Aesthetic Production

On 28 April, the school was treated to a musical extravaganza - our school’s biennial Aesthetic Production!

Signal Reconnect is a powerful and thought-provoking production that explores the challenges of human connection in an increasingly digital world

The story follows a teenager who turns to an AI companion for comfort, gradually drifting away from meaningful relationships with family and friends Through a blend of drama, music, dance, and multimedia elements, the production examines themes of loneliness, identity, and belonging. As tensions rise and emotions unfold, the protagonist discovers the importance of empathy, presence, and genuine connection.

In conjunction with Mayflower Secondary School’s 45th Anniversary, the production reflects the values of a Curious Mind, Zest for Life, and Generous Spirit, inspiring audiences to reconnect with those around them

Lu Binshu, a Drama Club student from 3A, contributed the following reflection:

“This year the biennial production was about a girl named Alexis, who turned to AI after she found that her father and friends couldn’t understand her. Through AI’s help, she successfully reconnected with herself, her family and friends.

As a member of the Drama Club, I was very lucky to be involved in the production as a member of the backstage crew The preparation of the production had started since October 2025. From choosing the cast and rehearsing the scenes repeatedly, it truly took a lot of effort to bring Alexis’ journey of reconnecting with her family and friends to life

On the day of the actual performance, everyone was so nervous about how the performance was going to turn out. At the same time, we were also excited to put up a wonderful and meaningful show

After the show ended, tension turned into cheers, laughter, and tears of relief and happiness. It was on the bus ride back to school that I forgot all about the complaints and tiredness. Looking at my peers, whom I now felt much closer to, I realised that this production was not just about Alexis reconnecting with her father and friends, but also about building a much stronger bond among the students, teachers, parents, and the school community ”

June Staff Retreat: Envisioning the Future of Learning

What kind of learners will thrive in an increasingly complex and rapidly changing world? This was the central question that guided Mayflower Secondary School's 2026 Staff Retreat

The day began with Learning Journeys to four post-secondary institutions Eunoia Junior College (EJC), Temasek Polytechnic (TP), ITE College Central and Singapore Management University (SMU) While each institution had its own distinct culture and learning environment, staff observed many common expectations of students Across the different campuses, learners were expected to be self-directed, collaborative, adaptable, digitally discerning and able to take ownership of their learning

CURIOUS MIND

June Staff Retreat: Afternoon Session

Building on these observations, teachers reflected on the kind of future-ready learners Mayflower hopes to nurture. Through collaborative discussions, they connected these learner qualities to the school's ongoing Future of Learning (FoL) journey, recognising how E21CC, EdTech and learning environments work together to develop the competencies students will need for the future.

CURIOUS MIND

June Staff Retreat: Afternoon Session

The afternoon then shifted the focus from the learner to the learning experience. Teachers explored the kinds of pedagogies and classroom experiences needed to intentionally cultivate these learner dispositions before considering a final question: What kind of learning space would best support this vision?

Drawing on the day's discussions, staff collaboratively envisioned a Classroom of the Future one designed not around furniture or technology, but around the learning it would enable. Through critique, discussion and refinement, teachers identified features that would better support collaboration, inquiry, visible thinking, student agency and flexible learning

The retreat concluded with a shared understanding that learning spaces are most powerful when they intentionally enable the pedagogy, behaviours and learning culture needed to nurture future-ready Mayflowerians The insights generated during the retreat will continue to inform the school's Learning Spaces journey as Mayflower creates environments that bring the MF Promise to life.

Secondary 3 students explored the concept of sense of place by examining how people connect with spaces through their experiences, memories and interactions Through observations around the school, they gained a deeper appreciation of how places acquire meaning and shape our identities.

Meanwhile, Secondary 1 students investigated natural vegetation through an outdoor lesson in the school garden By observing leaves, roots and plant structures, they learned how plants adapt to their environments and developed a greater appreciation for the diversity of rainforest vegetation

These outdoor learning experiences brought Geography to life, helping students make meaningful connections between classroom concepts and the world around them.

