen of 1F , whose expressive movements left a lasting impression. The audience was then treated to a heartfelt guitar and vocal duet by Tini and Kedric from 3E, performing "Anything" by Adrianne Lenker. Their soulful harmonies resonated through the hall.
A lively band performance of "505" by Arctic Monkeys by Fiona ， Devika and Huishan from 3I, Yixuan from 3E and Denise from 3D, kept the energy high, before the concert concluded with a beautiful piano and vocal rendition of Ed Sheeran’s "Photograph"by Si Jia, Si Xian and Shyanne from 2B, Mayflower Got Talent is more than just a talent show—it is a testament to the school’s commitment to nurturing critical and creative thinking through arts education. As students demonstrate their talents on stage, they also develop confidence, perseverance, and an appreciation for the beauty around them. It’s an event that showcases the power of the arts in shaping spirited, positive individuals.

CCA HIGHLIGHTS Modern Dance/ TKD/ Infocomm/ CE/ Enterprise/ DANCE Challenge ! Our Mayflower Secondary School Modern Dance participated in the Singapore Challenge Cup Dance Competition (SCCDC) and won a GOLD medal. The objectives of the SCCDC are to promote dance culture, and to provide a platform for practice and experience sharing for young dancers and professionals - Challenge to Succeed.
Taekwondo @ NSG Mayflower Taekwondo did the school proud this year at the National School Games by clinching the 'B' Division (Girls)'s 4th placing overall despite stiff competition. In addition, several of its members also achieved team and individual top 4 awards in the Poomsae and Kyorugi categories.

CCA HIGHLIGHTS What our Clubs have been up to... Infocomm Club AFIF MUHAMMAD FADIL, CHIANG HAU YOUNG, ONG ZONG ZHE JAYDEN, GORDON GOH CHUN WEI and KUOH YU LIN from Infocomm Club participated in the Appreciating NSmen Video Competition 2024 organised by SAFRA. Their video was awarded the Best Animnation and Young Video Maker Award! They received a cash prize of $2000. The ceremony was graced by Guest-of-Honour, Senior Minister of State for Defence & President of SAFRA, Mr Zaqy Mohamad
Enterprise Club
In 2024, the Enterprise Club participated in the Young Trail Blazer Competition, sending three groups of students to develop solutions based on a problem statement over the span of three months. The students applied the design thinking framework, which involved surveying their target audience, creating prototypes, and gathering feedback to refine their ideas. We are proud to share that one of our teams, Sugarplum Princess (Vernon Bay, Aden Yip, Ashley Lee & Julian Lee), advanced to the finals with their innovative solution to address stress within the school community. Additionally, one of our groups (Tozawa Miki, Charlene Ng, Tang Yingqi & Hazel Calista) received the prestigious Oaktree Merit Award for their outstanding efforts in product testing and prototyping.

COHORT PROGRAMMES SEC 1 ADVENTURE CAMP
In August this year, our Secondary 1 students stepped out of their comfort zone for a four day three night Outdoor Adventure Camp and Home Team NS Bukit Batok. Encouraged by the lively charismatic trainers from Touch Community Services, the students partook in several challenging activities such as low elements, a hiking trail, outdoor cooking, dragon boating and many more!
The exciting events ended off with the traditional campfire night, where each class performed their unique dance and cheer piece. There was even a surprise performance by the teachers! It was an enriching experience for many of our Secondary 1 Mayflowerians, some of whom were at an overnight camp for the very first time! 10
COHORT PROGRAMMES SEC 2 APPLIED LEARNING MODULES Our Secondary 2 students had a different cohort experience this year - instead of a typical camp, they attended a 3-day Applied Learning Module of their choice where they got hands-on experience in the Food & Beverage, Game Design, Radio Presenting and Social Media industries.
The students started their module by learning the ropes of their respective industries, where they gained valuable insight of what are the basic skills required to enter such industries. This was followed by a learning journey to specialist companies that operate in these industries, where the students got front-row seats to see how these companies operated commercially and some of the behind-thescenes work they do. The students even got to sample some of the up and coming products offered by these companies!
Armed with the knowledge they had gleamed from the past two days, the students completed their modules by working in groups to present a project showcasing what they have learnt. This was done exhibition style and shown to the staff and students of the school.

