WINTER 2020-21

THE MUSTANG ROUNDUP CONNECTING GRANDPARENTS AND SPECIAL FRIENDS WITH MAYFIELD JUNIOR SCHOOL

A Note from Head of School, Joe Sciuto December is here and Advent has arrived. A lovely, virtual Advent Prayer service led by our fifth graders on the morning of November 30th kicked off the season. Campus has been decorated for the holidays and the spirit of the season is truly upon us. As a Holy Child school, anticipating the celebration of Christmas and the birth of Jesus is a special time for our community. We will continue to celebrate Advent and the coming Christmas season through a number of remote and drive through events, including long-time traditions like the Kindergarten Nativity Play and the Mother Mary Christmas Luncheon, which will be joined by exciting new traditions. Head of School, Joe Sciuto

Welcome! Grandparents and special friends play a vital role in our community, as loving supporters of our students and their education. We hope you enjoy reading about what's new at Mayfield Junior School and the many ways you can stay involved!

The health and safety of our school community are of utmost importance. Out of an abundance of caution in response to the surging COVID-19 case count in Pasadena and L.A. County, we announced earlier this week that as of Tuesday, December 8, our campus will be closed to all students. Kindergarten students will join First through Eighth-Grade students in our Forward Remote program.

Thanks to our Ever Forward planning teams, we are prepared for this scenario and can quickly adjust the delivery of our academic program. Mayfield Junior School is committed to doing all that we can to keep our school and surrounding community as safe and healthy as possible. We must exercise additional caution as we near Christmas Break as positive COVID-19 case counts continue to climb. Our decisions today, and moving forward at MJS will be guided by the health and safety of our students, faculty, staff, and families as well as through the guidelines and frameworks provided by local, county, and state authorities. Most importantly, we are guided by our mission which focuses on the trust and reverence for the dignity of every person. I wish all of you a blessed remainder of Advent, a Merry and Joyous Christmas, and a Happy New Year. I pray for a safe holiday season for all members of our community and look forward to the day when we can once again gather and celebrate together in person.

GRANDPARENTS & SPECIAL FRIENDS DAY 2021

Togetherness in Faith, Heart & Spirit Mark your calendar for Grandparents & Special Friends Day on February 5th For nearly 40 years, multiple generations of Mayfield families have gathered together to celebrate Grandparents and Special Friends Day. While the format of this year’s virtual event is new and different, the spirit of the tradition remains the same – an opportunity to connect with family and honor the grandparents and special friends we love.

Grandparents and Special Friends Day will take place virtually on Friday, February 5, 2021, and will include a livestream Mass at 9:00am on www.mayfieldjs.org/live as well as a variety of activities and work created by each grade level for you to explore on www.mayfieldjs.org/grandparents. The theme of this year’s event, “Togetherness in Faith, Heart & Spirit” reminds us that, although we may be separated by distance and circumstance, there are still so many ways to feel close to those we love. We hope you will join us in celebrating this unique Grandparents and Special Friends Day and take the opportunity to learn a bit more about daily life of our school during this exceptional year.