CURIOUS MIND

HI Project - Living Memories

History came alive for our Secondary 2 students through their Historical Investigation (HI) project, Living Memories: Singapore's Journey to Internal Self-Government.

As part of their study of Singapore's road to independence, students investigated key events of the 1950s, including major riots and the landmark 1955 and 1959 elections. Taking on the role of young historians, they searched digital archives such as NewspaperSG and the National Archives of Singapore, examined historical sources and pieced together evidence to understand how these events shaped Singapore's future.

Working in teams, students transformed their findings into digital exhibitions that showcased their perspectives on Singapore's journey towards self-government. They also designed handcrafted artefacts that reflected lessons modern Singapore can learn from the challenges and conflicts of the past.

Through this experience, students gained a deeper appreciation of Singapore's history while developing research, collaboration and critical thinking skills. More importantly, they discovered that understanding the past helps us better appreciate the nation we have today and the role each of us plays in shaping its future

Student Leader Summit

Building Connections, Strengthening Leadership

During the March holidays, Mayflower Secondary School brought together our Secondary 3 student leaders for the annual Student Leaders Summit a meaningful platform for leaders from different student groups to connect, collaborate, and grow together The summit involved Student Councillors, Peer Support Leaders (PSLs), CCA Leaders, and Secondary 3 Class Ambassadors who serve as peer supporters

The summit began with interactive bonding activities designed to strengthen relationships among the student leaders. As these leaders often work closely together to support the school community, it was important for them to build trust and learn more about one another. Through a lively bingo game, students had the opportunity to interact with peers from different leadership groups, discover shared experiences, and identify peers whom they could turn to for support in the future. The activity fostered a greater sense of unity and camaraderie among the leaders

Following the bonding session, the student leaders were grouped according to their leadership roles for specialised learning experiences

The Peer Support Leaders (PSLs) and Class Ambassadors involved in peer support attended a Psychological First Aid training workshop conducted by an external vendor During the session, students learnt essential skills and knowledge to better support their peers emotionally and mentally The workshop equipped them with strategies to listen empathetically, recognise signs of distress, and provide appropriate support while understanding the importance of seeking help from trusted adults when necessary The training empowered the student leaders to carry out their peer support roles with greater confidence and care

Meanwhile, the Student Councillors and CCA Leaders discussed ways to improve the school environment and student experience Using feedback gathered by the Executive Committee (EXCO) on areas such as cleanliness, grooming, and punctuality, they explored practical solutions to promote positive change within the school community

The aim of the Investiture is to celebrate the work done by the outgoing batch of student leaders and to welcome the incoming batch of student leaders.

Prior to the start of the External Investiture, our student leaders were given the opportunity to connect with student leaders from different schools. The External Investiture ended off with parents pinning the leadership badge to the incoming leaders.

Student Leaders' Dialogue

MF Student Leaders’ Dialogue 2026: Student Voice in Action

On 26 June 2026, Mayflower Secondary School held the MF Student Leaders’ Dialogue 2026, bringing together our Student Leaders, School Leaders and HODs for a purposeful exchange on issues that matter to Mayflowerians.

Drawing on feedback gathered from their peers, our Student Leaders raised questions, shared concerns and offered constructive suggestions across key areas of school life. They represented the student body with confidence, maturity and a clear sense of purpose.

The panel responded with openness and professional insight, addressing concerns, considering students’ suggestions and explaining the thinking behind school policies, programmes and decisions Through the exchange, our leaders gained a deeper appreciation of the considerations involved in school-level decision-making.

Following the session, the Student Leadership Excos will consolidate key insights and share appropriate takeaways with the wider student body. In doing so, they will help their peers better understand the reasons behind school decisions and how student voice can contribute constructively to school improvement

The dialogue reflects Mayflower’s belief that student leadership is rooted in service, courage and growth. Through this platform, our leaders listened, represented, questioned and acted for the good of the Mayflowerian community. Their actions strengthened a caring and supportive culture where Mayflowerians uplift one another.
