Zur Herstellung von GLYCOLON® werden die beiden Materialbestandteile Polyglykolsäure und ε-Caprolacton in einem bestimmten Verhältnis copolimerisiert. Der Abbau des polymeren Fadenmaterials im Gewebe erfolgt durch Wasseraufnahme in Umkehrung der

Synthese. Nach Implantation nimmt die Reißkraft von GLYCOLON® nach 7 Tagen auf 30% ab. Gewebereaktionen werden zum einen durch die dabei entstehenden unbedenklichen Zwischenprodukte, zum anderen durch die monofile und glatte Oberflächenstruktur des Fadens minimiert. GLYCOLON® besitzt durch die glatten und monofilen Oberflächenstrukturen des Polymers ausgezeichnete Eigenschaften bezüglich des Handlings und der Gleitfähigkeit. Gewebetraumatisierungen durch den Fadedurchzug sind bei GLYCOLON® nicht relevant und die monofile Struktur verhindert eine