COHORT PROGRAMMES Sec 3 MOE-OBS Challenge (MOC) Programme Our Secondary 3 students recently embarked on a 5-day, 4-night adventure as part of the MOE-OBS Challenge (MOC) Programme, held from the 19th to the 23rd of August 2024. For many of our students, this was their very first overnight camp, a significant milestone in their school journey. The majority of them experienced the programme at the Punggol and Ubin campuses, while one group had the unique opportunity to explore the East Coast campus. Throughout the camp, our students immersed themselves in a variety of outdoor activities, facing the challenges of nature with enthusiasm and determination, even as they braved the warm weather. The programme offered a rich array of experiences, including land and sea expeditions such as trekking through lush trails, conquering high elements, rafting, kayaking, and even the thrill of sailing. These activities not only tested their physical endurance but also nurtured a spirit of resilience and teamwork. A highlight of the camp was the opportunity for our students to connect with their peers from two other schools—Catholic High and Woodlands Ring Secondary. As they mingled and collaborated, they forged new friendships and expanded their social horizons. Evenings were reserved for moments of introspection, where students reflected on their day’s experiences, journaling their thoughts, highs and lows. This practice of reflection allowed them to deepen their learning and gain valuable insights into their own growth. Indeed, this camp was more than just an escape from the familiar comforts of home; it was an unforgettable journey of self-discovery and resilience, leaving a lasting impact on each of our students. 12
TEACHERS’ DAY CELEBRATIONS [SCHOOL] To teach is to touch a life forever... The morning began with a nutritious breakfast kindly provided by our PSG. With the roles reversed, some student emcees took us through a few games to uplift our spirits. Staff were then treated to a series of delightful performances by students from various CCA groups.

RACIAL HARMONY DAY COMMEMORATION
Singapore: Our Multicultural Mosaic
As part of our Racial Harmony Day commemorations this year, there were many engaging events spread across the weeks leading up to the day.
Starting off with meaningful CCE lessons, our students explored the different intricacies of communities in Singapore and how each one comes together to form the fabric of our nation. More importantly, we were reminded on the need to demonstrate respect and care for others, regardless of differences. During recess and after school hours, students also engaged in the MF Social Space set up by the MT Department at the Art Aquarium. The space was set up with traditional games such as Congkak, Chess, and Carrom, meant to celebrate our Multicultural Mosaic. The events culminated in a meaningful assembly programme titled: Building Inclusive Digital Spaces: Enhancing Harmony in Multicultural Society (Film Festival Edition)

NATIONAL DAY CELEBRATIONS
Together, As One United People
On the 8th of August 2024, Mayflowerians gathered in the hall to celebrate our Nation’s 59th birthday. The festivities began with a solemn ceremony and march in by our uniform groups. This was followed by the singing of the National Anthem and the Recollections as we remembered the difficulties faced by our forefathers.
After the parade, we were privileged to host the F1 in Schools: STEM challenge, where our students gained insight into the behind the scenes workings of one of the highlights of Singapore’s event season: The Grand Prix! Besides booths where students could test their reaction time, we even had a car drive up into our foyer for a showcase. As part of the celebrations, our Secondary 3 students also hosted a carnival - a tie in with their Values in Action projects. There were game booths and interactive displays. Our very own PSG also joined in the fun, setting up henna and face painting stations for students to get a semi-permanent souvenir. 16
INTER-DISCIPLINARY POST-EXAM ACITIVITY Exciting CRIME SCENE INVESTIGATION [CSI] Mystery Activity for Secondary Two Students! Our Secondary Two students recently dove into a thrilling CSI activity designed to sharpen their critical thinking and investigative skills! With a Singaporeinspired mystery on their hands, they took on the roles of detectives to solve a “crime” involving a stolen Labubu toy and uncover the culprit and the murder weapon!
This hands-on activity integrated elements of History, Geography, and Mathematics as students pieced together evidence through blood spatter analysis, footprint tracing, fingerprint matching, and more. From analyzing locations to calculating distances, students applied their knowledge across subjects to deduce the mystery with teamwork and a dash of curiosity. This was a unique and engaging way to bring learning to life!

