Our Mission Mayfield Junior School, a Catholic independent school founded and sponsored by the Society of the Holy Child Jesus, implements the philosophy of the Holy Child Schools which is based on trust and reverence for the dignity of every person. We are committed to the religious and educational development of each child and to maintaining a sense of community and family spirit that welcomes people of diverse backgrounds. At Mayfield each child is challenged to reach his or her potential. We encourage our students to respond to the needs of our time with compassion, integrity and confidence in God and in their own gifts.
Our Educational Vision Guided by our Holy Child heritage, we provide a distinctive educational experience that balances tradition and innovation in an intellectually challenging and creative environment. Students discover their best selves as they question, collaborate, and connect in a joyful community.
A Message from Joe Sciuto, Head of School Dear Mayfield Community, Thank you for welcoming me in my first year as Head of School. When my time at Mayfield Junior School began in July of 2019, I could not have imagined a global pandemic while completing the school year in a distance learning model. I am incredibly proud of the students, faculty & staff, and our families for their commitment to the School and their resiliency during these uncharted and uncertain times. I knew I loved MJS back in July, but this challenge has only solidified my admiration for everyone! The donors we celebrate both in the pages of this report and on the Mayfield Report website represent the incredible community support of our special school. It is through this support that we are able to provide a robust and meaningful Holy Child education, regardless of our learning model, and keep the Holy Child mission alive and thriving. Your dollars help to provide important resources for the operations of the school, and this was even more critical this spring as we were faced with new challenges and opportunities each day. Your support helped provide the resources, technology, and professional development for our faculty to create innovative and dynamic lessons for our students and finish the school year strong. To our 325 families who are members of our Cornelia Connelly Society, thank you! You have all contributed to the Mayfield Annual Fund for at least five consecutive years. Wow! Your commitment is inspiring and serves as an example to all who are just beginning their journey of support for MJS. Philanthropy strengthens Mayfield. Thank you for your commitment to our school and ensuring we can continue our important work. Now, more than ever, your gifts are crucial, and I look forward to your continued support in the years to come. Best Regards,
Joe Sciuto Head of School

Philanthropy Supports Our Faculty and Staff The incredible support of the MJS community directly impacts our teachers. From classroom supplies to professional development opportunities, the generous contributions of our donors ensure our teachers have the resources and tools they need to deliver a vibrant and dynamic Holy Child education.
Annual giving provides our faculty and staff with professional development opportunities. All faculty and staff received Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) training in August 2019 and January 2020 with Dr. Elizabeth Denevi. These trainings were an important first step to increasing awareness within our school community and implementing the tools and strategic processes necessary for the growth and development of all learners at our school.
Your support helped our teachers pivot quickly and confidently at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. “The community support was invaluable as we moved into very uncharted waters! The school was able to supply anything we needed in order to teach our students. Having apps available to quickly pivot to online learning was huge—SeeSaw, Zoom, and Loom were all extremely important for us to teach. Tripods, ring lights, printers, hotspots, and overall tech support… no one said no to us! Technology was so essential and anyone that helped support the school is so appreciated!” -Beth Dorr

“As I watch my daughters grow and hit milestones in their lives, I look back at the experiences that contributed to my growth. MJS was an important part of shaping who I am today. I value the friends I made there and who continue to touch my life today. With gratitude, I choose to donate to MJS so they can continue to touch future generations in this ever changing world.” -Patricia Riordan Torrey ’74
“As a nervous 5th grader entering Mayfield, I arrived at my homeroom and met my new teacher, Mrs. McCracken, who would become a true blessing in my life. The Mayfield family cultivated a community where I could take risks, fail, and ultimately thrive; but the primary mission was to instill the Christian values that guide us. While I now live 3,000 miles from Euclid Avenue, Mayfield and the amazing class of ’83 will always be with me. I encourage my fellow alumni to reflect on all that Mayfield provided as they consider their charitable giving.” -John Beauclair ’83
