In the case of a two-way tie, where two schools in the same bracket have identical win-loss standing for 1st place, the “winner-over-the-other” rule will be applied.
In the case of a three-way tie, where three schools in the same bracket have identical win-loss standings for 1st place, it will be determined as such:
1. “Winner-over-the-other” will be applied first. If team A has beaten teams B and C, then team A will be the top seed.
2. If the above rule does not sufficiently determine the rightful top seed (i.e. Team A beats team B; team B beats team C; and team C beats team A), then the quotient system will be applied.
a. The quotient system is based on a formula of:
• Cumulative Total Points Scored by a Team DIVIDED BY Cumulative Total Points Scored Against a Team.
3. In the unlikely event that the quotient values are still tied, a 2-minute tie-breaker game will be held:
a. 5-on-5, full court game, open substitutions
b. No modifications to basketball rules
Questions or protests regarding the quotient system should be coursed through the official school representatives and relayed to the UAAP-NCAA Friendship Games Committee no later than Thursday, Aug. 8, 2024.
The above ruling has been agreed upon by The Committee during the meeting held on Aug. 3, 2024.