STUDENT LEADERSHIP SLB 24 HOUR CHALLENGE The Inter-School Future Ready 24-Hour Challenge 2024 (ISFRC) The Inter-School Future Ready 24-Hour Challenge 2024 (ISFRC), was hosted by Mayflower Secondary School. ISFRC offers an opportunity to delve into real-world challenges we face as we progress towards sustainable future. Discussion topics will be from United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, contextualized to our local landscape through Zimmermann’s Self-Regulated Learning model and DesignThinking Model. This will empowers students to practice empathy and devise sustainable solutions. ISFRC was an enriching experience for our student leaders as they deepen their understanding of sustainability issues and learn to examine from diverse perspectives. Through Design-Thinking Model, critical thinking skills will be honed to think and to tackle challenges. It also fosters the development of essential research and presentation skills, confidence, and empathy qualities for navigating future challenges within and beyond the classroom. By coming together, the various student leaders will raise awareness, build skills, forge connections, and make meaningful contributions to the community as future leaders.
EARN YOUR SMILES
The E.A.R.N. Your Smiles initiative is a wellness program designed by student leaders to promote personal well-being among their peers through the pillars of Exercise, Attitude, Rest, and Nutrition (E.A.R.N.). The program’s primary objectives are to raise awareness about the importance of overall wellness—both physical and mental—and to foster responsible decision-making in developing healthy habits.. The program also includes a 14-day wellness challenge among Co-Curricular Activities (CCAs), adding a fun, competitive element. Through the support of CCA Leaders, Peer Support Leaders (PSLs), School Counsellors and CCA teachers, students learn the importance of balancing wellness with their academic commitments, building sustainable habits that promote long-term health and well-being with wellness initiatives or activities implemented within the CCA. 18
OUTREACH Creative Bins Collaboration with Ang Mo Kio Town Council Our Sec 1 Community Ambassadors, along with Sec 2 ART enthusiasts, successfully completed the Creative Bins Collaboration. Through this programme, our students were able to advocate sustainability messages and connect their learning experiences on sustainability in the classroom through art. The photos captured the process and the outcome of the project. The bins were collected by the Town Council on the 17th September to be placed around Ang Mo Kio estates for the public use. HUMANITIES TRIP TO VIETNAM Beyond Borders. Beyond Limits. The Humanities trip to Ho Chi Minh City was a dynamic blend of learning and discovery, offering students the chance to deepen their understanding of history, geography, globalization, and community outreach. Alongside academic enrichment, the trip fostered personal growth and character development, making it an unforgettable experience.
The School Exchange: Pathway Academy Schools Our students participated in a cultural exchange with Vietnamese students, engaging in collaborative activities. This experience helped students appreciate cultural diversity and develop global perspectives aligned with globalization and character building objectives.
History and Geography Come Alive At the War Remnants Museum and Cu Chi Tunnels, students delved into the complexities of the Vietnam War, learning about resilience and the path to peace. Visits to the Central Post Office and NotreDame Cathedral showcased Vietnam’s colonial heritage, enriching their appreciation of urban geography and globalization. A cooking class in Cu Chi’s Agricultural Village tied sustainable practices to hands-on learning, with students harvesting vegetables and preparing meals as a team.

HUMANITIES TRIP TO VIETNAM Visiting Thien Duyen Orphanage was a deeply enriching and eye-opening experience for our students. Home to many victims of Agent Orange, the orphanage is lovingly run by a dedicated caretaker who has devoted her life to supporting those in need. Students faced initial challenges in connecting with the residents, but through games, crafts, and shared smiles, they quickly found ways to bond. As part of their visit, they conducted a needs analysis to understand how they could further support the home with meaningful contributions. This experience not only fostered empathy and resilience but also inspired our students to think critically about impactful ways to give back to the community.
Farm To Table. Students also explored a farm, picking their own vegetables which they cooked later for lunch under the watchful eyes of a chef who also spilled the beans to living a purposeful life!
Exploring the Countryside and Industry A visit to the Mekong Delta introduced students to rural life, from exploring cottage industries like coconut candy-making to sampling tropical fruits and enjoying traditional music.
Through these activities, our students became more informed, compassionate, and future-ready global citizens. The Humanities trip proved that learning truly goes beyond borders!

CULTURAL EXCHANGE TO HONG KONG Members of the Chinese Ensembles, Concert Band and Enterprise Club embarked on a 5-day Cultural Exchange to Hong Kong where they learnt and experienced the arts and culture, the cuisine, the education scene and the sights and sounds of this thriving metropolis that is both similar and yet different from Singapore. The first stop was at the Hong Kong Heritage Museum, where they learnt about the Cantonese culture through opera as well as the rich history of Hong Kong's musical and cinematic greats, many of whom have influenced Singapore's own arts and music scene. Some of them also tried out the immersive interactive and VR exhibits, further enriching their learning experiences.
The tram ride up Victoria Peak was an eye-opener for the group, as this mode of transport at a 27 degree gradient was unlike anything experienced before. This was followed by the much anticipated school exchange with Fukien Secondary School, where the two schools collaborated in joint Assembly programme which included performances by the CCA groups and a presentation and quiz segment introducing Singapore to the Hong Kong students. Our students were pleasantly surprised when the school sang, as the finale, a heartfelt rendition of "I am a small part of the world". After the assembly programme, our students joined their peers from the school in the classroom, where they took turns sharing interesting snippets of both countries, topping it with a simple art-andcraft session. Our students left FSS enriched from their experience, having learnt much from their interaction and aesthetics and cultural sharing with their new-found friends from Hong Kong. They rounded up the trip with a visit to the Avenue of Stars and watched the Symphony of Lights at Victoria Harbour. At the Hong Museum of Arts, they took the opportunity to immerse themselves in the exhibits, including the acclaimed Between Black & White exhibition by artisit Wu Guanzhong (part of the Arts syllabus).

