On behalf of the Board of Trustees, we are excited to announce the launch of a bold and ambitious community plan to build a better Mayfield Junior School. LEARNING elevated: The Campaign for the Whole Child is designed to advance our unique educational mission through enhancing and elevating teaching and learning on our campus.

In 2020, at the conclusion of more than three years of strategic planning, the Board of Trustees engaged the firm Berliner Architects to study and envision a 10-year Campus Master Plan for Mayfield Junior School. After a series of community meetings and intensive user group outreach, the study was completed and its resulting major projects have been organized into two phases.

Our community’s campaign for the Whole Child is focused on engaging and inspiring the philanthropic investment needed to bring this plan to life. It celebrates and supports our singular mission and enduring faith-based values—chief among them to nurture the mind, body and spirit of every student and family in our community.

Together, through six major capital projects completed in two phases, we will create a state-of-the-art 21st Century school program and campus to meet the needs of today’s students, as well as the generations to come.

As school leaders, we know we are not only stewards of this great school—we are responsible for ensuring Mayfield Junior School thrives into the next century. In fact, we are all part of a long-standing, caring school community, and the beneficiaries of the work done before us by parents, alumni, friends and the Sisters of the Holy Child Jesus.

The Center for Teaching and Learning & Arts and Media Annex $15 – $18 MILLION PROJECT INVESTMENT

IMAGINE. EXPLORE. CREATE. THRIVE. The Center for Teaching and Learning and The Arts and Media Annex will provide Mayfield Junior School with two new state-of-the-art teaching and learning resources it needs to prepare students to thrive. The Center for Teaching and Learning includes technology-rich classrooms, open-learning commons, and Middle and Lower School Libraries over two levels. The Arts and Media Annex will be housed under the outdoor basketball court and provide new spaces for choral and instrumental music, middle school design lab and our media lab.

THE CENTER FOR TEACHING AND LEARNING A New Building/Two Levels The Center will span 23,000 square feet over two-levels, doubling the innovative teaching and learning space currently offered by the Pike Center and Hodgins Library.

A Food Service Hub The New Center will provide an attractive food service hub for students and the entire community in the heart of the campus.

Two School Libraries The new Middle School Library will span nearly 2,300 square feet and include an open concept Living Room, Quiet Study Spaces, Workroom and space for digital resources and our extensive collection of books for our students to explore.

The new Lower School Library will span nearly 2,700 square feet and include a new Reading Cave and right-sized furniture for elementary students.

Multiple Student Study Spaces The Center will offer new and expanded open spaces for independent and informal reading, research, and study.

Multiple Opening Learning Spaces The Center will add flexible and open, formal and informal learning spaces for students and teachers to discover and explore.

Multiple Lower and Middle School Science Laboratories In the quest to ask and answer the most engaging questions in science, The Center will provide a home for a new Lower School Science Lab and three new Middle School Science Labs.

A Space for Extended Care Program New, attractive and expanded space for our important Extended Care Program will be part of the project.

A Space for Student Services Our plans also elevate the importance of our Student Support Services including counseling and academic support—improving their prominence and providing a central location for ease of access for students, teachers and families.

ARTS AND MEDIA ANNEX The new 5,357 square foot Arts & Media Annex will be housed under the outdoor basketball court and provide new classroom spaces for choral and instrumental music, the middle school design lab as well as our media lab.

Choral and Instrumental Music This new classroom space for choral and instrumental music will provide practice and performance spaces for individual work as well as small and large ensembles.

Middle School Design Lab With two new design labs available, our STEAM and robotics programs will expand, serving class-based and independent student projects.

Media Lab A technology-rich lab space will support computer coding, gaming, audio/video production and broadcast capabilities.

A New Mustangs Playing Field and New Parking Complex $10 – $12 MILLION PROJECT INVESTMENT

Improved Outdoor Recreation Space In addition to the playing field, our plans include a new sports court and larger and shaded playground. The expansion of our outdoor recreation space will support both organized and spontaneous opportunities for students to play and exercise outdoors during and after school.

Mayfield Mustangs Playing Field A new environmentally friendly, premium and attractive artificial 35,000+ square foot turf field will dramatically improve the facilities for our physical education program, elevate sports training, and increase recreational student offerings.

Expanded Parking Complex The plan allows for subterranean parking with a total of 120+ spaces, including the addition of new charging stations.

An expanded South Garage will assist with parking for after school and weekend events and allow us to plan for the future development of the North Parking Lot for student use and green space.

A New Morning Prayer and Community Gathering Space $1 – $2 MILLION PROJECT INVESTMENT A New Morning Prayer and Community Gathering Space The tradition of Morning Prayer illustrates the strength of our faith-based community.

The daily gathering open to all is unique and profound. Morning Prayer encourages connection across all grade levels and provides opportunity to build upon public

speaking skills. To honor and celebrate this beloved Mayfield tradition, we will build a larger and well-equipped, all-community space adjacent to The Center for Teaching and Learning.

We came to MJS because we were always impressed with the students we knew who stayed through 8th grade. Eighth grade is a magical year where the kids begin to learn about autonomy, leadership, empathy, as well as their own stress management as they embark on the high school application process. You really get to see the Whole Child experience manifested in the 8th grade. As 8th graders our twins have participated in roles of leadership through many ways; they have loved being heads of families, ambassadors of MJS while touring prospective families on campus, and campus interns working in the PE department with the kindergarten students. We believe they will lean on their experience as leaders in 8th grade for the rest of their lives.

The campus master plan ensures that our school will live on for at least another 100 years. These campus enhancements proactively address our future needs and affirms the community’s desire to improve all aspects of our students’ experience.

Ways of Giving MAKE A MULTI-YEAR PLEDGE Many donors may wish to make a leadership campaign pledge now and pay over several years.

MAKE A GIFT OF SECURITIES OR STOCK Donors may realize substantial tax savings by transferring appreciated stock to the school prior to its sale. Capital gains on the amount of the appreciation are avoided and the donor receives a tax deduction for the full market value.

MAKE A GIFT OF REAL ESTATE OR PROPERTY Real estate and property that has realized significant appreciation can also provide significant tax consequences for a donor. Similar to the situation with securities, if the ownership of the property is transferred to Mayfield Junior School prior to the sale, the donor will likely avoid capital gains tax associated with that appreciation.

Some donors also find it attractive to consider a transfer of full or partial business interests or partnerships.

MAKE A BEQUEST OR TESTAMENTARY TRUST Gifts made through your will can be made to Mayfield Junior School either through a new document or a codicil to an existing will. You may specify a dollar amount, a piece of personal property, or a percentage of your total estate. Gifts through bequest may also help reduce federal estate tax liability. Although bequests cannot be utilized to fund a capital project, they can be used to establish a building or program endowment fund.

CHARITABLE TRUSTS AND LIFE-INCOME PLANS Trust agreements are individually written to accommodate the donor’s wishes. The Advancement Office at Mayfield Junior School can help you make a decision regarding specialized financial plans that you can share with your attorney and financial advisors.