AESTHETICS GROUP TRIP TO HONG KONG At the Dim Sum making workshop, the group learnt the basics of making two varieties of dim sum the traditional way from the Master Chef - by hand! After getting hang of it, both staff and students had a lot of fun expressing their creativity and culinary skills, while learning the rich cultural history behind this much beloved snack that has become synonymous with Hong Kong's Cantonese cuisine. The visit to Tai-O Fishing Village, the Venice of Hong Kong, gave the group a glimpse of life in a modernised village where aspects of technology and tourism coexist with the trappings of rural living. As part of visit, the group also attended a salted egg making workshop, which was a novel experience for many of the younger members of the group, as fresh duck eggs, the key ingredient, has not been available in Singapore since the 1990s. The informative tour of the village also taught the group how the villagers have adapted to the natural environment to make livelihood possible on the island, and how changing times have led to the decline of the fishing industry in the village. The students were given a crash course on bargaining 'skills by their extremely experienced tour guide, and were eager to put them to good use at the Ladies Market in the evening, an iconic fashion street market.
The highlight of the trip was the visit to Disneyland, where the group attended the Disney Environmental Expedition and Disney's Hospitality in Practice workshops. Here, the group got an exclusive behindthe-scenes look at how Disneyland incorporates sustainability and ecotechnology into its hospitality and theme park operations.
The final stop for the group was a community tour hosted by a local resident, who graciously brought the group around to visit the residential district she resided in. Here, the group learnt about the types of housing available to Hong Kongers, how they made use of space efficiently and got a glimpse of how the residents did their marketing in the morning. When it was finally time to say good-bye, it was with great sadness as both students and staff had learnt so much during their stay in Hong Kong. 23
CCA TRIP TO PATTAYA, THAILAND Led by Mr. Nigel, Mr. Raj, Madam Lai, Ms. Su, and Mr. Jonathan, a group of 26 students from NPCC, NCC, Scouts, LNO, Drama, and Infocomm embarked on a meaningful cultural exchange trip to Pattaya, Thailand. The highlight of the exchange was a collaborative session with the scouts from Pattaya City School 3. This experience offered our students a deep understanding of the cultural differences and practices between Thailand and Singapore.
During the outdoor cooking activity, the Thai scouts impressed everyone with their resourcefulness and expertise in basic survival skills, sparking admiration and inspiring our students to reflect on their own strengths and adaptability. The exchange fostered mutual respect and appreciation between the two groups, reinforcing the importance of learning from diverse perspectives. A key part of the trip was the visit to the Pattaya Orphanage, where our students spent two days bringing joy to the children. They took on the responsibility of caring for the toddlers, including feeding and entertaining them, and accompanied the children on an excursion to the Siracha Tiger Zoo. These moments were eyeopening, as our students came to appreciate the challenges and sacrifices involved in raising children. Many shared during reflection sessions how these experiences deepened their gratitude for their own families and the opportunities they enjoy in Singapore.
The trip concluded with a visit to the Anti-Human Trafficking and Child Abuse Center, a deeply impactful experience for the group. Our students bonded with the children through games and thoughtful conversations. They sponsored a breakfast for the children and presented them with essential supplies from a local supermarket. The visit not only highlighted the importance of giving back but also instilled a sense of social responsibility and empathy in our students.
Through these diverse activities, our students gained invaluable life lessons, learning to appreciate their own privileges, embrace diversity, and contribute meaningfully to the lives of others. This trip was more than just an exchange; it was a transformative journey of growth and understanding. 24
ECO-SUSTAINABILITY ADVENTURE TRIP TO BINTAN, INDONESIA Our students embarked on a transformative 3-day, 2-night eco-sustainability trip to Bintan. It was an unforgettable journey that broadened their understanding of environmental conservation, immersed them in local culture, and encouraged sustainable living practices. During the trip, students took a guided tour of the mangroves, discovering their critical role in coastal ecosystems and carbon sequestration. They also enjoyed a captivating local cultural performance and participated in an eco-craft workshop, where they created crafts from recycled materials, highlighting the importance of upcycling. A visit to a local school became a highlight, as our students connected with their peers through sports and arts, fostering friendships and mutual understanding across cultures. This enriching experience has left a lasting impact, inspiring our students to embrace sustainability, forge deeper connections with nature, and develop skills to tackle global environmental challenges.

ENDING SCHOOL WITH A BANG AND MEMORIES

The Secondary 4 and 5 students graduated on the 28th of September with a bang! From opening their time capsules, to walking down memory lane with their peers over a meal, to sharing tears over videos and anecdotes. Grad Night! With the theme being “Colours of Possibilities”, students came donned in beautiful and vibrant outfits. Students were awarded various titles such as “Mr Resilient”, “Mr Classy” and “Mr Zest for Life”. They had a wonderful time catching up with their peers and letting their hair down over a good meal and fun activities.
